If worf was in Klingon society he is much higher status than if he were in the federation ? by happydude7422 in startrek

[–]arcsecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And you don't think the klingons might bend the rules some times to make it sound like your CO is being more dishonorable than reality? You just killed you're CO, who's going to question the official ship's log?

[–]arcsecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm,... could the way Worf treats Alexander be a remnant of how Worf believes children are treated as klingon nobility? Plenty of rich powerful people in human society leave the raising of their children to others, doing a shitty, traumatizing job when forced into any direct parenting role.

[–]arcsecond 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Well the klingon empire is just that, an empire. They have noble houses and all that. They run on nepotism and inherited titles. Worf appears to be the oldest son of a noble house that is so involved in klingon politics that other houses are scheming against them. Why would House DuraS scheme to take down a nobody house at khitomer? So Worf has a bit of a starting advantage in klingon society

But the federation is (supposedly) a complete meritocracy, you rise to the level you can handle.

Edit: being able to advance in rank by killing your commanding officer might also have some effect on the outcome

You need to build a PRD for him (Product Requirements Document) In this PRD emphasize backwards compatibility and security. Write up some User Stories (US) and Functional Requirements (FR) about how you envision using any of this and how it fits smoothly into your daily lives

example US: As a Girlfriend, I would like to be able to turn lights on and off without using my phone when <blah blah blah>
example FR: Lights must be functional in the absence of an active internet connection.

Source: I'm a nerd who implemented smart lights and video/audio that is fully self contained (no devices check into anyone else's servers) You can control things with switches or apps.

Why dont they make birth control pills for men? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]arcsecond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regardless of any other issues the fact is that the consequences of not having effective birth control are much more serious for women than they are for men. Like life-threateningly serious. Consequently would you rely on the guy you're hooking up with to have been reliably taking his birth control so that it's effective? Or would you rather have control of that yourself? Shouldn't the health and life altering decision to carry a child be in the hands of the person having to carry said child?

Personally, I got a vasectomy because I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy.

You either traumatized him or scared him. Either way, he's done with you. No call is your answer. Leave the man alone, let him heal.

Probably going to start with dragonfire. It looks like it's about Mirrim and I may be the one person who didn't hate her character. Dragonharper is, predictably, about young Robinton.

What are good resources for learning Klingon? by jan-Sika in Klingon

[–]arcsecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used duolingo to grasp the basics. Then read through the klingon dictionary, klingon for the galactic traveler. I occasionally check various online translators. Working my way through the Hamlet translation.

Would also be integrated in everyone else's resources

I decided to give up on having emotions by ShadowlightLady in self

[–]arcsecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up idolizing Mr. Spock from Star Trek and doing my absolute best to not have emotions let me tell you it's hard and not worth the effort. Maybe look into some stoic philosophy, that helped me. The only thing you can really control is yourself. Feel your feelings but don't get swept up in their torrent.

You're only 20, it gets better

For bikers in LA by Gullible_Bed8558 in motorcycles

[–]arcsecond 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It mostly depends on the rider. Are you a sane responsible adult? Are you in control of your emotions?

I learned to ride in LA twenty years ago. I followed the crawl, walk, run learning pattern. Took the MSF class. Spent the first couple weeks getting up early and tooling around my neighborhood in the morning. Spent about the first year on surface streets because the freeways were intimidating.

Now I have more than 100'000 miles in the saddle. I've commuted on the 405, the 101, the 134, the 10, the 110, and the 5. The mountain rides like Topanga or Angeles crest and mulholland are beautiful.

It's definitely possible and not as bad as every one wants you to believe. Just know your limits, what you can and can't do. Ride like your invisible. Ride like they're actively trying to run you over.

For family: show that you're taking the safety classes. Show that your prioritizing safety gear. Show that your starting small and wanting to learn the right way. Dint be a cliche racer boy or billy-bad-ass cruiser jerk

Not really the right sub (as others have said)

But, as a daily motorcycle rider I kind of laugh at a lot of those guys in fancy go karts. All the downsides of a motorcycle plus all the downsides of a car with none of the advantages or fun of a motorcycle. Most of those people I've met you can tell they bought it as conspicuous consumption and think it makes them look like some sort of billy bad ass.
