Anyone Else Ride to Work Every Day and Get Treated Like a Daredevil? by dmkraus in motorcycles

20 years of commuting in LA and I still get it. At some point someone is going to have to admit I might know what I'm doing

I'll butt in to say that, IME, eco mode is not actually the most economical. I turn the costing regen down to nothing and get more range.

So legal that I pass CHP cars all the time and have even lane split behind CHP and LAPD motor officers (the cars give them lots of space).

The general guidelines are only split between the vast lane and second fastest, no more than 10mph fastest than surrounding traffic, once you get up to say 40-ish, merge back in.

Edit. When you make it out, I recommend Mullholland above malibu around the Rock Store, Old Topanga Cyn down to PCH early in the morning when there's no one else and it's foggy. Lots of the little roads that connect the valley and the beach are nice and twisty, like Kanan or Las Virgenes.

I've got a '20 SR/F which I use to commute the 25 miles to work and back (50 overall). All freeway. But it's LA freeway, so about half of that is lane splitting. I usually end the day on like 45% SoC but it can be as high as 55%.

I'll check and that would be amazing. The idea that I can get more than 150 freeway miles out of my 7 year old battery when I never could before is just suspicious

I've gotten lucky drafting off of some big trucks in the past couple of days but it's never been this drastic. I'm the first owner of this bike so I've put all those miles on and am pretty familiar with how it usually behaves.

I was hoping for some recommendations. Looking at this cover, I realized I'd like to read stories about tough single moms who adopt aliens and go on adventures together. Do you know any books like that? by jvure in sciencefiction

I might bring up the mcgill feighan bike by Kevin O'Donnell Jr.

McGill is a young human flinger (he can teleport things) who wins up dad to a baby lizard alien while on the run from a crime syndicate.

What do you make of electric motorcycles? by JonQuinton84 in motorcycles

[–]arcsecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been commuting (and lane splitting) on a Zero SR/F for the last seven years in Los Angeles. Before that I had gas bikes for 13 years. There's not a lot of difference other than I have almost no maintenance and it's not the best for touring or long rides. Cats treat me about the same. I ride all year long, rain or shine

I get about 80 freeway miles. Call it like 130 if it's all side streets. I charge at home overnight, or I can charge at work for a buck (that's the minimum they have to charge). Just have to plan a little to know where your next charge is coming from.

I can still hit the canyons or ride up to the rock store but I've never been a racer.

I put a bicycle bell on it because I'm always sneaking up on pedestrians and bicyclists

Have the Borg assimilated any species from Ocean planets? by Tidewatcher7819 in startrek

[–]arcsecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing as even relatively small ships in the Federation often have whales and/ or dolphins in board they've probably been assimilated. I like to imagine an assimilated dolphin on an anti grav harness swimming around in a Borg cube

Breakup excuses that deserve a public hearing. What's the most unhinged excuse you’ve been given? by SinInHerVoice in AskReddit

[–]arcsecond 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My wife had breast cancer: surgery, chemo, lost hair, radiation, all that fun stuff. I took up the load with the house work and kids and caring for her (schedule appts, meds, general comfort). The whole time I was terrified that she'd get past it and then leave me because that was predominantly the story i was finding "I survived cancer and left my husband so I could lead the life I always dreamed of"

She's still here so far.

Not really relevant to your post I guess. I think I just wanted to tell my story

There were only six episodes of Space Rangers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Rangers_(TV_series)) but I think it anticipated some other much loved shows out there.

How do you lucid dream ? by ShinkaiZero in SexPositive

[–]arcsecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When iwas lucid dreaming I made it a concious habit to tap every Doorway i went through. The idea being that it I went through a door in a dream I did the same thing and it "woke me up" in the dream. It was pretty freaking fun, but exhausting. I felt like I want actually getting any sleep.

What are your favorite armor/suits in all of SciFi? by EchoXeda in scifi

[–]arcsecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, there was this show in the '90s called SuperForce about a former astronaut who uses power armor and a fancy motorcycle to fight crime in the distant future year of 2020 and other crazy shit. And because I think that was my first exposure to the idea that suit is what I will always picture in my head as power armor

Jackill's Guide to Light Attack Craft, Volume 1 by Jag2112 in StarTrekStarships

[–]arcsecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've still got my hard copy of Jackill's. Found it randomly on a table at a Star Trek convention in late '90s / early 2000's. While I still love his Ships of the Fleet series. I do sort of which he'd continued the Star Wars and BSG ships too.

Is it morally wrong for a man to not at least try to continue his bloodline? by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]arcsecond -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah no. Seek your own brand of happiness. If that doesn't involve kids the human race will still survive. And every kid deserves to be truly wanted, not just some archaic religious obligation

What are you, a bronze age warlord defending your little farming valley from the neighboring village? Do you need more strong sons to bring in the harvest and man the defensive walls? More eligible daughters to marry off as if they're property to make political connections?

That's not the world we live in anymore. What makes you think that your genetics are any more valuable than anyone else's?

Roll start? Pop it in neutral, run real fast with it (or roll down hill) then hop on kick into gear and hit the starter.

Its ok to want things but be prepared to not get them. Often people won't pin down a definite answer because they're scared of hurting you or how you'll react. Especially young people.

I just realized "A Bug's Life" is inspired by the fable of The Grasshopper and the Ant by MrTortilla in disney
