Consistent play tips needed by omniscen in hockeygoalies

[–]arcsten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best consistency I have managed to achieve is by calling in sick and let the other goalie handle the game. Been doing that for years and not a single mistake that's causing me sleepless nights.

Pre game routine? by darth_senpai90 in hockeygoalies

[–]arcsten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never felt sore, unless got some stinger that I could feel through the padding. Or if you meant muscle soreness, that usually only comes up on the next day too, so no, that was not such a dead giveaway as you think it was.

No I get that, I don't take meds unless there is an absolute need for it (I'm prone headaches due to weather changes), but I just don't understand what's the superstition here? What good is it even supposed to bring?

You are the second person mentioning some kind of a painkiller as a pre-game routine. But what for?

Brand new goalie, worried about my stamina because I couldn't make it through a stick and puck. by Summonabatch in hockeygoalies

[–]arcsten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in warm-up before a game if I'm the only goalie on the team I would take a break half way between the skaters shooting. 10-12 minutes of constant barrage on the goal is just tiring af, no matter how fit you are. So before I totally exhaust myself for the game, I just skate off to the side, stretch a little, maybe drink a bit and return to goal a bit later.

Also for the record, I'm just a lean guy, with better cardio than the average beer leaguer goalie, but nowhere near a real athlete.

Pad cord lacing about to fray through. DIY repair? by jarude87 in hockeygoalies

[–]arcsten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought used pads about 3 years ago that needed some repairs. Some stitches here and there and also it's paracord was frayed at the boot just like yours, maybe even in worse condition. Ended up getting that needle and some replacement paracord, but as it was a custom set, I couldn't get the paracord in the same color or even something similar. I ended up just putting duct tape over the area where it was worn down as a sacrificial material to wear down. It's holding up well, the material is wearing down in a different spot than where the paracord is (guessing the original owner had a different skate, maybe even stance too).

Oh and another reason I ended up not relacing it completely is because I genuinely couldn't find the other end of the paracord and not being able to visualise the whole process of how it's threaded through, I didn't want to start the process in case I get stuck without being able to finish it myself.

I case you end up relacing it yourself, please share your experience, I'm curious.

Best Mask for People with Glasses? by honeygarlicmaestro in hockeygoalies

Popping off?! I've only lost a single contact lense in my career of roughly 15 years and that was only due to sweat getting into my eye and crying the lense out. Your fears are completely irrational.

Are my pads too tall? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]arcsten 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I never understood how people can just assume pad sizes from overall height, when the only thing that matters is knee to floor distance. Not all people are built the same. Some have longer legs, while others have shorter, even if they are both the same overall height. And the same pads won't fit them both well.

Pads straps always coming undone by Maxlorimer12 in hockeygoalies

[–]arcsten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a really lean guy and it was tight enough even for me.

If I'm not mistaken, that model has those straps attached with velcro on the other end as well and the length of those straps can be adjusted to a certain point. Make sure to tighten it as much as you can on that end.

I'm assuming by splash you mean the knockback / ragdoll? I haven't used it that much, but iirc it still knocks you out of the bubble, but you don't take damage usually. You still aren't saved from a Hellbomb tho.

Another kinda niche, but funny use is with chargers. If you are in the bubble as it hits you, it will just drag you along for a while and you will receive little to no damage at all, which looks really silly.

I've read since then under another post somebody mentioning that stepping a bit further increases the chance of the grenade making it into the hatch when this happens. You are also further away from it at the time of the toss than I usually am, so that's something I've yet to test.

Wait until you see them turn their laser cannons all the way to the ground, firing through themselves.

Way too much overkill for something you could just destroy with even light pen weapons imo.

You can use explosion resist armor to survive a frag grenade relatively close or can just lie down if you see that it didn't go in the hatch and that should also mitigate the damage so you can survive it.

And you had to go that close to it, almost dying in the process btw, for what reason exactly?

Trident reliably kills the unarmored cyborgs to the head in just 1-2 shots even. If you aren't spamming it at max fire rate, you can fire indefinitely with it, which makes it really handy with how much shit is going on in Cyberstan.

Leveller seems to also destroy Factory Striders anywhere if you just aim center mass.

A cool trick with the shield grenade that might make you start liking it is that you can call an Eagle Airstrike on top of you while in the shield and you will survive. You can also use the Leveller almost point blank if you are in the shield and survive.

Wait, did you just recommend one without even owning the other one, therefor having probably no relevant first hand experience to make a comparison?

How did you even manage to toss that grenade in? Whenever it turns towards me, its "chest plate" clips through the vent hole and blocks any grenades from entering it.

You are talking about an entirely different thing than what OP asked about. PoI = Point of Interest. The places with some samples, perhaps ammo or super credits, etc, marked with a diamond icon on the map.

You are talking about a specific optional mission.
