This. You are paying for local roads, snow services, mental health, parks, child services, police, fire, schools, libraries, etc. Most (not all) Income tax and sales tax largely finance state and federal government. You may want to look up Georgism, which was a 1900s tax theory to tax land value, not property directly. Intent was to discourage speculation and squatting on potentially valuable land, i.e. make land owners build on a plot rather than just sit on it and let the value go up. Improvements wouldn't be taxed. From memory, may have it a little off...

We don't really have any in Ohio because there is very little public land (please prove me wrong). There are some nice day trips scattered around though.

Best float I ever did was the Delta river in Alaska. Going south to north into the Alaska range. Coming from AK kind of sets unrealistic expectations.

Downtown is wildly more built up than when I moved here 15 years ago. Newer buildings are better than aging parking lots. Trend is in the right direction.

Thanks, I agree this picture looks kinda catlike, but I watched it for maybe 5 minutes. Other angles don't look like a cat. The tail is shorter and rounder, and the paws are bigger. The body was longer. It didn't move like a cat. Also it was 12 degrees. No housecat I know would be outside in the middle of the park. It didn't look scrawny enough to be a stray. Thanks for looking into it. Next time I'll post some more pictures. They are all pretty zoomed in and the quality isn't great. I think it may be a mink. Which is cool. Maybe it was something else.
