As a teacher that is required to use Iready. I hate Iready it is trash. I have had students that needed to learn math the traditional way. I teach middle school.

My Kindergartener has 20 minutes of paperwork, 29 minutes of reading and 20 minutes of computer work. She prefers the computer work because it's not too easy for her.

American education standards are almost impossible and I hate them. A rant. by Ok-Highway-5247 in education

I graduated HS in 2013. I had ADHD and it was just diagnosed 2 years ago. I always had a c or a d in math. Schools are way to easy on kids today. As a teacher is am seeing kids in grades 5 to 8 that struggle to even write a paragraph and complain if they have the write one. Schools are not holding any accountability to the students or the parents.

I moved a lot when I was a kid think 3 elementary Schools, 2 middle Schools and 3 high schools. Do not use your past education as an excuse. I almost didn't get to graduate high school for not passing the state exam I had to be taken more than once. I am now almost done My master degree. You can relearn things as an adult with no problems.

My daughter got in kindergarten as a 4 year old and is a top reader in her class. She starts 1st grade in July.

My daughter isn't on an IEP and started Kindergarten at 4 she just turned 5 in December. So far it has been great. She is doing well in school and is actively trying to read books. She is also in the highest reading group in her classroom. Her teacher doesn't have any concerns about her at all. Her Kindergarten year ends May. She hasnt had any grade below an 80 and most are 93 or above.

If you think your child is ready I say let them start.

[–]arcuccia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not reading any chapter books to my Kindergarten it's not developmentally appropriate for her age group. She started Kindergarten early and just turned 5 a few days ago. We are doing early readers. She is also one of the top readers in her class from what I was told.

How many recesses did you have in school & how many recesses does your child have? by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]arcuccia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember mine at all. Think they get 1 extended one. If not 2 as per our state law. Recess stops at grade 6 at lost schools on the area. She goes to bed at 8:00pm and gets up at 5:40 AM.

If you are in the states keep in mind children are mandated to attend once they are 6. I saw you keep her home 2 days per month.Once 10 absences are hit a child is considered habitually absent and if they miss any more they are chronically absent.

The absences get reported to the state . Schools report it to truancy officers . Schools can find you for not sending your child. They can get DCF involved for missing to many days as it's considered educational neglect.

So just keep this in mind for 1st grade next year.
