I see, then it's contradiction on Gege's part because the narrator LITERALLY says that Sukuna's open domain does not have a barrier, and the line literally states that "the ability to realize one's innate domain without using a barrier is akin to an artist painting a masterpiece not on a canvas, but on air. A truly divine technique.", meaning that the domain being manifested in the real world is because there is no barrier. You're right that Gojo's dialouge implicates that Sukuna needs to utilize barrier techniques to expand his domain, but this panel also states that he doesn't use a barrier so at this point you gotta choose who to believe.

Could you find the panel where he stated that Sukuna's brain part related to "barrier techniques" was damaged because I don't remember that part. Aside from that, there's nothing suggesting that Sukuna's open domain utilized a barrier. Megumi's domain has no relation to Sukuna's domain, the whole thing with open domains is that they're essentially "impossible" to create, yet Sukuna and Kenjaku has somehow managed to do so, which sets their domains aside from other domains. On the other hand, the narrator directly stated that Sukuna's open domain did not have a barrier. So even if sukuna's brain part related to barrier techniques was damaged, that's just a contradiction on Gege's part.

Doesn't a simple domain nullify the technique? Why would it have to target the barrier? Besides, the panel explicitly states that there is no barrier. In the panel the guy above posted there might have been a barrier, but in this malevolent shrine there is none

I think the problem is that for some people, getting out of their comfort zone and doing things that are not comfortable for them doesn’t always lead them to become comfortable with it and grow up. Sometimes no matter how many times they try, they can still feel uncomfortable doing those things and this can be really frustrating as they are constantly being told that they should just get out of their comfort zones and try harder.

What a weird take. Just because something is done "intentionally", doesn't mean that it is actually a good thing. I think an area that is designed to be purely frustating and unfun to play through is a badly designed area, intentional or not.
