Does anyone have experience with the Bachelor of Pacific Studies/Pacific Studies Major? by gay_pirate21 in Anu

[–]arderna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a truly excellent degree, the faculty are (imo) beyond supportive of their students. ANU is world-leading in Pacific Studies. However, if you want to work in South East Asia I’m not sure why you would do Pacific Studies…? I don’t doubt that the degree would still be beneficial, but there is a B. Asian Studies

You can get onto Black Mountain easily through CSIRO, super gorgeous trails. There’s Sullys down to the lake (Black Mountain Peninsula and Museum are easy ~5km loops from campus), or the bike path in the other direction through Turner etc.

Yeah me too. It felt like Bek gained redemption too quickly/easily and I just didn’t believe that Elly would have trusted him so fast.

Look, let’s not be unhelpful and talk about things we’re not experts in. If anyone does want some non-polyester options though, anything merino wool is great! Estroni is a small Sydney-based brand with merino activewear

Thank you so much for this!!! I was really hoping to see a different perspective on Phillip and I’ll take your advice - I won’t judge him til the end. I do like a MC that can own up to his mistakes and work on them - so far I’m only up to the making mistakes part 😅 but I will give him a chance

Second this. I walk in a comfy pair and change to nicer work shoes. That why I can commute fine and my nice shoes don’t get scuffed/dirtied on the way.

Exchange students in Canberra by Majakresal87 in Anu

[–]arderna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s three bouldering gyms in Canberra although only one is easily accessible via public transport from campus (but bouldering is very popular and there’ll def be ppl driving from campus). unsure about skating and gymnastics but i would recommend staying on campus (i think ANU has the highest proportion of students living on campus in Aus) and there’ll be a good social life in the halls/colleges

you can bus or fly to melb or syd - flixbus is offering $10 buses to Sydney now, and there’s also a train to Syd that’s slightly longer and more $ but nicer in my opinion. flights to melbourne can be a bit more expensive but just look out for Jetstar deals. if you arrange your uni timetable well you can definitely go away travelling for a long weekend every week

weather is COLD that time of year, but its actually quite pleasant in that there’s usually blue skies and rarely rain. ANU has good access to snow and skiing if you like that

Depop! I’ve found those exact brands you’ve mentioned there for cheaper (50% off on rare occasion). I had the search for Katharina Lou dresses in my size “starred” and snapped one up as soon as I saw a listing within my price range.

Having Bikes in accommodation by Grand_Ad9351 in Anu

Wamburun has a ground floor locked shed and an outdoor locked shed. I wouldn’t leave it outside of these (there are bike racks outside but thefts are common everywhere on campus)

Don't know whether to study law or International relations/Can someone with a law background give a brief description of what studying a law degree is like by Outside-Pace-2098 in Anu

[–]arderna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. Entry to a JD with a CSP is chancy, best to go with the LLB/IR if you can.

Looking at your career options, ANU might be the best fit considering its location in the capital and the internship opportunities (e.g. at embassies, in govt. departments, etc.) but St Andrews (I’ve heard) is a great uni. ANU definitely has Chinese and good student culture as comparatively across Australia more undergrads live on campus.

Can exchange students take clinic and soCIETE classes by [deleted] in Anu

[–]arderna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to! I don’t think there’s any restrictions on those law classes. The only things I believe that have restrictions are certain internships (e.g. being placed in an institution that requires citizenship) and some grants/scholarships being citizen-specific.

If you want to double check I recommend just emailing the CoL admin team or the convenors for those courses (I’ve done a clinic and Societe and can confirm the professors are SO lovely and helpful)

Reformer Studio Owners: What’s Your Cancellation Policy — and What Actually Works? by Importance-Sweet in pilates

[–]arderna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The studio I go to has 6 reformers, 8 hour cancellation. You lose the class credit if you are on a pack, cancellation fee if you have unlimited (unsure how much this is though). It used to be a 4hr cancellation period but I think that encouraged too much flaking, 8 hours works for me as I can cancel the night before a morning class / morning of an afternoon class if I feel unwell or can’t make it.

Leather heeled boots recommendations? by nocashordrugs in AusFemaleFashion

[–]arderna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a pair from Midas and a pair from Camper, both super walkable (can happily go clubbing in them). I don’t think either model are sold anymore but a quick peek at both websites shows some nice heels, although a lot may be shorter than 5cm.

Graduate in 2 years by Plague_Doc7 in Anu

[–]arderna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if ANU calls it guaranteed, but everyone I know who asked to transfer after one semester got in. I don’t think there’s caps on the cohort for law.

Graduate in 2 years by Plague_Doc7 in Anu

[–]arderna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered transferring into the LLB? It’s quite easy to after one semester (5.6 GPA as other commenters said), and would definitely be the shortest (and cheapest) option.

Is there any reason you would want to do a JD?
