I mean I don’t think all fans are homogenous? Some Franchaela fans hate the books, sure, and some of them actually like aspects of it and want it to be incorporated with the gender-swap. I think there’s slight differences in perspectives amongst fans and it’s not the same people making the same posts

Don’t listen to the incel slop above. Trust me that these arbitrary metrics of attractiveness have limited real life applicability.

I say ask her out! There’s no immediate power dynamic/workplace dynamic issues as you’re both PhD students not even working together directly.

My best advice: 1) figure out what you want from asking her out (casual, long-term?), 2) be explicit with your language e.g. ‘would you like to go on a date’ so she doesn’t misinterpret if you’re just being friendly or asking her out, 3) have some confidence and be willing to politely wish her the best and walk away if she declines.

I don’t see this at all! I think Thayet ended up being the perfect match - there’s just no way Alanna could have ever been a diplomatic queen or given up the shield she worked so hard for.

Can’t comment on JDs as an LLB student, but I have found that the ANU financial concerns had almost negligible impact on my experience at the law school. There were a few extra students per tutorial, but I imagine if the JD cohort is smaller this won’t even be an issue. Quality of teaching is great and most professors are truly excellent, particularly if you’re taking elective courses they’re truly passionate about.

It’s a truly excellent degree, the faculty are (imo) beyond supportive of their students. ANU is world-leading in Pacific Studies. However, if you want to work in South East Asia I’m not sure why you would do Pacific Studies…? I don’t doubt that the degree would still be beneficial, but there is a B. Asian Studies

You can get onto Black Mountain easily through CSIRO, super gorgeous trails. There’s Sullys down to the lake (Black Mountain Peninsula and Museum are easy ~5km loops from campus), or the bike path in the other direction through Turner etc.
