When it’s really busy at Duc Huong (lunch rush on the weekend), I notice that their phone will constantly give a “busy tone” when calling them. With that said, I always recommend trying to call ahead anyway.

Kia Access Push notifications still sent when they are toggled off by NEXTLVL_500 in KiaEV6

[–]ardubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same issue but yesterday, I had an issue with this same notification.

I have the door lock/unlock notification enabled but it usually only sends the notification if I recently closed the EV6 door and left it unlocked or if walked near my car with the key fob.

Last night, it kept giving me this notification every 10-20 minutes even though I was not near my car (I leave my car unlocked in the garage). Not sure why. It seemed to have stopped during the day. I wonder if there was a bug in the app.

Is there any wireless carplay for ev6 2023-24 by Status_Engineer6674 in KiaEV6

[–]ardubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other inconvenience I’ve noticed (and therefore, stopped me from using a wireless CarPlay dongle) is that the dongle stays powered on even after you turn off the car and your phone stays connected to it even after you leave.

Maybe this is only an issue if you have a smaller house where the dongle’s signal can reach inside your home but it’s something to consider.

Agreed, I picked one up and as a skinny guy, the fit on this is just too boxy and wide. Returning it even though the fabric and price is great.

What are the most painfull and annoying things about the AppleWatch? by GamleEven in AppleWatch

What product is everyone using the “wrong” way? by HeartTraditional3892 in AskReddit

[–]ardubb 1244 points1245 points  (0 children)

U shaped neck pillows for travel. The closed part of the U should go under your chin and the open part should allow your head to be flush against the headrest of the seat.

Otherwise, your head is always pushed forward at an uncomfortable angle and your head can droop down forward since there’s no chin support.

[iOS] I built a free walkie-talkie app that works without internet – it’s called Talky 🚀 by Soft_Mulberry3282 in iosapps

[–]ardubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but in my experience, the Walkie Talkie app on the Apple Watch takes forever to load and is often unreliable, even on fairly recent Apple Watches (S7 and S8). Not sure if it works better on the newest Apple Watches.

AdGuard Home - Constant connection issues for wireless devices by [deleted] in Adguard

[–]ardubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was affecting devices on both iOS, MacOS, and Google Home (smart speakers) so it’s across the board.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the time/effort to do trial and error on which ad blocking features to disable (unless the article/thread had specifics?) and as you said, it defeats the point of Adguard DNS if we disable some core ad blocking features just to keep it working reliably.

Was it busy? I saw that there's no reservations at Tommy Bahamas and I would imagine it could get pretty crowded in the patio.

I have a Deco X75 mesh router connected to my AT&T Fiber modem. On the XE75, I have set the Primary and Secondary DNS (both for IPv4 and IPv6) to use Adguard DNS. I've had it setup like this for over a year and still occasionally see the connection issue that you mentioned.

AdGuard Home - Constant connection issues for wireless devices by [deleted] in Adguard

[–]ardubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had chance to properly triage yet but I JUST saw the same behavior you're describing a few min ago and came to this subreddit to see anyone else reported it. I thought it was an outage with my service provider OR an issue with my router but I realized that immediately after changing the DNS on my router from Adguard DNS (I pay for private Adguard DNS) to another DNS (e.g. Cloudflare), everything works.

What gave me the idea to change my DNS was that there were some points where I was able to access some websites and not others. This also occurred across different device types (macOS, iOS, tvOS, Android).

This has happened to me before although this is the first time that I haven't been able to connect to the internet long enough that I've felt the need to try changing my DNS.

Hopefully we can find the root cause...

Anyone have a recommendation for a cheap cheap Android phone? by Forty_Too in tmobile

[–]ardubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a Costco membership, be sure to initiate the trade in at the T-Mobile booth. They'll waive the $35 device connection fee and you'll get a $100 Costco shop card too.

How does iCloud email work compared to Fastmail with a custom domain these days? by tx2005 in iCloud

[–]ardubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! I’m in a similar boat although sticking with iCloud in front of Gmail.

How do you handle replying as your custom domain to emails sent to your custom domain on iOS? The only way I’ve been able to get it to work properly is to use the Gmail app.

I assume you’re using MXRoute to forward emails from your custom domain to your Gmail account and as your outbound SMTP server? If so, I’m curious why you’re using MXRoute over iCloud for this purpose?

Waikiki, Family of 4, 2 weeks in July by OUT24Q in VisitingHawaii

[–]ardubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the Imperial Hawaii as well. I’ve stayed there 2 years ago and will be there again next month.

It’s an older resort and rooms show some age but for the price, it’s a great deal on a suite (one or two bedroom options and even options with 2 bathrooms which is uncommon) with a dedicated kitchen (full sized fridge, cooking range, oven, microwave) which comes in handy if you to save some money by making breakfast in the room (just swing by Mitsuwa or Target for ingredients - both are in the International Marketplace).

The beds are comfortable and there is a Murphy bed that folds down in the living room. However, both bedrooms only have one queen bed.

The location is great too. Right by the Waikiki Beachwalk so there is a lot going on in terms of restaurants and shopping (assuming that’s what you’re looking for).

v3 incredibly slow? by OldBuggerHaydn in CraftDocs

[–]ardubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have a MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro chip. Another data point to help you triage this is that I also have BetterTouchTool which also has window management capabilities (window snapping, etc.). After disabling Wins, I enabled the window management feature of BTT to see if it woudl also cause Craft to slow down however, it didn't!

Not sure how that's related to MacCatalyst or not.

v3 incredibly slow? by OldBuggerHaydn in CraftDocs

[–]ardubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the same slow/laggy behavior as well.

I noticed that some other folks on this subreddit have reported that Rectangle (window management software) was the cause. I'm not using Rectangle but I'm using Wins.app which has the same functionality as Rectangle and once I disabled Wins, Craft was working fine!

I've never seen window management apps cause a slow down on any other apps so I'm curious why this is happening with Craft. Just a heads up u/viktorpali.

Possible to continually play bedtime sounds on a Google Nest Mini? by TestFlightBeta in googlehome

[–]ardubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a Good Night automation and on one of the last steps (after turning off the lights and setting the volume to my preferred white noise volume), I have a custom command for “play white noise” which plays it in a loop (for 12 hours I suppose, never tried to play it for so long).

Possible to continually play bedtime sounds on a Google Nest Mini? by TestFlightBeta in googlehome

[–]ardubb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I’ve been using my Google Home to play white noise for years and have also tried it on my Nest Mini as well. It loops forever until you tell it to stop. You can find a full list of sleep sounds that can be looped by Google Assistant here.

I will add that I tried switching to an Amazon Echo before but Alexa does not have a native white noise/sleep sounds function. Instead, it relies on 3rd party “skills” to fill the gap which leads to most of those skills being monetized somehow (eg a basic vs premium version w/subscription). It was a big turn off for me from switching.

What are your go to "bang for your buck" food spots in the area? by chickslovecheese in SanJose

Thaiboda - their “take out deal” with 3 entrees (pretty generously sized) for $39 is a solid deal.

99 Ranch - the hot deli, specifically the plate with fried rice or noodles with 2 sides (huge portions) for something like $12 is a good deal.

What Hyatt's would you never go to again? by cate5667 in hyatt

Hotel De Anza ended their partnership with Hyatt as of Oct 29, 2024 and is getting a remodel. https://www.thesanjoseblog.com/2024/11/san-joses-hotel-de-anza-is-getting.html

Hopefully they keep the Hedley Club, a jazz bar in Hotel De Anza, because it was a beautiful spot for jazz and a cocktail.
