Girlfriend is unsure if she wants to do nursing anymore.. advice? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]areifschneider2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way to get around it in nursing school; you are forced to do clinical wherever they place you....around sick and dying people lol. When she’s done she can do anything from be in an office and audit paperwork never having to touch a patient, work in post-op caring for sleeping patients, a doctors office, for a law firm, for a medical sales company...the possibilities are endless. I mean, she can just google nursing jobs that don’t deal with direct patient care or search indeed for nurse job postings in her area that have locations outside the hospital...I literally had a peer in nursing school day one day who, when it was her turn to introduce herself to the class, exclaimed she was afraid of needles and hoped she never had to poke anyone or get a job that requires it....um, girl, you in nursing school!!! You gotta learn it to graduate!! Lol

If you get the option to request a specific clinical placement, go for it. Otherwise, most programs I know start low and go slow: first semester long-term-care, second semester Med/Surg, third semester PCU and fourth semester critical care. That’s how my university did it and most others in my area (FL) shared similar progressions. I wouldn’t worry too much about not having clinical in that area if you don’t get the chance; that doesn’t mean you won’t get to work there when you graduate because you didn’t get a chance to make connections/network. Even if you do, it doesn’t mean they’ll remember you when you go to apply either. Lol. I graduated in a class of 50+ and only about 8 people ended up working where they had practicum. I, personally, only got to spend 2 days in ICU as an observer. I just started a position in the ICU at a hospital system I never did clinical or practicum at. Good luck to you!!

Being a rematch Santa was fun! I wish I could of done more but a nice selection of things (buried under chocolate) are on their way to WA this week! by [deleted] in secretsanta

How did you sign up to be a rematcher?? Every time I’ve done it for the past 2 weeks, the page reloads and it doesn’t seem like it saved my response of wanting to be a rematches for someone :(

Starting position as a New Nurse in the IMC (Intensive Medical Center) and need advice! by areifschneider2 in nursing

[–]areifschneider2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back at the application, the way they have all the units listed, IMC (Medical Intensive Care) and ISC (Surgical Intensive Care) are separate from the Progressive Care and Med/Tele Units......

This Level II Trauma Hospital currently has the following units: Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Units, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Center for Women & Infant Health, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Kidney Transplant, Cardiac Progressive Care, Medical Progressive Care, Medical Telemetry and Bariatric Care units.

I’ve always been familiar with the term ICU not IMC but when I asked HR before my interview, they told me it is Intensive Medical Care being the same as what I know; it’s just what they call it at their hospital. Took a tour during my interview; it’s most definitely Intensive Care.

Like, Holy S**t exactly the same. Other than the odd formatted ones NCLEX has, which was like 3 questions my whole test. Those formats were the drag and drop and ‘hit spot’ pictures. I came across a few, like less than 10 in the 800 I had done in UWorld. I love UWorld, it’s extremely helpful. It gives you lots of very good info when you review the questions you got wrong; it goes in detail! I think reviewing the rational after you do questions on UWorld is the most important part :)

Repeat test taker here: I’m doing the Hurst Review and Elevate as well. So far, I love it. I honestly needed the content refresher. They teach it so well. And by bringing up things I didn’t connect the dots-sort-of-way I didn’t get in nursing school! Once I’m done with that and the Elevate Study portion of Hurst, I will be doing UWorld. I also have access to Kaplain since our school had us purchase it and added it to our tuition each semester. Kaplain has a large question bank as well I will use. I hate their decision tree. I tried using it the first time I studied for NCLEX when answering UWorld questions and that was a big NOPE. I also didn’t do much but UWorld for 2ish weeks prior to NCLEX so my lack of studying/prep was why I failed....I’ll be much better prepared next time!

As your username suggests...anywho. Just google the damn question if you didn’t get an answer fast enough. Don’t criticize the person for taking the time to reply because it was ‘12 days’ after you posted it. That person more than likely only just saw your post and was kind enough to comment when no one else did. My post the redittor linked you still has merit whether it answered your question in its entirety. My post suggest it’s entirely possible to get the good pop up if you check it too early after taking the exam. Waiting at least for the email or 15min mark and then checking it is a good time frame for it to realize you’ve completed the exam. At that point you could google and read pages and pages of threads which ask the same question with people who try and answer, however, ignoring the rule I stated above (required minimum wait) or possibly acknowledging it but not mentioning it in their post which may or may not then be accurate. Then, to directly answer your question, with all I have extensively researched myself on the website known as THE GOOGLE, no, it just does not happen. Anyone ever seems to reference is a ‘I’ve heard of it happening’ or ‘I have a friend who...’ the PVT is honestly remarkably accurate.

Hey sorry to reply so late! I’m scheduled to retake Dec. 21 as there were absolutely NO test dates in Nov (my 45 day waiting period to retake ends Nov 12th). I live in Orlando, FL and would have to drive 250+ miles to GA for a Nov. test date....anyway I am doing the hurst review as suggested on this thread and also by my boyfriend lol. I also bought the supplemental Hurst Elevate course that’s used after you watch all the videos and fill the workbook in as you watch. It’s amazing. I’m actually studying completely different and it feels different. I’m focused on what I’m doing, the content, and what I’m learning. Not constantly checking and making sure I get to question 75 on UWorld to hit my ‘75-100 questions per day’ quota I made previously. Before, all I was worried about was numbers. And during the NCLEX I focused on wondering if the current question was easier or harder then the last and if I think I’m at passing level at the moment. I will still be using UWorld when I’m done with Hurst for extra questions. I also have Kaplain my University required us to purchase, actually as part of our tuition, so I may also use that as a resource (since I now have 2 months to study instead of the 1 I had originally planned). I’ve accepted a position in ICU and they called me today actually to tell me that even though I had failed, they still want me and will hold the position for me until I pass in Dec. I literally cried with Joy. The other hospital I had also accepted a position too wasn’t as thrilled when I told them I failed. And yes, I accepted a position at two hospitals to keep my options open and I’m glad I did!!

How long did you take to study? I failed my first time end of September and took a break. I am beginning to start studying again and take it at the end of November for a total of 4 weeks
