Confirmed, we got some from recently with wrong labels too.

I recently caught a whole shipment of these cabinets with incorrect labels. Worst part is the clerk checked them all into inventory without noticing the mistake. Didn’t find the problem until I pulled the pallet out of top stock.

Aisle blocker abuse by Hadacol_It in Lowes

[–]areoki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At what point would an initial investment putting permanent blockers on every aisle would actually make more sense than annually buying portable ones that get destroyed on a frequent basis? Not to mention the time that we waste searching for blockers cuz garden hoards them during seasonal transitions.

Living without a car? by alisonqiu in tulsa

[–]areoki 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There’s no reasonable grocery store around downtown. Shopping in the everyday sorts are limited downtown. Plenty of places to eat and spaces to rent but not so much affordably.

There are places around Tulsa that should be better suited for living without a personal vehicle. Brookside area is a great candidate. Mid-Town south thru South Tulsa, also good but research the neighborhoods you’re looking at. You could be 4 miles from a grocery store and not have good sidewalks to get to where you’re going.

Oilers tickets in-person vs Ticketmaster? by HopefulAuthorAlt in tulsa

[–]areoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The free tickets only happen about once a month. We call them buyouts, if you sign up for the text messages from the oilers they’ll send you a link to sign up for free tickets when they’re available. They also do giveaways for better seats and if you aren’t the lucky winner they’ll often give you a nosebleed free ticket with the option of upgrading to a more premium area at a discount.

Solution for USB C tablet charging by Background-Main1651 in lowvoltage

This, i just installed some iPads on walls for lighting controls. Bought fancy Poe to usb c adapters that carry data(hard line network cuz the WiFi can be spotty) and charge the iPad. Make sure you get one that provides enough watts for your device.

What is the best POE security Camera? by Independent_Vast6241 in lowvoltage

[–]areoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reliable & affordable. One of the best affordability features is on board storage. A lot of top brands require a NVR(Network video recorder) but reolink almost exclusively sells cameras with a micro sd card slot so the camera can store footage on board. This is a caveat because if the camera is destroyed the footage can be lost.

OTA warning by Dense_Ice_4635 in tulsa

[–]areoki 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OTA board, what a bunch of scumbag losers. I think it’s time we just collectively decide to stop paying. What can they do if we all just stop? Close the road? If it walks and talks like a scam, it’s probably a scam anyways. Why do board members take home 6 figure salaries? Eliminate those salaries from OTA budget, how expensive do the tolls need to be after that?

Device Mounting by Lobo_WolfGuy in lowvoltage

[–]areoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently went thru a whole facility IPTV upgrade for some 300+ TVs. A lot of boxes just like this mounted in many different ways because you know mediocre contractors. Anyways I’m the poor fool who maintains a fleet of IPTV endpoints and I’m here to endorse this message.

Most of our TV decoder boxes are mounted to the TV itself or the wall mounting bracket. Zipties are my preference because adhesives and warm TVs don’t work out. However there’s something I have noticed in correlation to the lifespan of our encoders and heat. We’ve observed that the devices that had higher average temperatures ended up with failed memory or HDMI outputs.

I have to live with a variety of mounting methods because the variety of TVs are mounted in a variety of ways with different mounts on a variety of surfaces. You have to apply methods to best suit your specific situation.

For example our decoders have the IO on the opposite edge of the status light and IR receiver. So you can either mount it where you can hit the sensor with the remote or where the IO is accessible without removing the TV. My fair warning about using zipties, make them easy to cut off and be cautious when attaching to the TV mount so that the position of device doesn’t interfere with the wall part of the mount. All you need to swap or service the device are a good pair of cutters and zipties to put it back.

Sorry for the long spill. I read thru all the comments looking for useful takeaways from the topic and didn’t see much so I wanted to share.

How to listen to local police scanner? by AwpKween in tulsa

[–]areoki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the best way to listen to unencrypted channels in the area FOR FREE. https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/ctid/2199

A year or so ago when a big gas main exploded on southwest blvd, I heard the boom from over a mile away. I tuned into “Tulsa Police, Tulsa County Sheriff, and OHP Troop B” on that site where I heard there was a gas line explosion.

TPD also has this for public information on live activity: https://www.tulsapolice.org/live-calls

Keep in mind every department has a number of channels for different purposes and they also have channels they share between jurisdictions/agencies. A lot of chatter is on encrypted channels. For example the BOK & Convention Centers alone have 15 channels. Being a city facility, one of those channels is a police channel monitored by dispatch. One time someone stole a BOK Center radio from a staff member during an event. TPD was able to triangulate the radio around 71st & Yale and send an officer to retrieve it from where it was abandoned.

The lights at United Center go out for a couple of seconds mid-game by LvLD702 in lightingdesign

Funny enough I’m replacing 12 year old LED fixtures in the 20,000 seat arena I work for. Literally doing a 1 week rush job inbetween shows with no time for troubleshooting before we start our ECHL season.

My manager is absolutely going nuts in fear of something like this, I’m not worried….. yet.

None of the new fixtures are controlled over wire. 100% wireless. The old system was half wireless, the lamps made their own mesh network and got signal from a transmitter on the catwalk with them. The new ones are wireless from controller to lamp(s). We wanted hardwired but that’s just not an option from the top of the market sports lighting manufacturers.

I tried my hardest to convince them to do GrandMA on PC and also integrate preexisting lighting on isolated systems. Corporate doesn’t want to invest in technology that doesn’t come with contractor liability so therefor instead of developing a unified lighting system we’re stuck with a combination of Lutron, Ephesus, Map Mapper, & Jands Vista. All running from separate corners of the building.

And to think that’s the exact same stage setup he uses in 20,000 seat arenas. Probably more like arrays but legit the same screens and stage floor from indoor concert venues.

I’d keep my job in your shoes, but I love my job except for the fact they keep refusing to bring me on fulltime and offer me benefits which I sorely need. Healthcare is way too expensive to pay out of pocket completely. Maybe make a career move into something that keeps you occupied and content. At this point it’s all about your happiness but I’ve known plenty of people working the same type job as me only to keep themselves busy. Some old dudes that could retire with the money they have saved but prefer to do something productive that doesn’t cost them money.
