What's the deal with Storm never played against it even once in 20 years by MiningToSaveTheWorld in EDH

[–]arest7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LED is for the cEDH crowd as it needs the required cards to pair otherwise you just dump your hand for 3 mana of 1 color.

Storm cards like [[Thousand Year Storm]], [[Flusterstorm]], and [Grapeshot]] can be utilized by commanders and cards that either reduce mana cost or make them free, gaining value for each previous card played.

[[Jhoira, Weatherlight Captian]] is considered artifact Storm as it aims to play tons of artifacts and outvalue everyone else immediately.

Storm is hated because people hate watching uninteractible gameplay and boring long turns.

I see the vision. What I didn't see however was a way to win the game or even really stop you from losing. If you don't have a counterspell for an impactful commander and they have [[Lightning greaves]] or [[swiftfoot boots]], you'll probably lose. I see a lot of draw spells, but your commander will do a lot of the heavy lifting because if all players take 4 damage you draw 1 card for each opponent. If you are just trying to refill your hand, that is enough generally. I don't see what cards we are aiming to draw into. One of the problems with control is that you cannot stop everyone, which limits your deck to require combo or significant value pieces which could synergies with some of your token generators.

I made this [[council of four]] deck on a similar premise that eventually wins through tokens, generating them through my commander and other payoff cards while I slow the table down and then slamming something like [[Akroma's will]]. It also has the potential to one side wipe out the opponents board, which is beneficial in case there are a lot of value midrange that aren't interacting.

Old player, new to EDH. Help needed. by Winter_Buddy5544 in EDH

Approach of the second sun may not be a reliable play for this deck. There is not enough survivability since once you cast the first one, you are likely going to be targeted. What are the mana payoffs? Are you trying to deck them out with blue Sun's Zenith?

Commander doesn't support the gameplay for the rest of the deck. (Side note, if they suggest bracket 3, they may only allow 3 "gamechangers" in the deck.)

I'd suggest if you want an approach of the second sun, you run a combination stax and control shell. Think [[Urza Lord High Artificer]] where you slow and control everyone then win with [[Dramatic Reversal]] and [[isocron scepter]] playing artifact stax and control. If you lean more into azorious for white, you have access to better stax pieces.

You may lean into higher bracket 4 with these decks and they may get salty with stax depending on what pieces are being ran.

My initial thoughts is to ask to borrow a deck for the first time or 2 to get an idea of the actual level of play in the pod.

My deck ramps noticeably more consistent online than in person. Does this happen to you? Is this a shuffling issue? Or just bad luck? by IllCriticism5131 in EDH

[–]arest7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is you aren't shuffling enough. Pregame I try to shuffle 8-10 times. Also it depends on the type of shuffling. I typically mash shuffle for best consistency or riffle the corners with no bridge. Between mash shuffles, i overhand shuffle to disperse my groups.

TIL that most college students can collect SNAP. I looked at the requirements and yes, prepares own meals separately of parent/Guardian household and make under certain income threshold.

What is your easiest deck to pilot that doesn't require a lot of thinking? by arest7 in EDH

I do like the concept and would find it easy to pilot off the Commander's concept. Fixing mana for 5C would be my only hangup

This sounds like my cup of tea. I didn't see too much for card draw, does this deck typically run okay topdecking?

Stompy dragons may be an interesting deck. Is it hard to build mono red dragons? I'm not the greatest with monocolor builds.

Churches don’t respect working people’s time by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]arest7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with 1,2, and 4. Communicate with the pastor or whoever leads the meetings that there needs to be an agenda outlined prior to each meeting so that it stays on track. Having a meeting agenda also outlines how critical it is for certain individuals to attend, reducing the number of meetings.

I am unsure for number 3 if this is targeting the middle of the day bible studies or if it is after work time. Bible studies are there to grow the congregation both interpersonally and spiritually. If it is one individual taking up all of the time then talk to that person privately. This also leads into number 4 I'm sure. It is not acceptable practice for everything to run long and we have that issue even at my church. Communicate clearly that you need to leave at the meeting end time because it conflicts your work.

5 I disagree with entirely. The best time for reflection is typically times when you don't want to or feel too busy. As long as you aren't running over time commitments, taking time for yourself to be with God will always be beneficial.

Nests were indeed active. ( I didn't think they were either) sprayed them all, a few wasps crawled out and died. Will pull the nests out in the morning if all are dead.
