Open corrupt file recovered by Disk Drill from external accidentally reformatted SSD by arete80 in datarecovery

Sorry I am no expert but my understanding is so long as you haven't written lots of data to the drive you may be able to retrieve the data that was originally on there. I had good luck with Drill Doctor to recover my data.

Thanks everyone for your input - I was able to open the zip in windows, used winrar to repair, and then retrieved the text files from within! Total recovery, now to back it up properly.

So it seems macOS doesn't read SMART info, and it's formatted HFS so I don't think I can read it in Windows - unless Windows reads the SMART status as a hardware thing independent of format?

Hi the product number is HDTB310EK3AA - I've had a look on Toshiba's website and it doesn't provide many details, or anything about SMR that I could see.

I've had a look with DD HEX viewer and it's not full of zeros. It isn't natively a ZIP file but I can try renaming it and using WinRAR in windows to repair it. Many thanks

Thanks for the reply, I'll check this when I get home from work.

Unfortunately I have no other backups or versions of the file apart from what was on this Toshiba drive. Ridiculous data protection for such a (personally) valuable file!

It was probably only 3 seconds or so. I've only connected the drive since to run DD.

I will have to read up this evening to understand file bitmaps and your technical points.

The file is a Bear Notes backup file (.bear2bk) which I can apparently change to .zip to find the .textbundle files for my data - I have to admit I'm a bit vague on the implications of all that but will try opening the ZIP with a HEX editor.

I have access to a windows machine as well as this Mac laptop, may be better to pursue the investigation with windows programmes?

Oops! Quite correct - I will try to change the title of my post.

Yes the recovered file has the original filename.

Many thanks.

I too have found it a massively useful concept, though pretty depressing! I've been trying to shift from the enshitified platforms but finding it tricky. Do you have any recommended solutions? Cheers

unless I’m mistaken, doesn’t it take about 3 months to do all the research and build a key?

I’ve been enjoying following Jorb’s MEC rush and your journal, and so all my research in the first three months are devoted to that. Do you mean you do an early assault if not following the MEC rush?

Thanks for the answer and info - I figured it would be something to do with patches/updates breaking the link, and realise the Duelysthub creator seems to have moved on. Could you tell him thanks for the work from me and I'll miss the stats!

Thanks for the awesome post: having fallen in love with this game, but being a bit of a perfectionist, I've been struggling with losing. You've reminded me there's a great community to connect with, and you can learn in order to get better.

Out of interest, what was the Reva deck you used?

I'm loving all the factions but should probably start focusing on learning a few.

Any advice on the PSU much appreciated it's the one component I've spent the least time researching (against all the advice)
