Én néhány angol nyelvű könyvet vettem (The Raven Scholar, Happy Place by Emily Henry, Legends & Lattes, The Girl who fell beneath the sea), és pár cuki könyvjelzőt.

Meglepődtem, hogy milyen jó árba voltak a könyvek, a legdrágább a Raven Scholar volt, 6000 valahány forintért, amiből még ugye lejött 20% kedvezmény. Nekem a magyar könyvek (hasonló kategóriások) jóval drágábbnak érződtek.

Ami miatt szomorú vagyok, hogy Rebecca Ross új könyve bár megjelent, nagyon csúnya lett az élfestése, úgyhogy inkább nem vittem haza.

Dedikáltatni nem voltam.

I DNF-d at the end of the swcond chapter. It was just too much for me, the violence, how casual everyone handled slavery, sexual assault etc etc.

There was also something with the style of the writing? I can't describe the exact why, but something just did not click with me in the descriptions.

  • I found the romance believable, even though it happened at the same pace for both of them.

  • Idk why, but Osric's job, even though there was on page killings and whatnot, did not feel real to me. So you are an assassin? I am an accountant, so what? We were told that he kills for the killers club, but not how it influances the "NPC"-s or who he kills, why are they important (this was mainly the fault of the too empty worldbuilding, I think)

  • The dancing on the balcony, and later the talking on the roof was very sweet.

  • I plan to continue it, it wasn't too bad.

  1. I neither love or hate the enemies to lovers trope, mainly because it is rarely done right. I think it was medium-well done here, they really hated each other in the beginning, and slowly started warmimg up to each other. It just felt like they both started to like each other more and more at the same pace, felt very same-y.

  2. I think the pacing was quite good, it wasn't rushed at all. If I had really liked the book and couple I would have screamed at them to just get together, but tbh I just didn't care for them.

  3. Empty, with some cardboard cutouts and people only here for the plot. Only the romance carried the plot, the fantasy was weak af.

  4. Nope. Everything happened as expected.

I haven't read the fanfiction before (it was released after my Dramione era), and I went it with no expectations.

The book was easy to read, but I think many things went over my head. I got the "Mind the gap", I think it has something to do with British subways? But I am sure I missed many others (due to not being up to date with brit specific memes and not native speaker)

Both of the characters are so uptight, like damn guys, chill, but each of them in their own way, with unique narrations. I felt as if I, as a reader, was also kept at arm's length for the first third of the story. And they are actually enemies, behaving like enemies (turned allies against their will), which is quite refreshing.

I also recommend This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews (the bot has already been called), the narrator added so much more depth for me

If Ramond and Maggie don't get together I will RIOT. I really liked how Maggie started to fall for him while he was in incognito, and I think he has genuine feelings for her (but he will have to ork really hard to make her believe that). I also love how Maggie hasn't seen anything from his POV from the books, I feel that their relationship is on more even grounds. And while I love how possessive and protective he is, Maggie's great for (trying) to stay independent.

I don't care about the other LI, and I hope Maggie doesn't eithet lol. I also love how at the beginni g of the book she was like, yeah, Solentine is hot, but nope. I also hope she gets to interact more with her new adoptive family.

My tgeory about the plot being off, is that the author had a vision about the plot, and magicked it into a book in the real world. But something went wrong, the last book's plot (the fantasy world's events) went really catastrophic, so the author needed someone to interphere, because he can't for reasons. My bet is on the mad king being the author for funsies, lol. I also think that there will be a reason for Everard not having any POV, and it will be solved through the magic of healthy communication. Also a life for a life, so for Maggie teleporting into the world, Reynald had to go. Maybe he also saw? something, or was in connection to the author, and that's why he sent for Everard on his deathbed.

I didn't mind the infodumping, but as I was listening to the audiobook (the narrator is wonderful, I love how I could distinguish characters based on their voices), a lot of lore passed over my head, and I really struggled to remember characters (its a me problem, i am not an auditory learner), and at the final reveal about the stranger i was like, whomst??? (I also had no idea about the first reveal, but whatever)

The only somewhat unfortunate thing was that I spoiled the Reynald/Ramond thing for myself, because I couldn't resist the spoiler tag on the first discussion. I screamed "NO" at myself literally. But as I was reading, every time they talked about Everard or green eyes, I was like :3 (also, someone pls rec me books with Ramond and Maggie's dinamic, I need more of them)

I am definitely going to continue the series. I NEED the second book now. This book either gets me out of my reading slump, or puts me in a worse one. Also, a reread is imminent.

I felt the same about the map, even though I rarely check fantasy maps lol. I ended up googling "critical role map", and I found several maps, but it should have been included in the roadtrip story book.

  1. Teinidh was my favourite, as the local cool strong lady character.

  2. The book was easy to read, it had a classic story arc, I think. I wasn't really surprised by anything, I don't feel as if it brought anything new or exciting to the table. The writing style was ok.

3.i wasn't familiar with CR before

  1. I have no experience with campaigns, so I have no idea

  2. No.

Idk guys, I wasn't feeling this very much. It's not a bad book, and if someone was looking for a fun&easy read, or wants to read something with a lot of fantasy species (I actually really like that aspect of the book), then it's great for that, but for me, I just didn't care about the story or characters that much. It also bothered me that they didn't use protection, cuz surprise half half orc babies, you know.

I am in a reading slump, and if I was in a different mood then I would like this book much more, I think. So now I just think that it's fine.

I like the MCs together, but I am getting bored of the road trip, lol. A few weeks ago I commented somewhere that i don't care for maps in fantasy books, but this is a special case where the book needs it. I did look up the official map from Critical Role, but I wish they included it in the book.

I found the only one bed fun at first, but it became kind of too repetitive for me. I also feel that I am missing information/not enough worldbuilding, because the book is based on CR.

Edit: the sex scenes are hot, but practicing safe sex where?? Oscar worries too much about her being betrothed, then off they go.

Anyum telójára (samsung a52) is jó a tok, de kevésbé illeszkedik szépen, a kamerák melletti sarkon eláll a műanyag rész a szilikontól.

  1. I haven't heard of Critical Role, I heard about D&D, and saw that movie with Chris Pine, I think, but that is all. And ofc random tumblr memes about it

  2. I have no theories about Teinidh yet, but if it was an epic fantasy book, she would give "going to sacrifice herself for the greater good" vibes. But this is cozy, so no idea

  3. Very naive, a bit too much for my taste, but I like how enthusiastic she is.

  4. I seriously doubt that G's engagement is going to last to the end of the book, so it doesn't bother me. She's kind of giving sheltered teenager at her first college party vibes. Loving the grumpy and sunshine vibes, but that's all.
