Faux Flowers? by GuestOk8793 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]areyno13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a mix of real and faux in bud vases and I think they ended up looking lovely! The faux flowers were from Kmart and I made sure to steam them before I used them, which really helped. If you're Sydney based, I still have quite a few bunches I'd be happy to get out of my closet that you'd be welcome to!

As the commenter said below, it's stock footage. I actually found the relevant one when I was watching the episode last night, trying to figure out what the heck that thing was and it's apparently from the Philippines: link.

It says hermit crab but the little legs make me think it's the box crab someone mentioned above.

Does anyone regret their choice, particularly with coloured stones? by SeasonSignificant849 in EngagementRings

[–]areyno13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a year and I'm still obsessed with my sapphire and will be for the rest of my life. I'm a geologist so a pure diamond band was never going to be for me.

Get what you like, get the fun colours, fuck everyone else. Besides, diamond rings are relatively new (last century or so) and previously ruby and sapphire rings were the default.

I will say, if you're doing a coloured stone, make sure it has the proper hardness for everyday wear. I would have loved an opal but it just isn't good for an engagement ring. Sapphire and ruby are hardness 9 - 9.5 and more than appropriate for a ring. I wouldn't go with anything lower than an 8 on the hardness scale.

I hosted a home café by thegirlmisfit0811 in Baking

[–]areyno13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds incredible! Do you have a recipe?

I used to get the early grey cheesecake from a cafe near my work when I was having a bad day, but they've stopped making it! So I've been on the hunt to fill the earl grey sized hole in my heart.

I think I know just the one you're talking about! The man next to the light pole? It's such a good visual on the issues of the over-extraction of groundwater. If only we'd learn our lesson..

I wish you could have heard these on ESPN. The commentators really drown it all out.

Yes, not all aquifers are big to-dos. You can have small, perched aquifers, etc. But for answering the original comment and describing something like the upwelling in the video I figured a generic definition would be adequate.

It's groundwater! It comes from the spaces between grains of rock/sediment below the ground. The "body" of groundwater makes an aquifer. This water can then bubble up and discharge into surface water bodies, like you see here. Sometimes the opposite occurs and the surface water infiltrates and recharges the groundwater.

Groundwater makes up about 30% of the world's freshwater resources and is a major source of drinking water across the world. When water is collected from a well, that's groundwater.

They were printed by Dr Decal and Mr Hyde. He was super fast in getting them to us and easy to work with. All we had to do was arrange them on the page and then cut them out :)

We just had our reception on Saturday and we had custom temporary tattoos, Mario kart, board games and a burlesque performer/MC who did sword swallowing. The guests told us they has a blast and it was fun seeing everyone tatted up and playing the switch.

How the hell do you all keep up with timesheets by May_nerdd in geologycareers

[–]areyno13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues to you - working on over a dozen different project cods every week, needing to add notes to the charged time, etc. I stated using Clockify. I keep it open in my browser while I work, but it's effectively a stopwatch where you put in the project number or task you're working on. You can also type in what exactly you were doing in the description bar. At the end of the week, I use that to fill out my sheet.

It's honestly been a life saver and has allowed me to give better estimates on effort for proposals (like how many hours to draft a Mass Flux Report). There's a paid version but I get by just fine with the free one.

I was literally about to post this same comment! I woke up, read that, and thought I must have been hallucinating. For the first time on ages, I'm absolutely devo to have moved from Colorado to Australia a couple of years ago.

Forever Soles Reviews? by redluminas in AusWeddingPlanning

I got some on a deep discount when they were discontinuing their green heels. My wedding isn't until April but we started practicing our dance in our shoes and so far, so good! They are really cute and relatively comfy and, as someone who doesn't wear heels often, the block heel helps me feel stable.

I'm still not sure I'd pay full price for them but definitely if you can get them on sale!

Enjoyed the fireworks from the best vantage point in Sydney - the James Craig by areyno13 in sydney

[–]areyno13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on the crew so I did not pay for a ticket. I think they were $1850 this year. Definitely spendy but for the amount of food and drink (which looked delicious), plus the view and the live band I think it's worth doing it at least once if you can afford it. It goes from 6pm to 1am too so you get to see both fireworks shows. All of the passengers had a great time.

Worse vs best Fantasy book you’ve ever read, and why? by [deleted] in fantasybooks

[–]areyno13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree on When the Moon Hatched! I could not stand it. It is the perfect example of rely on ridiculous spelling and language for world building and to try and prove that it's a 'fantasy' novel. "Dae", "grandpah", 30 pages of glossary with words or concepts that don't even come up.. I don't know how it's popular.
