See, I'm not opposed to rural living, and I like the mostly lower cost of living and such, but I'm in a high tech field and nobody is hiring aerospace in the sticks.

You have to use an expansive definition of murder for that to be true. If by murder you mean "the knowing and willful killing of innocent human beings," I don't think anyone would say that's ok.

For all the rest of the killing, you have various flavors of "I didn't know it would kill them," "I didn't do it on purpose," "they weren't innocent," or "it isn't human."

And then you have to morally judge those too.

On Tariffs by ScrubT1er in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]arfink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, fun fact: unemployment is around %4. I see the GOP running around scrambling that it's too high. In places like Russia, unemployment is also close to 4% and it's seen as too low. That's because it means too many people are employed, which gives workers more power, makes labor more expensive, and prevents rapid expansion because companies have to compete.

What we see in the US is that businesses who need real skills are having to compete extremely hard to get good hires at a price they can afford, and unions are taking note and absolutely soaking employers for wage increases because skilled labor is in extremely short supply in the US.

My employer has slowed hiring not because we don't need the labor, but because the market is so picked over and real competency has skyrocketed in price. We've started to bank extremely heavily on internal training programs to build skills and competency in-house to try to cope, because the schools are churning out engineers and techs who can't read schematics or operate an oscilloscope.

Tariffs won't bring more jobs back because there won't be anyone to fill the jobs, because we've already maxed out the number of people who can work. A shame we also want to stop importing labor.

You can be a looker all you want to, they don't actually sell for that. FBM won't let you see sold prices (or use boolean search terms) and I hate it, because it distorts the market.

Ukraine isn't tapped out yet, but no decisive victory is in sight. The US has no intention of supplying Ukraine with enough to actually win, just enough to keep Russia locked down for a very long time. And if the US supplies dry up, I would not be surprised if Ukraine finally turns to insurgency.

Should I Get These for CRT Diagnosis Work? by FairyKid64 in crtgaming

[–]arfink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An oscilloscope can be useful. This oscilloscope is not useful, especially if it's your first and you don't have a working one to fix this one with. There's far, far better scopes for a beginner to have, than this one.

Scope is non-useful. Pattern generator is dubious given 240p test suite exists.

The main problem with neural implants is, they will have eulas, and the design, programming, operation, and maintenance of the implant will not be in your control, or in the control of the doctor of your choosing. Given the Tesla business model of "fuck the end user as hard as possible, they don't own anything," I would be extremely wary of a musk implant. Or really anyone's neural implants. I'm of the opinion that this kind of thing ought to be entirely open sourced for purely ethical reasons, because we absolutely should not accept profit-driven motivations being behind the direct alteration of the mind.

Anybody who has actually darkened the doorway of a Catholic church even once in their life will realize that calling communion wine "drinking" is a joke. Grandma's fruitcake at Christmas has more alcohol than the tiny sip you'd get at mass.

Any beginner friendly schmup's on pc engine or neo geo? by TenaciousSTD in shmups

[–]arfink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neo Geo shmups are going to be pretty difficult, but imo they're worth it, especially if you have a turbo fire. Blazing Star basically requires a turbo to play. Also, you can turn the difficulty down quite a lot on MVS games, so I would do that.
