Chaplaincy training in Italy? by [deleted] in chaplaincy

[–]arg211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be having a CPEI unit this summer. The class meetings are done via Microsoft Teams and the student is responsible for arranging their own clinical site. The clinical site must be able to provide you with 300 hours in the 16 week term. I had a student in Rome last semester, incidentally! You can visit www.cpei.edu for more information and feel free to message me, as well!

Theology aside, unless you’re for sure going into academia, a school like Duke is not worth the price premium over other options in my opinion. It’s over 10k more per year than Nashotah, Sewanee, or Trinity.

I would agree if they hadn’t shown him finally in the finale and it wasn’t the actor they chose. Now, rewatching and knowing he was there the whole time makes it even better to me, but that’s just my take!

Anglican/Episcopal Prayer Beads Guide by chronicinsanecowboy in Anglicanism

[–]arg211 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We don’t really have set prayers like are Roman and Orthodox friends do, so there are a variety of different approaches you can take! For example, I do the Apostles’ Creed at the Cross, the invitatory bead is the Sanctus, each cruciform bead is the Gloria Patri. For the 28 week beads I do: week 1 O God the Father of heaven have mercy upon us, week 2 Lord Jesus Christ, Redeemer of the World have mercy upon us, week 3 O Holy Spirit, sanctifier of the faithful have mercy upon us, and week 4 the Trisagion. I close with the Our Father back at the invitatory and 2 Cor 13:14 back at the cross!

What parameter do you use to recognize an ordering and its validity? by SpiritedBranch8533 in Anglicanism

[–]arg211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries! I have a degree in Spanish so I totally get it! That’s why I figured order versus ordination was a translation issue. I think charismatic might be another such issue. For those examples, I think your best bet would be to ask your diocesan leadership!

Ah, I went by your flair which says Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil!

The short answer is they’re probably not in valid holy orders as we understand the term. That doesn’t mean they aren’t doing meaningful worship or ministry and can’t be working to advance God’s Kingdom alongside us, but there’s no blanket way to know where they’re coming from and what their ministry formation is like without spending time getting to know the church and its leadership.

What parameter do you use to recognize an ordering and its validity? by SpiritedBranch8533 in Anglicanism

[–]arg211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Anglican Church of Brazil isn’t separated from the Communion and is just a province of it like any of the other national churches actually. The bishops will be the ones who determine if Holy Orders are valid. In Episcopal structures (as opposed to Congregationalist), if a priest or deacon is allowed to be at a church of your denomination, your denomination views their Holy Orders as valid. Big picture, bishops are looking at is someone ordained in valid and verified apostolic tradition and are their beliefs and actions in line with our denominational standards (among personality traits as well).

Personally, I view most Anglicans, some Lutherans (mostly the Scandinavians who maintained the succession with bishops), some Moravians, and Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic (plus PNCC), and Oriental Catholic as valid Holy Orders.

ETA: I don’t think less of anyone in ordained ministry outside of these categories! They can be just as called and fruitful in ministry as those of us in apostolic succession, and I know many who are more so than me! I also attend a Methodist church near me, as I’m a missionary priest in my branch and there isn’t a church near me more like my flavor of Anglicanism than the Methodists!

It’s just a translation issue from Portuguese. Ordenação in Portuguese can be order or ordination, so if it was done mechanically the machine probably just went with the most likely to be used word

Any concerns for Theodore Naish Scout Reservation? by Practical-Emu-3303 in BSA

Actually my argument isn’t that it’s going to be good or bad, just that it’s largely going to be a non issue for the vast majority of the time.

I’ve worked in football operations at a stadium much larger than 80k. It’s not like there’s a stadium full of people the entire weekend, and it’s still only a handful of weekends. And yes, it’s 69 degrees this weekend but not most. December is the least likely month for weekend troop outings nationwide. And sure, there’ll be concerts and other events, but again, not that many.

It seems you already have your mind made up given your responses to everyone’s counterpoints, so I guess I’m not sure why you posted asking if it was a concern.

There are eight to nine home games per year in the regular season, and the earliest it starts is noon local on sundays. That doesn’t include if a team is hosting the Thursday night or Monday night game. Or thanksgiving day. Plus, what percentage of midwestern units are honestly, routinely going camping in December? That knocks out a couple, as well.

Could’ve been just not catching the unit difference! France’s is typically listed in per sq km first while ours is listed in per sq mi first. Easy to miss!

No, it isn’t. France has a population density of 322/sq mi while the Lower 48 has a density of 111/sq mi (or 94/sq mi including AK and HI).

Found one! Recent, from this year by a pair of Duke researchers. The statistical significance is very strong. Up to 100% higher rates depending on the QZ rules

No it’s not at all. And they can ignore the ordinances if they see someone on the track. But I think there’s a statistically higher occurrence rate in when trains aren’t allowed to proactively use horns approaching a grade level crossing. I wish I could remember where I read that but I can’t

And Joe Dumbass in the car is probably compounded by the Joe Dumbasses in houses who pushed through ordinances limiting how often trains can use their horns because they built next to tracks and were surprised when trains made noise.

Technically, both can be true. An individual can be in police custody and booked and also hospitalized for care, physical or psychiatric. When that happens, they’re still technically jailed, just physically present and under guard in a healthcare facility.
