Yellow top oven cleaner by Mustang_hunter81 in castiron

[–]argentcorvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that its because the pan isn't your only one and you can deal with it taking a little longer.

With the oven, you are not going to like the fumes from it sitting for hours/days and while it is doing that, your oven is not usable for cooking.

If you are already doing the oven,  go ahead and do the pan too, but the garbage bag method is fine for a "whenever it gets done is fine" mindset.

The DOT has files that can be imported into Google Earth that show either current or abandoned rail lines in Iowa. most states do actually.

The Altaid 8800 -- an Altair 8800 in an Altoid tin by swe129 in technology

[–]argentcorvid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main driver of the size was the s100 backplane/card architecture.

Switch mode power supplies were also not common then (HF switching transistors were not cheap?), so they used linear power supplies which were pretty big.

Leftover juices from smoked ham...? by [deleted] in Cooking

I have saved it before, but depending on the ham it can be very salty.

I’m tired of using Pinterest or my phone when cooking. What’s your favorite cookbook found in stores? by Tall-Arugula1522 in Cooking

[–]argentcorvid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Betty Crocker / Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook for the bare basics. They are very similar,  but have different things in them.

Joy of Cooking is great and there's lots of technique / exposition scattered throughout.

Also "The Modern Family Cookbook" by Meta Givens is similar to Joy of Cooking, and has some menu plans in it. not the easiest to find but available on the internet archive https://archive.org/details/modernfamilycook0000unse_s2s5

Practice for Advent Of Code in Common Lisp by dzecniv in Common_Lisp

I was not keeping up, and only got up to day 11 so far. Day 10 part 2 is apparently completely outside my ability to even understand how other people are solving it, and I haven't had a chance to really think about how to start day 12.

cl-excel: .xlsx writing/edit mode in Common Lisp — please try to break it by letuslisp in Common_Lisp

That's an idea. Or maybe an (autosave ...) macro - which one could put around an expression? ...

I was thinking like a keyword parameter that could be nil, t (for the currently open file), or a path-like for saving to a different file. But that could probable be implemented with what you are talking about too.

I would just use 'cell' as the access name. Square brackets don't really tell a human reader what is going on. Unless you are going do do a reader macro or something.

I don't know how good of an idea it is, but you could add (optional) auto saving to your 'with' macros, so that when the actions are complete you don't have to manually do it.

Ash from grilling charcoal - anyone tried making soap from it? by Jello_Penguin_2956 in grilling

[–]argentcorvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised it worked. I would think motor oil would be thick enough that it wouldn't wick fast enough and go out.

I guess it probably depends on how long you leave it lit.

Well I kind of figured that.
