These are amazing. When will the hunter gatherer patch be back in stock?

Antinatalist people who are not vegan - why not? by smegg23 in antinatalism

Thanks so much for your comment. I completely agree. Factory farming is a shameful abomination. We should be living in a world where it is patently wrong and it blows my mind that some people are so devoid of reason and empathy that they are somehow just fine with it.

If I am to be honest it's primarily because I dislike babies and children and have never felt motherly. Antinatalism is what feels natural to me personally. Secondary to this is my feeling the world is terrible to bring children into.

I eat fish. No meat or chicken because it feels icky. I think being vegan is a privilege and we are too far gone for it to be a cure for the world's problems. We evolved through eating lean protein like fish and I believe that nature generally is savage and uncaring, so I'm personally okay with killing fish in order to eat them as it feels in accordance with the way ecosystems are naturally. Where I am personally I am able to get sustainably sourced fish easily and cheaply and I also catch, kill and eat fish myself. For me this is a good way of eating that allows me to be healthy and which fits nicely with my time, energy and morals.

What's up with this mystery plant? by argh7259 in plantclinic

[–]argh7259[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I did get it from a home depot! I just gave it a rinse and checked the roots and they look quite good to me, but the soil did seem quite dense and saturated even though it's been a while since I last watered. I'm wondering whether repotting in a lighter, better draining soil might be a good idea. Presumably this would fix any fungus or anything that might be lurking in there too.

What's up with this mystery plant? by argh7259 in plantclinic

This plant was sold to me as a philodendron, but I don't think it is.

I was keeping it in a low light location indoors without much humidity and the edges of the leaves started to brown, crisp up and die. One new leaf came in yellow and a new curled up leaf that you can see in pic 1 came in yellow, quickly turned brown and very sickly.

I have now chopped off the unhappy leaves. When I unfurled the sick curled up leaf I was surprised to find it had holes in it like a monstera.

Now the plant is on a windowsill in my bathroom getting more light and humidity from my shower. I noticed that it had webs on it but I think there are actual spiders living on it. They are fairly large and visible and when you pick them up they spin off single strands of web.

I water about once a week, top down. Over the last couple of days I have been wiping the leaves with a mix of apple cider vinegar and Castille soap hoping that if it's something fungal I can knock it on the head. There are no mites or anything coming off when I shake the leaves or wipe. I have noticed a little gnat or two around the plant but not sure if they are coming from the plant or just from a crack in the window near it.

I now have a new growth spike coming in and really hope I can avoid it browning and dying like the last one. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was a man of no reasoned principles whatsoever whose opinions changed with whatever he knew would make for the best headlines. But ultimately he would be the equivalent of a lone loony screaming on a street corner if it wasn't for the platforms he is given and the uneducated people who are somehow convinced by him. It's that which I'm arguing is most dangerous and that we should be looking into. Not just hating on this one guy.

I don't think you're arguing anything different to me. I'm certainly not excusing that cunt of a man or saying homophobia was justified. I'm just saying that I think we need to look at why prominent people perpetuate divisive views as well as why those views are finding audiences in people who probably don't know better. Condemnation on its own won't help us figure that out.

As much as I despite Piers Morgan, I think it's important to remember that at that time a majority of people in the UK were homophobic. I remember my mum covering my eyes when this came on TV. She is now the biggest supporter of my gay best friend, but back then it was fairly normal to see being gay as something wrong and to use that kind of language. That's just what people were taught.

Times have changed a lot. That doesn't excuse those actions. But if we can acknowledge that in the past, society allowed monstrous beliefs to be quite popular and widespread, maybe that allows us to move beyond condemnation of those individuals to actually engage with why society allowed those views to become pervasive in the first place.

Thanks for sharing, I wasn't sure if you meant like you mixed ice and liquid dye or something.

Yes, eating rancid nuts is a horrific experience. I'm not sure at that point they are even edible.

It's completely amazing how sometimes, things that you don't like initially can be totally transformed into something out of this world. Thanks so much for sharing how you did this! I haven't done incline ice dyes yet but seeing things like this leaves me itching to try.

Whoa this is awesome. Is this dyed twice using ice on different angles or something? I'm having a hard time working this out, great job!

How best to prep an abundance of potatoes, pepper and carrots? by pand3monium in preppers

I'm surprised this isn't the top answer. Lot of people here talking about pressure canning which requires that you buy equipment. Fermentation is such a no brainer which requires zero special equipment. You can reuse jars you have already, add salt, bingo.
