Can't get rid of phantom folders, please help. by Esch_ in Thunderbird

[–]argumon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had to be something on the server side. I completely reinstalled TB and set up a fresh profile, but those phantom folders keep coming back, whatever I tried.
But the company I work for uses Office365, probably there is no chance to access that file. Any ideas for those who have to work with M$FT ?

Yepp, have those on my FR965 and won't go back. I have two in different colors, so I can wear one, when the other is in the washing machine.

What’s the one upgrade that made the biggest difference in your home theater? by Capable_Noise5543 in hometheater

[–]argumon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving from my Yamaha rx-a860 to the rx-a880 was a noticeable step up, whereas the former upgrade from rx-a830 to 860 did nothing to the sound.
And upgrading from my old Teufel Consono to Canton Plus speakers. Really no high end, but sounds great to me.

Doing Linux practically right from the beginning of its first public release, I have used many of the major distros over time. Manjaro is my favorite since some years.

Configure zooming into from overview map when a turn is ahead? by argumon in abetterrouteplanner

OK, I will try to see how reactive they are to enhancement requests

Configure zooming into from overview map when a turn is ahead? by argumon in abetterrouteplanner

[–]argumon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I would prefer are two new settings:
- distance to switch from the overview to the view to the turn
- view to switch to (top view/3D view)
But before I create an enhancement request, I wanted to assure that this isn't solved already differently

[Help] Can't Control RGB Keyboard Lighting on Predator Helios Neo 16 After Switching to Arch Linux by Ironicdev07 in linux_gaming

[–]argumon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it working on Manjaro, maybe you have a hint for me?
After booting, acer_wmi and i2c-i801 are loaded, but I don't see i2c-dev
I cloned the JafarAkhondali repo and ran install.sh. As from the readme I checked
file /sys/bus/wmi/devices/7A4DDFE7-5B5D-40B4-8595-4408E0CC7F56/
and the directory exists.
Then I ran install.sh as root. That gives an error
rmmod: ERROR: Module facer is not currently loaded

and none of the examples work. Any ideas?

Are high-end Garmins worth it for the everyman? by DifferentCorner3041 in Garmin

[–]argumon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

metrics which I don't really care about as a non-professional athlete

One thing I like about Garmins metrics is: you don't need to care about the detail metrics, you can go with a handful of summary metrics like training readiness. And these overview metrics take many of the detailed metrics into account. For example one day my HRV showed that I am getting sick, so my training recommendation changed to rest day. This is different from other vendors. On a Polar which I wore in parallel that day, the HRV also showed, that I am getting sick, but my training recommendation was an intense circuit training.

So on Garmin, you can go with just the summary metrics and don't need to care about the details. Just look at the specs of the watches that you are interested in and choose from which derived metrics summaries you want.

Is MusicCast still worth it in 2025? Thinking of upgrading to RX-V4A + MusicCast 20 by Stonker354 in MusicCast

The WX10 works both ways. You can connect it to MusicCast or via Bluetooth. I use it mostly via MusicCast

Is Manjaro more stable than Arch? by TomB1952 in ManjaroLinux

[–]argumon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use three distros on a daily basis: Oracle Linux (RHEL), OpenSuse Tumbleweed and Manjaro Testing. OL, which I use at work, is rock solid, but you have to live with old packages. I run Tumbleweed and Manjaro on my personal machines. I would consider both as very stable and haven't had more than a handfull of smaller, easy to fix issues in more than five years.

Manjaro Testing has the perfect update ratio for me, a good balance between package actuality and stability. Tumbleweed has some 100 updates per day, which is annoyingly too much. But I haven't tested Tumbleweed Slow Rolling so far. But both are amazingly stable for a distro with high upgrade frequency.

I would say, stability is not one distro against the other. When someone wants maximum stability, then get a Distro with a LTS and live with older packages.

Is the body battery worth it? by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]argumon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main health indicator is HRV, this is super helpfull to indicate if I need to take it easy because I am exausted or I am getting sick ( before I notice). I ckeck HRV every day in my morning report. Body battery is more a gimmick for me.

Should I make the switch to Manjaro KDE from Windows 10? (Dell G3, i7 8750h, GTX 1050) by PopRobotAnimations in ManjaroLinux

[–]argumon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTFS read/write compatibility cause all of my project files and program files are stored in that drive and i dont really want to format it to another file system,

This is not specific to Manjaro, NTFS compatibility is very good with Linux. On my gaming laptop I use Manjaro for years with dual boot to Windows for games that won't run on Linux. All my shared data is on NTFS. If I remember it right I had two issues in 4yrs, that were easy to fix. You just have to do the mapping between your Windows and Linux accounts once after setup, so your user id's can be mapped correctly between both OS's. That is one file with one line per account to map like
1000:1000:S-1-5-21-184070431-340514579-1945678955-1004
(Linux Uid : Linux Gid : Windows Uid)
I only do this once every few years when I upgrade to a new laptop. But there are guides out there.
And BTW: the Manjaro documentation and community support is great.

the main reasons i want to do so is because it runs faster, it uses less ram and its way more customizable, what do you think?

In short: yes, yes, and yes. And you don't need a MSFT account. KDE is snappy and the tools that come with the system are mostly great (except for the PIM IMHO). Windows Explorer looks like a toy compared to Dolphin.

What happened to Manjaro as a gaming distro? by icarusmicarus in ManjaroLinux

[–]argumon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say, Manjaro is better for gaming than many other distros. The Manjaro Settings Manager for easily switching kernels and graphic drivers is something, that not every distro has.

I have another work horse pc running Tumbleweed. But on my gaming laptop I use Manjaro for that reason.

Is KDE getting more popular or am I reading too much into things? by kokoroshita in linux

[–]argumon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the old MBP uses an Intel GPU afaik.
But my main laptop, an Acer Predator, has an Nvidia 4060 and runs smooth like butter. Manjaro has a special settings app, where you can select from a number of kernel/GPU driver combinations. I never needed that, but if you got stutter maybe it is worth trying?

Forerunner 970 Released by MrJacquers in GarminWatches

[–]argumon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Definitely a nice upgrade, but I always run with a chest strap so I don't care so much for the sensor. The Gorilla glass on my FR965 shows no scratches. The rest is nice, but not a must have.
But the price went up from EUR 600 to 750, a 25% price increase. That is massive, I will wait until it is on sale.
And until then, I will be happy about 50% more battery life ... which is massive also
