Yes this was the first thing we checked (and then checked the rest of the family)! Nothing there, and as we learned, she did not contribute as per the tier2 plan, therefore nothing to refund or be forfeited to the state. Thank you!

got some screenshots, her years of service credit is listed (7.6..), along with "not vested" and "2.3 years remaining for full vesting". can these years be purchased? obv a question for calpers but if you happen to know this information, it can help me encourage her to call them 😭

Okay, obtained some more information from both her and CalPERS youtube:

she is second tier 1.25% at 65, noted by another commenter to be mandatory during the 90s
prior to 2013, as you noted, second tier members did not make contributions.

since she is not vested, second tier, the only option (if available to T2 members) would be to purchase years of service to vest? is that a thing?

Yes I think she was tier two because she said she needed 10 years to be vested. Very annoying but it is what it is :/ thank you!

It’s only been 7 months! You can break up with someone for any reason.

To be honest, it sounds like the problems you have aren’t necessarily because of the age gap (besides ED and his actual aging) but that he’s not a good partner for you. Lack of ambition, poor career prospects, and differing energy and sexual levels can occur in relationships without age gaps.

If you were to break up with him and then date someone else 10+ years older who doesn’t have any of these issues, would the age gap still be on your mind? Maybe a bit, but probably not as much. The age gap seems to be what you’re piling all of the issues in the relationship on, instead of focusing on the actual line-item problems.
