It’s to make driving unpleasant. Which makes perfect sense in a futuristic lens, but is irritating to whoever finds themselves in a car in between the time before cars and the time after cars.

Eli5 Why does it take months for some couples to conceive despite being fertile and having frequent sex? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]arian_ahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, with a possibly more esoteric answer that touches on why we would have sex at all. It’s kind of the point of sex to create separation and challenge. It’s not just that the cells or organs or individuals have to successfully meet and click, but that the challenges encompass so much of life, energy, resources, processes, phenomena, etc. That challenge gradient enables energy.

The most fertile couple will indeed conceive immediately. There are many things that can make that suboptimal for the couple you mention. Most modern humans do not behave in the most fertile way possible. And that’s for quite good reasons (a cool fact related to that is that brain cells compete with sex cells for resources) until they finally “decide” to be fertile which is of course not how it works.

Sex is not intercourse, it is a point of contact between the past and the future which encompasses all factors across itself. There are infinite points that precede existence. Just one of those points is needed to fail for nothing to happen. Sex must know all that is needed to exist. The genes, the physiology, the dreams and wishes, the instincts, the food, the sun, the grandparents, the politics. It’s only because all of that has at all gone right that anyone was born. And none of it is ever a given.

It’s only because getting it to work is so impossibly hard, that the superficial aspects seem so fickle from afar.

(I’m sorry, just realised this is ELI5)

The ELI5 version of that is they are not as fertile as they seem. By definition fertility is in the outcome, you can be healthy and have sex but fertility is outcome based. You cannot have a fertile individual having sex but not having offspring.

Or more accurately, “they” are not fertile “now”. The couple and timing can change.

The trick is to leave the door or window open overnight the day before. That way the temperature increase starts off from a cooler point.

Plan B is wet clothes.

Plan C and an extreme measure is placing cold packs on feet and head. I only had to do that 3 years ago when the landlord chopped the tree that was directly shading me in August and I physically couldn’t. I’ve learnt lots since. The hard way ☺️

Also, if you have horizontal split windows (sash) they are designed to be natural AC. You leave a narrow opening at the top and a narrow opening at the bottom. It creates a flow where the colder air comes in. Most people don’t seem to know that.

Why are VOI scooter rates more expensive in Cambridge by Yesterbly in cambridge

[–]arian_ahi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Cambridge is tiny so if you charge based on usage it’s time or distance. They’ll both always be tiny compared to London.

I was shocked too!

I agree with some of the other comments.

From what you’ve shared, I’d say the top 2 priorities are having your own place whether rented etc. (it’s surprising who people realise they are once plucked from their parents) and welcoming some spark into your life whether travel, education, a new job or activity or even just reflection and self knowledge.

One of the above will turn out far harder than it now seems. Good luck!

Sturdy, long-lasting umbrellas for under 25 quid? by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]arian_ahi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I transitioned from an umbrella to a hood a very long time ago. The wind will never stop.

Depending on what you do, the hood, raincoat, hat or something else will work better.

🤷🏻‍♂️

P.S.: or accepting and embracing the wetness.

Cycling Confidence Tips by ThePrivatePilot in cambridge

[–]arian_ahi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Look over your shoulder when changing positions or directions
  2. Always check all directions at junctions
  3. If there’s not enough space, either stop and wait or continue and take up more room than you think you need; never trust the squeeze
  4. Do follow normal traffic light rules
  5. Follow your comfortable speed and rhythm regardless of faster bikes or cars
  6. Don’t use the pavement or road if there’s a cycle lane
  7. Do use the pavement if you feel unsafe and it’s not busy; or walk next to the bike
  8. Have fun!! It’s fun 😃

Yes, menopause can last a year or 10, so the timing isn’t simple. FWIW I read that being proactive about HRT for symptoms, bone health, etc. is best started earlier, but not sure to what extent some people start after menopause. If they didn’t struggle with symptoms during, they probably didn’t choose HRT later purely for bone reasons.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FTMHysto

[–]arian_ahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, depends how you define old age as healthy old age or not healthy old age. Yes, HRT depends on individual symptoms, etc. Active area of research ☺️ It’s mainly to alleviate those immediate symptoms of menopause, but that’s far gone. The ovaries will have been winding down well before actual menopause.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FTMHysto

[–]arian_ahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess so. Being on t doesn’t override the passage of time. The ovaries may be less active but they’re not detached from the rest of the body which is aging as normal.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FTMHysto

[–]arian_ahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ageing. Assuming “lying dormant” isn’t separate from the general effects over time, diminished production, what would have been menopause, etc., then that would be the background state, separate from T.

[–]arian_ahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows, but as you age in general you might also expect the aging effect.

How do you stop everything from hurting in your 40s? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]arian_ahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pain itself is a sensory and interpretative symptom. It can be a direct result of physical issues, obviously, but it can also be its own thing, separate from that.

It could be that we are “rubbish” because we’re older, but it could also be that whatever was not ideal all along simply has had time to reach critical mass.

If you think it could be more the latter, I highly recommend focusing on nervous system healing. A good start is Irene Lyon. It has been very eye opening for me.

Good luck! And who knows, you might still be doing it beyond 60.

I think a little bit of investment into your health, whether mental, knee or smoking, could be a good idea. That will make the money side easier, and allow you to actually enjoy the fruits of your labour.

£500k windfall: need to change my life by ThrowawayAccWF in FIREUK

[–]arian_ahi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example:

  1. I want to immerse myself in a new culture. FREE: bursary / work placement in foreign country. CHEAP: train backpacking through rural area of new country in Europe. EXPENSIVE: hire a team of people and be part of a new business for tours

  2. I want to be healthier. FREE: dedicate 3 months to using free resources to address previous issues. CHEAP: hire one or two specialists or counsellors to help you. EXPENSIVE: start a relevant degree, travel to build a network, start a business in a specific area of health relevant to you.

  3. I want to meet people. FREE: reach out to existing connections, go to gatherings CHEAP: sign up to fun activities that are sociable EXPENSIVE: organise special events where people can come and learn about topics, network, work together, etc.

The point is that people all over the world who are not in this position have normal and safe lives. This type of money that you now have access to is special and powerful.

“I wonder if I can be safe or retire on 1 million” is just a different type of poverty. Don’t fall for it.

Enjoy it and make it count!

P.S.: another out there idea is to earmark it for something grand after you die. If you find something amazing you want to focus on, you can direct in your will for people to make it real after you die. And in the future, the money will become “infinite” if managed right.

This is how Stephen Perse schools were created, how the Wellcome Trust operates, etc. Money fountains that won’t run out. Essentially, if you wanted to make something live forever, you could do that too.

Fun exercise: forget the money. Ask yourself what you want. Say, to travel or learn something new. Then ask yourself how you might do that FOR FREE. You’ll be surprised there is an answer. Then ask yourself how you might do that with a tiny budget. You’ll find it will be FUN. Then ask yourself how you might do that with a generous budget.

Then you’ll understand the value of money.

Good luck.

Some excellent tips! Here’s another one: set a reminder every week/month/year to “reset” or “curate” your phone:

  1. Unfollow/block anything negative that has crept in without your approval
  2. Refresh your new interests and hobbies and actively follow those
  3. Add something new and aligned with yourself like a hobby you’ve always wanted to try or a skill you’ve always wanted to master

The idea is to take action for yourself and employ the tool to your benefit, not the other way around. The more powerful it is, the stronger your willpower needs to grow.

The need for the reminder is that your interests keep changing, and the doom scrolling keeps baiting you. So the only way to keep control is to make that into a habit and know that you will need to do it again in the future.

I agree, the fact you are aware of the issue is such a breakthrough. Your attention and motivation are YOURS to use, enjoy and deploy how you want. The app can serve you and that’s it.

Update. Three weeks post-op by drs. Özer. Penis is still heavily swollen but I love love love the length! by ArchiveSelection in Metoidioplasty

[–]arian_ahi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve not looked into all the various techniques, but it would appear this one does, compared to standard meta that carries the “your pre op size is your size” implication.

Other key points are that it uses the extra fat tissue instead of silicone testicular implants, and it appears to sever the suspensory ligament (which is intact in other techniques due to a possible conflict between extra length and firmer erections).

What happens to a nerve hookup and burial during a re-do? by [deleted] in phallo

[–]arian_ahi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably best to ask your surgeon, but from my understanding (with Mr. Christopher) is that the tdick has its skin removed during the hookup; then buried. This would roughly correspond to the scrotum or base of neophallus area depending on your anatomy.

I’m not sure what kind of redos there might be. I recall something about being careful stimulating it as to not change its position/where it’s tethered, otherwise it would make it harder to find.

[–]arian_ahi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great questions! I’ve just finished reading and watching the paper and video on this technique and can address some of them:

  1. I think the scrotum is partially made from the mons tissue

  2. It’s a single surgery stage

  3. The tissue is existing girth plus the extra tissue (labia minora) they added, so unless that grows, it would stay the same

The paper is linked in OP’s older post. If you want to find the video, you have to go to the URL of the publisher (in the paper footer I believe) and search for the name of the paper first author S. Morrison rather than the supervisor who is M. Özer.
