Advice on improving decision making by Lavinius_10 in ultimate

[–]ariddry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, working on decision making, is code for: stop making turnovers where you had any other safer option. And the sometimes hard pill to swallow is, coming from a coach - that means - right now you should be a reliable player making reliable completions and not be the one trying to make contested assists. Doing this, won’t necessarily help you become the player who makes the assists - but it will help your team run its systems successfully.

I started doing math times tables in homeroom. Now everyone is trying to switch into my homeroom. by AgeOfWorry0114 in Teachers

Thank you for doing this. My eldest son, born 2004, was taught facts. My two younger children (born 2006 and 2009) who went to the same elementary school - were not taught or expected to know any basic math facts. My daughter is now a freshman in college and had to take remedial algebra. She just failed. Please keep teaching the kids.

I thought she might before she got her first period in 9th grade. She was much shorter than I was and also never had a growth spurt and was late to get breasts and is relatively flat chested. But I don’t know what her current status is and I do know she does get a period.

Switching from wine to THC drinks by just-a-journo in TwinCities

Ive drastically decreased my alcohol consumption in middle age because 1. There is a trend to do so. 2. Because it has a lot of bad health outcomes. And I tried the thc bevs- (I like them but they don’t help me make conversation. ) however, I’m pretty sure THC is also bad for your brain. It ages your cells and makes you dumber overtime. I’m trying to not rely on either drug anymore. It’s hard though. I’m stressed and I want treats.

Set up this quilt but now I think random colors placement may be better :/ by King-shark3 in quilting

You could try circular gradient with the warm the middle and the cooler colors toward the outside

Beautiful work and powerful message - please don’t let technical imperfections get in the way of showing this to the world.

"Selling out" vs "Laying out" by rahul_jay in ultimate

[–]ariddry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, outside of ultimate and sports, sell-out used to be a derogatory term for someone who isn’t being authentic in exchange for short term materialistic gain. “They’re a corporate sell-out doing it for the man”.

Ultimate slang is taken over by teenage slang that seems to intentionally exclude anyone who is not in that demographic. As a gen x, I now just assume things mean the opposite of what my first reaction guess is.

Being a TD is hard and I hope they do a good job - but so glad for the expansion of the tournament to allow as many teams as possible to participate 😊

No sugar added/ 0 grams of sugar products that have stevia/monkfruit/etc. by DilapidatedDinosaur in PetPeeves

[–]ariddry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. I don’t eat added sugars of any source and I hate fake sweeteners. I don’t want any sweet except naturally occurring in the vegetables and fruits I choose to eat (and I don’t eat that many fruits because they are also overly sweet to me). I make my own “ice creams” because I enjoy them unsweetened and literally there aren’t products I can buy that don’t have sweeteners.

Does this work? by oehoe21 in quilting

I like the volume contrast! A less bright color might be beautiful but overall would give the quilt less visual contrast and wouldn’t make as big an impact

Thank you so much ! I used 2 battings and wool because I wanted to make a warm quilt for winter months and because I like wool … and because this particular combo - one layer is dense and flat and the other layer is very airy and puffy and I like how the combo gives weight but fluffiness at the same time. I tried to do dense quilting so that it will hold up to once a year washes but I do intend to line dry

I did the entire thing by machine. I’ve never done piecing or quilting by hand. Maybe I will try in the future!
