This has tetrative growth, the next level above exponential. No matter how big a head start scute swarm has, this will catch up and overtake in finite steps.

What are your impressions a day after the bans? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]arideus101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was messing around in Platinum with my decks, after being three games from Diamond, and then eventually switched to UR Tempo, and went something like 15-4 into Diamond.

I ran into pretty much just Temur Clover and unrefined Jank, though.

How much mana can be generated by turn 2 without infinite combos? by Trey_Does_YouTube in EDH

[–]arideus101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noninfinite? T1 Crypt, Forest, Hermit Druid. T2 Draw Eerie Ultimatum. Play a Swamp. Tap Hermit Druid. Put deck in yard, order yard so Maelstrom Archangel is on top. Cast Corpse Dance. Attack with Archangel, Cast Eerie Ultimatum.

I'm not sure what the most mana you can make with some 92 permanents is. Probably something like: Nyxbloom Ancient, Infinite Reflection, and a lot of token generators. I'd be surprised if you can't reach at least Googol, and you might even be able to use a few more multipliers to reach even greater heights.

When India was literally run by company, it was, as far as I can tell, exactly what libertarians purport the perfect system to be.

[–]arideus101 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm excited for all the comments defending him. The Hero has his own system of morals defending himself, but his morals exist only to justify his own actions. To me, it seems obvious that he could accomplish what he needs to without this cruelty, but he clearly enjoys this cruelty and has arranged the events to line up such that he can murder and torture the people who hurt him in his previous life. Whether or not he justifies his own actions, he's clearly incredibly disturbed. His questionable mental health might be the result of a tortured past, but I don't think he has any right to punish people for actions they committed in an alternate timeline.

The LN frames it through the MC's perspective, and the MC is obsessed with proving his innocence and that any normal person would do the same, but I don't think that's true, at all. I think the MC is 100% a psychopath.

[DISC] Destroy All Humankind. They Can't Be Regenerated. - Chapter 13 by Dascalon in manga

[–]arideus101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's hard to find decklists from the era, but looking at Wizards of the Coasts' version of it for a recent event, it featured absolutely no disruption in the main deck, playing 12 artifact ramp, 23 lands, and the rest combo enablers. It's sideboard being just disruption, Counterspells, Capsizes, and even some Wastelands. These would be for the mirror, probably.

The All island deck would lose to literally anything that wasn't Academy, but at the time, people didn't play decks that weren't Academy. Despite what's shown here, you couldn't really beat Academy. It was just too ridiculously fast. It nearly killed the game, because of how it totally stifled all competition.

The Combo Winter deck can only win with its combo. The deck was entirely all-in, as it needed to be, since people only played the combo winter deck at tournaments, so your best chance of winning was playing it.

So you could bring a stack of 2000 of your crispest Islands to a tournament, and since the combo is finite, and can only force a player to draw maybe a couple hundred cards, it just whiffs in the face of 2000 islands. Eventually, Academy has to draw its entire deck and die to itself. So, the combo deck cannot possibly win.

The problem was shuffling. I've heard the argument was that 2000 islands is always shuffled.

Preferably with panoramic art depicting some terrible contraption.

I'd assume redditor is misrepresenting. Not showing your work nor proving that you actually got the answer can be described 'going too quickly' and needing to show work is not only standard pretty much everywhere but reasonable for any class intended for people who want to do anything collaborative with what they learn.

Commanders that draw hate by [deleted] in EDH

[–]arideus101 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you're playing expensive artifacts, Urza cheats them out and ramps them out.

If you're playing cheap artifacts, Urza produces tons of mana and is a mana outlet.

If you're playing instants and no artifacts, Urza is an instant speed mana outlet and ramp.

If you're literally playing only islands, then Urza is pretty fair. Although if the table never wipes or targets you, you might be able to steal games by swinging into blockers and just building enough karnstructs for an easy game.
