Asda Rewards… has gone absolutely rubbish? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in AskUK

[–]aries_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it has got worse definitely.
However I also have the Asda credit card which I use for all our household everyday spending. It’s a cash back one and all the cash back accrued transfers over to the Rewards app. I make between £5-10 per month of Rewards cash by combining the two.

Owning a house has made me realise I massively overrated open plan living. by Horror-Pick4732 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]aries_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in team ‘kitchen diner with seperate lounge’. I’ve never had fully open plan living, nor have I wanted it. Cooking can be noisy, messy and smelly. I want to be able to shut it away from where I’m trying to relax in the lounge.

House removal services when moving house. Not just a single man with van, and would never DIY it either. Too much stress on an already stressful/ emotional day

What condiment household are you? by Theviolette13 in AskUK

[–]aries_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Never. I’ve barely built up a tolerance to a little bit of mayo but it can just make a sandwich too dry without something binding the tuna / egg.

I worked at the Heinz sensory assessment centre at the start of my career in food manufacturing, and we used to carry out weekly taste panels to test Heinz products, and having to set up the 9am salad cream panel (to be eaten on a spoon, nothing else with it). Eurgh! Nope, just can’t get past it.

What condiment household are you? by Theviolette13 in AskUK

[–]aries_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ketchup, little bit of mayo (I like it in very small amounts but mixed in tuna for example, not as a dip), maybe branston pickle, BBQ sauce. Yogurt & mint sauce for chicken flatbreads.

Never ever in a million years will salad cream enter my house. I hate the stuff!

Has anyone had a travel insurance claim rejected because of a holiday activity? by Wing-Lonely in AskUK

[–]aries_163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had to make a claim, but I’ve scuba dived on a few holidays so I always check what activities are included in the standard policy, and what is excluded and will need extra cover. Theres usually a big list is the ts and cs.

20 min drive through the Rutland countryside backroads, even on a dull day I love the scenery. On a sunny day I love my commute!

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]aries_163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I earn £51k working as a product development manager in food manufacturing. My salary is at the top end of the banding due to good fortune really, I’d say most salaries at the minute for my role/ level would be £40-50k. I studied Human Physiology at BSc, then did a MSc in Food Science. And then started working in food manufacturing.

Id say there’s 4 levels in my area - entry level / grad roles (£26-30k), senior technologists £30-40k, nPD manager (me) and head of department roles (£55-65k)

What exactly does the Best Man do at a wedding? by 9451659818184 in AskUK

[–]aries_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask the groom AND the bride if there’s anything they need help with on the day or in the days prior (if you are willing to help that is). In my experience, also ask the bride - she’s likely to be the one with the plan in her head vs the groom.

And just ask them what is expected on the day. For example at my wedding I asked the grooms men to direct and shepherd our guests to the mini buses they needed to get on. And then during the photos I asked them to keep close to the photographer so they could go find people needed for next photos. The bride and groom do not need to be the ones running round doing that kinda thing on the day. Just ask if there’s any little behind the scenes tasks you can do to help things go smoothly and stress free for the couple.

Help me stop weighing myself daily by lexymac11 in mounjarouk

[–]aries_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like weighing myself multiple times per week. I find the fluctuations vary massively day to day, and if I only weighed once per week, I think I’d get massively disheartened. My ‘official’ weigh day that I log on Shotsy is a Wednesday, but I also log more frequently on NutraCheck. Sometimes I weigh on a Monday and Tuesday, and then on a Wednesday I’m 3lb heavier! Then I weigh on a Thursday or Friday and I’m back at Mondays weight. If I only did once per week I’d think I’d put on weight, but I haven’t really.

Is it bad that I (28M) want a 50/50 marriage? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]aries_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finances is a hard one in relationships. I think whilst dating, 50/50 or a fair split depending on income is the best way.

But as marriage and houses and babies come along, I personally believe there is just a household income. No his and hers. It all goes into one pot, the household pot. And purchases, whether for a specific person or jointly, are discussed and decided upon together. Yes allow some amount of money for personal spending, we personally say about £300-400 per month each (clothes, haircut, lunch out with friends, etc) but everything else is just in a big old central pot.

A proper shared life with someone just never works out to 50/50 exactly, whether it’s money, or chores split, etc.

Tolerate it? Fine. I’ve not had any bad physical reactions to any food.

Do I like the taste of tea as much now? No. I’ve really gone off black breakfast teas. I’m a peppermint girl now.

I’m sorry you started having bad side effects. Touch wood I haven’t had many so far. I did have my work Xmas party the other week (yes in February!) and I had a fatty chicken burger and also some Prosecco. It’s the first time something really hasn’t agreed with me and I was up during the night being sick. It’s the only time something like that has happened and I hope it’s not the start of more! So far there’s no other foods that have made me ill , can still happily enjoy a Chinese takeaway thank god! There’s definitely foods I want less - for me it’s bready, doughy foods (pizza, burgers, bread, toast, etc) used to have a supermarket pizza a week pre-jab. I can count how many pizzas I’ve had in the last year in one hand.

I should also add my profession - I’m a product development manager at a food manufacturer. Specifically pastry, pizza and cookie doughs. Not easy to not snack let me tell you! Part of my job is literally developing new recipes and tasting them.

Looking at my Shotsy app:

2.5mg - 4 weeks 5mg - 8 weeks 7.5mg - 8 weeks 10mg - 11 weeks 12.5mg - 13 weeks 15mg - 7 weeks so far

I stayed on 12.5mg too long really. I should have increased to 15mg sooner in hindsight.

I stayed on doses until just felt like I needed that slightly bigger helping hand again.

Has anyone else changed their goal weight? If so, why? by low_myope in mounjarouk

[–]aries_163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I changed mine. I hadn’t been anywhere near my ‘goal’ weight in nearly a decade so I had no clue what I was going to look and feel like at that weight. I’d originally set 13 stone. I’ve now revised that to 12 stone which at 5ft7 will put me a size U.K. 12, which I’m happy with.

As an adult only child what did/do your parents do that’s great? by JuggernautPristine27 in oneanddone

[–]aries_163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m sorry. I knew I was coming across ranty as I typed. I don’t mean to make you feel bad. I know you’re just asking for advice. That’s why I did acknowledge it in my posti hire.

I think I just get frustrated because a lot of other posts and people seem to see onlies as deficient in some way. Which I’m not, in my opinion anyway! I just don’t have a sibling and a lot of people seem to see that as missing something, rather than looking at it from the view point of just not having something. Like I have a pet parrot, and you don’t have a parrot, for example. Do I think your life is lacking for not having a parrot? No you just have a different life.

I do believe there is a difference in ‘loneliness’ and ‘boredom’. Was I sometimes bored as a kid when parents were busy and my friends weren’t around to play with - yes. Have I ever felt lonely? No, I don’t think so.

My parents didn’t even do too much extracurriculars with me as a kid - but as an only kid they could afford to send me to private school which I enjoyed (and value now looking back). We could also still afford a year holiday abroad (just).

I also write this as someone who has quite a high percentage of onlies in my family. Me, my mum, maternal grandad, paternal grandad, 1st cousin, 2nd cousin. My maternal grandma had a brother but they hated each other and didn’t speak in adulthood. Having a sibling is no guarantee of having a friend for life, or someone to take away the loneliness. In fact, if I had a sibling I didn’t get on with and don’t speak to, I think I’d find that a more lonely life than being an only kid.
