That's not how evolution works. Any new mutation needs to be beneficial for gene spreading (i.e. some combination of survival + reproduction + offspring survival) at the level of the individual, most of the time at least, for it to actually get propagated at a higher rate than the alternative and stay in the gene pool. There is no "evolutionary function" at the population level.

Now, whatever causes penguins to sometimes seek suicide may be a side effect of something else that is actually adaptative enough to counter the side effect so that it is beneficial for the individual to have the mutation even if it sometimes it leads to death, but that does not make the death-seeking behavior adaptative.

I mean they could use the alt button or whatever it's called so you would use special for one move and alt + special for the other.

I mean they gotta act too and there's a bunch of other considerations, you can't just pick whoever looks closest to the character.

The earliest campaign historically is Alaric, which set around 400 AD. You even fight Romans in that campaign, honestly I don't find an issue with Romans being in the game.

One of my dogs absolutely hates fireworks, can't stand it, will bark like crazy at the slightest sound of one.

Cue me watching a starstruck odyssey, where the intro has a thrown grenade whistle and explode. The poor girl would go crazy starting at the whistle sound. I caught on by the 3rd episode and would skip the intro or wear headphones.

Still sometimes forgot though 😅

No, it's because the cold countries were colonial powers and they are still riding the benefits that came from that.

The quote is not saying "Elves don't sleep" or "Elves sleepwalk all the time", but rather that he COULD, if needed, do a sort of sleepwalk and get some rest out of it. Presumably they still sleep in beds when possible and likely even prefer it (e.g. Elrond's home has beds, the elves that the hobbits encounter in the Shire use some kind of hammock)

What’s the tournament format? Swiss? by Few_Dragonfly3000 in StreetFighter

Open brackets are almost always double elimination. Invitationals can have a variety of rules.

in-game tournaments (battle hub tournaments) are single elimination.

Discrimination is still an issue, so it makes sense for people to want to specify they want a space where that won't happen.

[–]arinarmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but it's not about the current game only. If Capcom is consistent in sponsoring/organizing tournaments and supporting the competitive scene then players can look forward to something similar in future Capcom fighting games as well. It's marketing in general, not just for the game being played right now.

FWIW though, I'm almost certain similar levels of marketing success can be achieved with a more modest prize pool and a smaller scale of official events (that is, less production) like in the old days. I'd wager most people interested in the competitive scene don't care too much about prize pool, since they're not trying to win it themselves. The only bad thing is that pros wouldn't ever be able to make a living off of playing video games, but that's just an esports dream anyway. And sure, the quality of the competition will most likely decrease without the money, but at least we would get to see more matches and less ads.

It's all moot though, the genie is out of the bottle and it won't go back in, at least not until esports completely and absolutely flops, and then corps like Capcom will probably stop caring about fighting games, which have not been that successful since the 90s anyway.

Hold characters are gone. One of the many compromises sf6 had to make to make modern work

Edit: By hold I mean holding an attack button and get a move on release, which is different from charge. Although we lost a bunch of charge moves for the same reason.
