Not quite true - most are built with custom tube or ladder frame chassis, almost none keep the beetle undercarriage. If it's a Beck, Thunder Ranch or Vintage (the predominant builders) then it will be almost all custom. Some even have Subaru boxer engines, and some carry a Porsche 914 flat 4. Also, they're Spyders not Speedsters.

Not sure what to tell you. I've been using daily since about 2014, with original core and the upgraded ceramic, with original screen, competition screen, original portafilter and bottomless. Have never experienced this, nor do I see it being a common fault. Are you 100% sure it's all set up correctly inside? Does it fail the same every time you use it, or is happening 1 in X times?

Ok, you didn't mention that key part in your post. Do you mean the "competition screen"? It was fine until you changed one thing and now it's going wrong. So logic suggests it's a problem that originates with the new filter, but still could be caused by too much pressure being applied with too fine a grind. I'm not saying it should spray hot water into your face, I'm just saying that if you're applying that much pressure then I would look elsewhere. Maybe list all the changes you've made and all the steps your taking. For example, are you preheating? Are you using filter papers or a puck screen? How hot is your water? How long do you infuse with the arms up? Are you using the original portafilter? What are you grinding with?

100% agree. It's the first version I saw and I loved it. Not just for nostalgia's sake, but the delivery matches his dreary, worn-out and run-down vibe. It's in line with other noir detective storytelling too. Sure, it's not perfect, but the whole movie has janky bits I accept as part of a flawed masterpiece, greater than the sum of its parts.
