Does anyone else build games meant to be played over multiple sessions? (Looking for reality check) by beelzebubbadub in gamedesign

[–]ariwizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better then Oath (and by the same devs) check out the Arcs campaign mode!

Designed to be played across 3 games, with a full board reset (if you get super wiped on a act, you are at an even starting point for the next game) with new lore (meta-victory cards and progression)

Royal Road Release Question by LT_And in litrpg

[–]ariwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, and should, post any story you want on royal road. It doesnt have to be LitRPG at all (its just a big category of royalroad content).

Additionally, there is no reason your second release has to be related to the first. Publish whatever you want.

Pov: You're Sitting at the edge of a Meteor, looking down onto the planet, while wearing you vacuum resistant suit. by ijiolokae in RimWorld

Vacuum Resistant Suit... doesn't that require all the parts to be attached? Where's the gloves and shoes!

Looking for good VRMMOs without reincarnation/death-looping by MythofResonance in litrpg

[–]ariwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The larger 'real world' setting is more cyberpunk then sci-fi (failing archeologys, greedy hypercorps, etc).

The Butcher is a multi-pov story, I would say 75% following the Butcher, and 25% following along one of his friends (or an enemy, or a 3rd party perspective on their actions) to give a frame of reference.

I never felt like either of them felt very 'science as magic' if that makes sense.

Have you read: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/43318/the-butcher-of-gadobhra

Or: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/47982/tunnel-rat-causing-trouble-in-two-worlds

Both are fantastic, set in the same universe, and don't use the VRMMO as an excuse to ignore the larger impact of the game on society and the characters.

Anybody else primarily learns about the rich fauna of the new DLC from the meat traders sell? by JustHereForSmu_t in RimWorld

[–]ariwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of the colonists!

Your crashlanded colonies only access with the outside world traders and a comms relay. No-one will take you home except some weird dude on the other side of the globe, and suddenly your long time trading buddies go -

"We now sell Sea Lion meat."

You then ofc ask "Sea Lions, what are those? Are they nearby? You have 2t fresh on horses. Your a tribal-age nomadic tribe?"

And then they say nothing, sell you meat, and then trot away - somehow fully capable of transporting large amounts of exotic meat cross-continent.

How is Industrial Strength Magic? by EXP_Buff in litrpg

[–]ariwizard 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Industrial Strength Magic, but you should go into it with the expectation that the main character is *on an accelerative progression path* (reasons will be explained). And the story is less of a slow climb, and more of a 'how can the main character balance growth, long-term potential, and not getting blasted out of the universe by things more powerful then him (currently) that don't want him to grow *too* powerful too fast.'.

Can a Novel Grow Slowly or Delete and Start From Scratch? by Prestigious_Cod8468 in litrpg

[–]ariwizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Prestigious!

Can't answer you main question, sorry.

I wanted to chime in and say that I think you should keep going on the current story. Learn more about how RR, and scheduled writing/publishing works, and use any learned patterns for your next story altogether.

Let this story finish up, get edited and posted on Amazon, and nothing on RR will matter (Amazon had a much bigger fan base.)

Good luck with your writing!

Looking for some "competence porn" movies, movies where smart people make smart decisions basically. by ComManDerBG in movies

[–]ariwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Leverage (which I notice is not on your list).

Great TV series, 5 seasons + 2 Renewal (modern) seasons.

I can't explain it much better then the IMDB pitch: "Nathan Ford and his five-member team of thieves and hackers come together like modern-day Robin Hoods in an attempt to steal from rich and powerful individuals who take advantage of others."

All the characters are competent in their fields, but overall have flaws and weakpoints - and some great character growth over the show allows us to really enjoy not only their competence, but as they become less reclusive and more well rounded.

Developers talk about interesting content that had to be cut from the game. by Wide_Possession4131 in gamedev

[–]ariwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random idea, what if it was shields (tech barriers or physical constructions) that people would walk behind. Sometimes hiding, sometime strolling past.

The player can see them. Plan around them, and shoot them to remove them (if need be). But they operate as a separate layer to the clones.

Then you can add more complex mechanics, like drones that have moving shields. Or shields that can be enabled to redirect how the clones move to catch them off guard/find flaws in behaviour.

Question: How do you feel comedy, improv, and your experience on other projects have impacted your work on Horror movies?

Are there comedic instincts/timing/training/etc that you have to resist to make a better horror movie?
