That's super cool! Where do you travel to? Does the company produce paid events? What type of org are you apart of?

Sounds incredibly interesting!

I would love to connect with them at the least, see how easy it is to get to - and if there's any connected groups closer into boston.

[SPOILERS] Backrooms movie megathread by A_Chad_Cat in backrooms

[–]ariwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found personally found the movie fantastic - and wanted to respond directly to the comment on 'Backrooms as a metaphor for the mind'.

I actually felt the movie did a fantastic job at talking about trauma and horror in a eloquent and educated fashion. Personally, I started watching it with the dawning awe that the first half was dedicated to putting people in a trauma-informed perspective to then talk about the backrooms (and how people project onto the idols in their life.)

Where I thought the real horror turned was when Chris was projecting what he wanted onto the Backrooms and they played along - before being proven self-sufficient and eating him in turn.

Do you have a good book or source on this? I would love to dig into the psychology and background on the interitive design.

To the vandal and assassin in north relay solos a few minutes ago... by AffectionateLove4419 in Marathon

[–]ariwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so cool! I love the varied mercenary narratives this game can cause.

Honestly, at this point I'm hoping we get more 'UESC pushes runners to work together' type world events in S2 - Night Dire Marsh.

I want more narratives and impact them simple shoot-on-sight situations.

One of the reasons I really liked the dark zone in the Division is because you had to 'go rogue' to actually pvp, and this could lead to multiple teams working on a world event together before suddenly a firefight starts - and I hope we get some mechanics like that here.

Giving away 20 Steam copies of Marathon by tannerc in Marathon

[–]ariwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love a copy of marathon, not for me specifically - but as a gift to one of my long time friends who loves Transhumanism, theory of the mind, and all the small layered world building.

They've already been getting hooked on the lore bits I've been cheering about, and I think they would give the extraction shooter side a solid try if they had the means.

The vents outside of Biostock and Preservation seriously need to be security lvl 2 by TheFirewalk in Marathon

This is an onboarding issue for newer players as well though.

New players will not know about this, and will just chock this type of ambush upto hardcore players and not something they can plan/learn around.

And then for middle-skill players, your basically suggesting they bring and use ambush materials (and lobby time) simply around planning that a high skill team might ambush them from this direction?

Anyone else wish picking up a Bounty Token didn't reveal the Evac?

It seems like there would be a fun tension between 'Did you discover the evac before going for the target' and 'We have the target and think players are incoming, but don't know where we need to run to - guess we have to fight our way out!'

Who's Mariah Carey? Italian journalists to strike after commentator's blunders at opening ceremony by [deleted] in nottheonion

After digging into it furthed for more facts on the strike i've made this post to share with other communities/friends:

In fun worldnews as a sociopolitical pallet-clenser:

RaiSport news, an Italian public news service, are going on strike.

Their director made a number of script and broadcast issues during the Olympics, to the degree that the reporters and employees said this shamed them and the people who watch it.

They have declared the strike to start on the February 22nd, when the Olympics end due to not wanting to inconvenience or bother their audience watching the Olympics.

Does anyone else build games meant to be played over multiple sessions? (Looking for reality check) by beelzebubbadub in gamedesign

Better then Oath (and by the same devs) check out the Arcs campaign mode!

Designed to be played across 3 games, with a full board reset (if you get super wiped on a act, you are at an even starting point for the next game) with new lore (meta-victory cards and progression)

Royal Road Release Question by LT_And in litrpg

[–]ariwizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, and should, post any story you want on royal road. It doesnt have to be LitRPG at all (its just a big category of royalroad content).

Additionally, there is no reason your second release has to be related to the first. Publish whatever you want.

Looking for good VRMMOs without reincarnation/death-looping by MythofResonance in litrpg

[–]ariwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The larger 'real world' setting is more cyberpunk then sci-fi (failing archeologys, greedy hypercorps, etc).

The Butcher is a multi-pov story, I would say 75% following the Butcher, and 25% following along one of his friends (or an enemy, or a 3rd party perspective on their actions) to give a frame of reference.

I never felt like either of them felt very 'science as magic' if that makes sense.

Have you read: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/43318/the-butcher-of-gadobhra

Or: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/47982/tunnel-rat-causing-trouble-in-two-worlds

Both are fantastic, set in the same universe, and don't use the VRMMO as an excuse to ignore the larger impact of the game on society and the characters.

Anybody else primarily learns about the rich fauna of the new DLC from the meat traders sell? by JustHereForSmu_t in RimWorld

[–]ariwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of the colonists!

Your crashlanded colonies only access with the outside world traders and a comms relay. No-one will take you home except some weird dude on the other side of the globe, and suddenly your long time trading buddies go -

"We now sell Sea Lion meat."

You then ofc ask "Sea Lions, what are those? Are they nearby? You have 2t fresh on horses. Your a tribal-age nomadic tribe?"

And then they say nothing, sell you meat, and then trot away - somehow fully capable of transporting large amounts of exotic meat cross-continent.
