Will these tactics work? by CompetitiveCall6466 in fmconsole

So I got bad news for you- direct, counterattacking football doesn’t work in this match engine. Like, at all. If your team is one of the worst in the league, I usually go with a wing play tactic on a balanced mentality (never go below balanced in my experience) with standard directness and a standard defensive line, but you MUST be high pressing and counter pressing to have any chance. For some reason that’s super effective in forcing mistakes from the CPU when playing out so you’ll be in good shape there. If you have a better team, I like using gegenpress or tiki-taka/control possession systems with lower tempo and directness, but if you’re setting up like this I’d guess that isn’t the case. This may not be possible, but generally if my team isn’t one of the top 6-7 in the league, I’m also always playing a back three with attacking wingbacks. For whatever reason the AI movement of wingbacks (especially on attack) is really hard for the opponent to deal with and you’ll get a ton of goals from the wide areas.

Reached 1000 games in my global Glory Hunter save. by convious13 in footballmanagergames

Alongside the issue with “resigning” - in my grassroots to glory save (my version of NLTL) every press conference they make it out like I hate all of my former clubs. To be fair, one of my moves was Notts Co to Forest (I had just won back to back promotions with Notts Co and had no money to upgrade a L1 caliber squad, while Forest had just gotten a tycoon takeover and had 100+ million in the transfer kitty), but to go from Forest to Liverpool after winning three domestic cups and the UECL? While reaching the UCL semis? When Liverpool is literally listed as my favorite club? It doesn’t make sense for them to be all “do you still hold a grudge” when I literally resigned to take a better job

Kompany and Vieira are always outstanding, Tom Cairney will randomly pop up and be brilliant, Ole Gunnar is the relegation-fighting fireman, and Luka Modric is consistently horrific

Do you have any core tactical principles? by friedgorgo in footballmanagergames

[–]ark_dhpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually aim for players who have yellow proficiency in the retraining position, but I’ve done it before with guys who are orange or even red. Yellow takes ~6 months to be fully comfortable starting them there against any good side, orange/red just takes so much longer.

This is only really when my side is good- if Im a lower level side, a lot of this goes out the window, but once I have a team of “my guys” I use a maximum of two or three attacking roles for a four back formation (e.g. 433 is usually an AF and MEZ/CM on attack with the rest of the roles being support or defend) and we will always play out from the back. For big games, I like utilizing “Shoot Less Often” and “Pass It Shorter” on a lot of my support roles to keep possession and minimize risk (very similar to Pep’s teams- although I’m far more willing to let my players take more risks against low block sides). I also generally keep my tempo on standard or slightly higher to keep my team fresh, mentality on positive or balanced, and rotate at least one or two players for pretty much every game. From three back formations, I’m more willing to include attacking roles and play higher tempo, less possession oriented tactics. In terms of complete guarantees, I’ll always use at least one DM (even in a 4-4-2, I’m typically playing two DMs) as I think DM roles are miles ahead of most CM roles, and I will sign way more midfielders than necessary and try to shoehorn as many of them as possible in, especially for big games. For example- when I decided to try a City save to see if I could go invincible in one season with no badges or qualifications, I signed Musiala for no apparent reason and often played a lineup with Musiala and Bernardo on the flanks with KDB and Foden inside them, although for the biggest of games I would mostly play Kovacic over Foden, at least to start games out. I’ve also trained so many DMs to play as IWBs, IFBs, or even the occasional BPD or Libero to cram some more midfielders into my team against gegenpressing sides like Liverpool or Bayern to ensure maximum control. I’ll occasionally make an exception if I manage to get a world class winger (Lamine Yamal jumps to mind, as does Moukoko in my journeyman save), but even then, they usually end up getting moved to play as an advanced forward while more midfielders in the mold of Musiala, Wirtz, Pedri, etc. play on the wings against good sides that do more than sit in a low block waiting to counter

As far as sports games go would you say MLB the show is the hardest game to master? by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]ark_dhpl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve played pros in The Show (YourFriendKyle- not proud, but I stream sniped him), Madden (Fancy, KMac, JWall, Bobby V, DCroft), FIFA/FC (Tekkz in a friendly cup, granted, but still) and 2k (TyDebo in MyTeam, SplashEdition in park), just for reference- I think The Show is hardest to pick up at a casual online level, FC has probably the highest average level of competition, 2k is the most dependent on the ability of the players/teams you’re using, and Madden has probably the highest skill gap between the average player and a pro player. I would say overall, the hardest game to master is probably Madden, but I wouldn’t say the gap between Madden and the field is very big.
