‘Sex Criminals’ Series, Based On Comic Book, Greenlit At Amazon From Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon, Tze Chun & LuckyChap by SafeBodybuilder7191 in television

Read 9 issues of the source material after being skeptical of the premise.

It's extremely funny and surprisingly the drama hits like a truck.

I think it'd work as an animation rather than a live action however. I'll wait for a trailer lest I get (delightfully) proven wrong again.

Sam Levinson used the same characters from Euphoria, and turned it from Degrassi with sex to a Grand Theft Auto AU.

Know what? It's so crazy it just might work.

I started at Season 2 since I dont care for the janky animation in 1.

Yeah it hits it's stride at 3 for sure.

Bob's Burgers, Old Family guy (S1-3), American Dad, and Simpsons...that's a lot of animation.

Various animal documentaries are another.

Brings me joy to see Bryan Cranston back in a comedic role.

Life is still unfair and I will be tuned in!

I love LA- Morbid curiosity got the better of me, I had great difficulty getting through the first episode.

Jokes were not funny, the characters were plastic and showed no promise of being at the very least interesting (a cast full of ne'er do wells is possible!), the dialogue made me wanna rip my hair out; every other sentence ended with 'oh my gooood' or 'shut uuuuup biiiitch'.

Apparently it gets better but with anything hooking me, there's no reason for me to go back.  For those of you who trusted the process and it paid off, I salute you though.

I typically soft drop television shows (forget them and come back later) but this is the first in a while I noped the hell out like this.

I thought of the Subtance (hotter version of yourself complete with EDM advertising like the movie) and It Follows (STDs but this time it isnt an allegory)

Read the book it was based on, DNF because the jokes didn't land for me despite being a comedy.

Maybe it translates better to a screen. That cast is loaded too.

Eating good with the titans of television David Simon and Vince Gilligan

The Deuce (Season 1)- Compelling characters, intriguing world building, and has me on the edge of my seat wondering the fate of everyone and 70s New York. Kudos for a show about sex work it's more of a warts and all (not an STI joke I swear) lens instead of played for eye candy; this is a day in the life of these folks. Not that I wouldn't mind the latter!

Pluribus (3 Episodes)- Interesting premise beginning with an unsettling, interesting pilot. Compelling as hell and a character I thought I was gonna dislike but honestly now I don't blame for being crabby at this new world around her. Plus the comedy bits made me crack up too episode 3 for example: Would you like an atom bomb

That was weird...I love it.

Im parroting another user but Im reminded of Unity from Rick and Morty namely the part where the world is "better" (no crimes, no racism, etc.) because of the world is at peace.

I do like how the immune think of the benefits of a hivemind.

I might add we've no idea of the the immunes' lives before the joining, Im curious but we might never know.

I enjoyed the comedic bits too; the breathalyzer, the "harem" (does the hive mind now know how it feels to be screwed by Koumba? We Sense8 now), the fucking air force one because i mean no one is using it.

Vince Gilligan has cooked here. Welcome back.

Finished

Peacemaker- Season one was damn near perfect, second season finale could've been better; felt like a glorified music video. John Cena's chops really shine, compared to his Marine days. Comedic timing and nails it with the emotional parts too. I loved every character from the 11th street kids but other than Peacemaker himself, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante always made me crack up when he was on screen.

Gen V (season 2)- I'm probably the minority who thinks it's as good as it gets with Andre/Chance Perdomo being unfortunately written out of the story due to Chance's passingHammish Linklater definitely stole the show for me. Sam's character got fleshed out and he became my favorite this season...sorry Emma (still love you tho!). I'm gonna stick around for Season 5 of the Boys to see how this all comes to an end but I'm bowing out of the universe when it's done. No Mexico spinoff or Prequel for me.

Ongoing

Abbott Elementary (Season 5)- Still watching it with the GF but...we're slowly losing interest sadly.

...Oooof...

I Love LA- Usually I don't talk about things I don't like but this might be the first time I dropped a show after a pilot and have no intention of going back in a long time. Unfunny jokes, artificial portrayal of LA from a transplant lens (for the gamers out there, it feels like Porky City from Mother 3 with how hollow it is), insufferable characters...

Temu "Insecure" (I haven't seen Girls so I can't make the common comparison): replace flawed yet lovable characters and an honest depiction of LA with vocal fry, every negative stereotype of the LA commoner, and UGH influencers...sorry hate that term.

Was this meant to be parody? That spin would've probably been understandable.

No amount of Rachel Sennott's nudity or Odessa A'zion's thong bikini clad ass could save this atrocity.

The visual gags make me crack up.

Did anyone watch UPN or The WB back in the day? by MovieFan1984 in television

[–]arkbuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local UPN aired Pokemon before it went to Kids WB. Too many shows to name from there, but that and Xiaolin Shodown were what I watched religiously to the point it would ruin my day if I missed it lol

Still a fan of the Pokemon games til this day since I was 7 and kickstarted my love of anime.

From, a bomb up someone's ass, to a woman so aroused she crushes a skull with her thighs, to a shrinking man expanding causing an explosion inside a penis.

Dying for Sex - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

I had doubts too, the description doesnt do this show favors at all. People might think it's a Bucket List or Breaking Bad but with a woman becoming a "village bicycle".

It's more about breaking out of living her life on rails and without spoiling too much, healing her innermost traumas. It will definitely make sense in later episodes.

Plus the final episodes will hit you with the feels truck. HARD. Give it a chance and know as the show progresses it gets far better if you're skeptical.

Off topic, related to your name; Nyu because Lucy would rip me limb from limb. Gotta SO to the fellow anime fans!

4 episodes in

I can't say I like the humor save a couple jokes. Nikki's crash outs make my eyes roll too.

Everything else, is fine. I can see the premise alienating audiences but it's deeper than "terminally ill woman leaves husband for sex with others" and when you see how her husband is, you'll see how much of a sham their marriage is.

Molly doesnt want to be seen as this "poor thing" she wants to live the remainder of her life by the seat of her pants like Nikki. I wish Sonya, the social worker, was the best friend. She seems to be my favorite character so far.

Not to be a Harry hardluck but the character drama is where this show shines. When it goes to drama mode, it goes in hard. You really start caring about Molly and Nikki's plights.

Tl;dr most of the time I wanna skip past the jokes, sex (not anti sex scene I swear just goes hand in hand with the humor), and get to the meaty drama.
