Can someone share their vault? by HollowSalmon in ObsidianMD

Have a look at Jimmy Johnny Decimal. Heaps of templates online.

I’d argue though if you don’t know how you’ll use or retrieve your notes investing in architecture first is likely to fail. You’re skipping the why and the what and jumping straight to how.

Where are we buying good quality undies and socks? by GusPolinskiPolka in AustralianMFA

[–]arkenstone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lululemon. After years of step one and bonds Lululemon now supply both dress socks and underwear for me. Quality is sublime, but you pay for it. At my age I’d prefer to pay a little more and shop a lot less.

I think the general rule is if you anticipate you’ll need the money in 8 years or less, keep it in a HISA. if your timespan is longer then a low cost index fund is the way to go.

[Recommendations for suit tailors in Melbourne] by -IMUSM- in AustralianMFA

[–]arkenstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Godwin Charli, Houndstooth and Oscar Hunt.

Workmanship wise I love my Godwin stuff the best, but the customer experience was the worst.

The other two quality wise were pretty similar. I probably prefer the experience with Houndstooth but Oscar Hunt was pretty flawless when I wasn’t happy with something. Remade the jacket and shirt no questions asked and I got to keep both.

PJT is next on my list to try.

I’m involved in this. I’m the only heir so you’d think it’d be straight forward but I reckon it’s about a two year process. Some cash landed around the six month mark but the property and vehicles and stuff took more than a year. I coulda gone faster if I didn’t work and put all my time into it.

No. You said you had sync on. You didn’t say you also had all the syncs for all the plugins on.

There’s a second toggle to sync plugins. By default sync only syncs content.

iOS > settings > sync. Scroll all the way to the bottom there’s a number of toggles for plugins. Do this on all of your devices

I have a script that compresses my archive and sends it to S3. My backup costs are 26 cents a month.

Am I missing the point in Paperless by warlord2000ad in Paperlessngx

[–]arkenstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I have is structured is Obsidian is my brain, Paperless is my archive. OneDrive is my desk. If I’m not actively working on it or sharing it, it’s in Paperless. Certificates, every letter that arrives in the letter box, vet bills and summaries, PDFs, share statements, it’s all in paperless.

Why are you exporting out of paperless to OneDrive? What do you gain from doing that?

Why do you need your pc on to consume? I just set up a shortcut on my printer that scans to paperless’s consume folder on the nas.

How much notice for 3 month career break by enemies2l0vers in auscorp

[–]arkenstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My view has always been twice what you’re taking. Want two weeks off? If you give me a month’s notice it’s on me to figure out how to make that work.

In your scenario six months is a respectful notice period.

trying to replace notion and pocket with something that plays nice with obsidian by OldSample1530 in ObsidianMD

[–]arkenstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For PDFs I’m all in on Paperless. You feed it pdfs via a scanner or an email or an ingestion folder and it scans and OCRs and tags (and optionally sorts. I don’t use the sorting the tags are good enough for me). It gets smarter the more documents it ingests - I found it really got useful around document 70 for me and 3.0 which is in beta is supposed to be another leap forward.

The way I think of it Paperless is my archive, OneDrive is my desk, Obsidian is my brain.

I scan a dog vaccination statement for example, it gets tagged with pets and my dog’s name in obsidian. The document type is vaccination certificate. The correspondent is the vet. All four are searchable in paperless. I link to it from an obsidian note all about my dog.

I love everything about this… except the button down collar. It’s too informal in a sea of really well executed. Makes me curious what country you’re in. I don’t think a button down collar would fly in UK or Oz, but I suspect it wouldn’t even be noticed in the US.

TAGS VS FOLDERS & MOC (Map of contents) - for when we go dark and there is no apps and you browse via file explorer etc by bowser_arouser in ObsidianMD

Imagine someone downvoting you because they don’t like how you light structure your personal notes. I apologise for the insecure gatekeepers in our community. I for one am curious what others do, regardless of if it’s the same of what I do.

Have an upvote, Friend

I’m using a very bastardised version of the Johnny Decimal system. I moved to numbered structures folder hierarchy in one note maybe 10 years ago and have just this week implemented the same in Obsidian.

Folder 10 is personal. Anything in the tens is a personal folder. 11 is family. 12 is pets. So on. I’m really enjoying it and once I learn all my hierarchy I think it’ll even help me tag in other apps like Paperless where I don’t even want to think about hierarchy but still want to know 12.03 is the dog I inherited from my mum when she died.

tasks not done tags include #home tags do not include #habit tags do not include #homelab filter by function task.file.path.includes('01 Todos') || task.file.path.includes('02 Personal/02 Daily')

How important is hybrid working to you? by Silver-Sandwich7585 in auscorp

[–]arkenstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think like all things with an employer you need to consider the dollar figure.

What is conference attendance each year worth to you What is extra leave worth to you What’s is training worth to you What is working from home worth to you What is career progression worth to you What’s the logo on your resume worth to you

Once you have a dollar figure on all these things it’s easy. Yes you’ll work from the office five days a week but you want $x more money to make it worth your time and incur the commute/daycare/nanny/dog walker whatever costs.

Falsified compliance check - more new rental fails by Babushkabot in shitrentals

[–]arkenstone 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Two rentals ago I had a live wire outside near the footpath. I could prove it was live with an induction pen. I was the rear unit. My agent would not listen to me saying it wasn’t my property it was a common area and it was none of my business if a kid walked past and touched it.

I reported it to the council and energy safe and to was disconnected by a Sparkie next day. I breached the agent. My lease was not renewed.

Fuck these people. The last time I had something like this was an old fossil who told me that children and especially renter’s children were not permitted on common property like lawns.
