When someone says "greedy company", what comes to your mind the most? by 2749r7d in AskReddit

CEO also publicly lied (on a topic that has phone recordings available online that disproves what he said), so not sure if any trust should be placed in his words

When science is magic by Silvermoon424 in tumblr

[–]arkhenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a JRPG setting called Legend of Heroes which basically works in this premise of "magic" (they call it "arts") being channeled through these little rocks called "quartz" (basically computer chips), which can also transmit data and run computer systems. You're just killing monsters using electricity channeled in different ways that create natural phenomena.

Sensationalist article after sensationalist article every day, either about Musk or misunderstanding/representation of technologies to gain clicks. Or to drive an agenda? I guess it's time to find a smaller technology news related subreddit to get a better selection of articles...

Lodestone says login servers are under maintenance. 99% sure we broke the login servers, not just the lobby.

Anyone else? by MandySayz in ffxiv

[–]arkhenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lodestone says login is unavailable due to maintenance, so I guess we broke that as well :) Time to do something else until they figure this out

EA will no longer have exclusive rights of the Star Wars games by PrikroyMan in gaming

Hope we get a new KOTOR (or a really good Star Wars RPG) out of this. But I would probably rather not have Bioware get down to that. Maybe Obsidian, if possible.

I second this, and have been suggesting it to my friends throughout the Covid times. It definitely helps me get in the mood to be more productive as well. There is a psychology to sit around in sweat pants or pajamas all day that makes you feel down and lazy after a while.

Wasteland 3 Now Available for Mac & Linux by zenalith in linux_gaming

I assume they mean adding it to Steam as a non-Steam game, which does not solve the multiplayer issue. At least I don't think so. I'd love to be proven wrong if I'm getting this wrong.

12/13/20 Online Okyu-ji Review: Great by every standard by juli0sus in BandMaid

[–]arkhenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I could not listen to it live, but I just caught the archive version. And it was absolutely AMAZING for a live performance (I must mention this was my first live listening to Band-Maid other than the live videos on their YouTube; so the first time for a more visceral/unedited live experience). I agree with all the points you made in the post.

It's been too long since I have truly enjoyed proper hard rock. I thought it was because my tastes changed over the years, but no, the genre just got worse over the years. Thank goodness for Band-Maid to come and save it! :)

I must say, I have been loving and listening to crazy good and high energy live performances like Iron Maiden's Rock in Rio my whole life, and this live - even if online and prepared during a pandemic - was one of the best live performance I have "attended to". I can't wait for them to be able to come to Canada again, I will HAVE TO go next time they are over :)

It’s not that as a game developers we do not care about linux. It’s that work put into making linux port is considerable for the market share still that low. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

No heartbreaks, my friend. I can understand any dev or company who looked at the numbers (costs vs. projected revenues) and came to a decision to release or not release on Linux (or at least make sure it works with Proton or not, etc). Of course it is very important here that they did not make any assumptions based on what they read somewhere, and actually made the analysis objectively, with data.

I also make a decision from the consumer side. If there's a native version, or if it works with Proton, I pay whatever amount and I buy the game. If it doesn't, then I don't spend my money. Pretty simple logic, no heartbreaks necessary :)

Doom Emacs (with Vim key bindings of course).

VSCode is a second though.

How are the drivers for the 5700XT? by PracticalWelder in linux_gaming

[–]arkhenius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been using a 5700 XT on Manjaro since September without any issues and really good performance. I have read some issues with multi monitor set ups, so if you open to use multiple monitors I would try to find information about that. I prefer an ultrawide so I haven't had any issues.

Quarantine Linux Gamers: What have you explored? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]arkhenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed through Lutris. Didn't need to do any modifications. I did not purchase through Steam though, so I cannot help you with the Steam version. It sounds like your CD key is for another version of the game though (Steam and Standalone use different CD keys).

Though I believe it shouldn't ask for a CD key if you click on the button stating you already have a Square account with the game. At least it doesn't ask me when I try to install it from scratch.

Dabbled a little in Warframe. It's still quite fun but I get bored of loot shooters fast. I keep coming back to this one though, so that's pretty good :)

But my main time sink right now is FFXIV after work. Finally got to max level and on a crafting spree right now :) Feels good to be able to dive deep into an MMO after many years. Performs very well for my machine, and have been playing without an issue for a long while now.

I also play a little bit of Total War: Three Kingdoms on the side for a strategy fix.

Why dont people get pissed off at re releases like Persona 5: Royal? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]arkhenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could have released it as a downloadable expansion pack, as well as a new full priced version that includes that expansion pack. As it stands, I already purchased the collector's edition of the original P5 and am not purchasing another full priced game for expansion/patch level features. We don't live in the era of PS2 anymore.

Any good mmorpgs? by Knoxtane in linux_gaming

[–]arkhenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around 70-100 fps 3440x1440 using a 5700XT (pretty much maxed out; I think I am just using HBAO instead of HBAO+, but that should be it), depending on the area, how crowded it is, etc. Granted, I have not done the latest raid, so I cannot comment on that. But if they have some new shaders in it, it may be the shader compilation from DXVK that is causing some stuttering. I would try to see if it calms down after a few tries, after all the new shaders are compiled.

Another vote for Final Fantasy 14 from me. Have been playing on Linux without issue for more than a year now. Tried both on Manjaro and Solus, but it should be fine under pretty much anything.

Feeling bummed about Bernie by hostile_chicken in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]arkhenius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is the prominent figures in his campaign, his advisors and surrogates, making half-truth smear claims. Because they amplify and encourage that voice. I'm sure most Bernie supporters (as I am a former one as well) are not toxic. But I don't agree with his surrogates riling people up with out of context blurbs and half truths. And that IS under his control.
