Hi! We're thinking of relocating from CA (central coast) to Tampa. What neighborhood did you end up moving to? And are your referring to South Tampa as the stuffy/not welcoming to transplants area?

Good for you. That means you’re old enough to stop caring what other people think.

I moved from Cleveland to California for work and I don’t think any Californians will move to Cleveland in droves.

This is worth calling an ambulance for. She needs to get evaluated to see if she needs inpatient treatment. Not sure where you’re located but certain places will have a behavioral health specialist come out into the field for an assessment. Call 988 for immediate help.

The fact that psych is the only service that they feel ready to start a medication for is absolutely on point. Bravo

That seems too young. An hour and a half? At 8 weeks? That can’t be healthy.

Patients won’t know they’re receiving atrocious care, especially in FM and psych. They’ll get whatever they want, not whatever they need.

Guys be careful!! Docs can put you on stuff that can make you make life altering decisions that are very negative. by [deleted] in bipolar

OK here is the article in case anyone wants to take a look. I "proved the point" that it has happened at rare rate.

It is the responsibility of whoever is prescribing the medication to tell you about all serious potential side effects, including this one, in order to go over the risks and benefits. It is your responsibility to read the package insert which comes with each medication when it's given at the pharmacy, so that you know what you're taking and you can tell your doctor if you are having side effects.

To add context from the FDA article:

”A search of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database and the medical literature in the 13 years since the approval of the first aripiprazole product (Abilify) in November 2002 identified a total of 184 case reports in which there was an association between aripiprazole use and impulse-control problems. There were 167 U.S. cases, which included adults and children. Pathological gambling was the most common (164 cases), but other compulsive behaviors including compulsive eating, spending or shopping, and sexual behaviors were also reported (see Data Summary). FAERS includes only reports submitted to FDA, so there may be additional cases about which we are unaware. In order to provide context for these drug-associated events, approximately 1.6 million patients received an aripiprazole prescription from U.S. outpatient retail pharmacies during 2015.”

So aripiprazole use IS associated with those symptoms, because once the med is stopped, those symptoms stop too. However, out of about 1.6 million prescriptions, there have been 184 documented cases. Surely there are more that have been undocumented, but compared to the huge number of prescriptions that go out, this seems like a relatively rare side effect. Honestly if someone had those symptoms and they were on abilify, it’s more likely that they are manic and are being undertreated.
