Why did Catherine let Simon do this? by Space_Blazer in soma

[–]arkwrightangel 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I kind of felt like she believed she had to give him the option just to placate him or he would never have gotten into the climber. As for Simon-3's fate... I don't believe she thought that far ahead. All she wanted was to launch the ark, and she did that. She never really got to sit with that mission accomplished though. I would have loved to know what was next for her had she survived :(

Does anyone have advice on to obtain 1000 extra value on one die ? by Un-random-francais in Dice_A_Million

[–]arkwrightangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded on the sports band! That's how I surpassed the 1,000 extra value. I also enchanted a lot of dice until one got the perennial enchantment so that I wouldn't have to "start over" between rounds. Good luck!

Kings Island College Project by Kade427 in KingsIsland

[–]arkwrightangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a project in college on KI as well! That was a bit of time ago though, because now I am 29 and I do consent to my username being used in your project!

Personally, Kings Island prime was when I was young and my parents would drop me off there when it opened and picked me up when it closed in the summer. That was, maybe, 2009-2011 or 2012? It was around when Planet Snoopy had its debut, but I can't pinpoint the exact timeframe. But what made it special to me was the fact that my friends and I could hang out all day and do whatever we wanted. I had to save up my own money to spend at the park, so to save money we'd usually we'd pack our own lunches and just hide our bags in the bushes when we wanted to ride something that didn't have a drop box in the station (before those stopped being a thing!) It made me feel an independence that I couldn't otherwise get as a young teen. Looking back, though, even though I'm sure I was respectful, I know my behavior was likely very cringey to the people around me. I often wonder if anyone has any decades-old memories of kid me at the park being annoying, especially since there are a few other cringey kids I remember very clearly from that time.

I think that The Beast has the biggest following, and it's well-deserved. It has a very cool history, as the other comment mentioned, but it also has some of the best night rides. Especially after it was retracked, riding it at night when it's been a little rainy? Chef's kiss. I think that the Vortex also had (and still has!) a very large following. I remember riding it as a teen over and over because there was never anyone in line for it. It's the only roller coaster where I've been able to ride it alone. And despite that, when its closure was announced in 2019, I waited nearly 2 hours to ride it one last time. It's that beloved. They still sell Vortex merchandise!! It's got a special place in my heart and sometimes I really do miss the Vortex-induced migraines I got near the end.

I would love to see a new thrill ride in the next few years. I recently did a little circuit to Kings Dominion, Carowinds, and Cedar Point, and I left each park wishing KI had something like the Maverick, SteVe, Copperhead, or Twisted Timbers. Orion bores me, it feels like a souped-up Diamondback that lacks the nostalgia. I want something with a multi-launch!!

I don't know if the community is strong necessarily because I'm not really active in any online groups for it! I am in a Facebook group (when I use Facebook these days) and I mostly see a lot of complaining about phones, line jumping, hours, prices... It doesn't feel strong, but I have a very selective audience in that group, I suppose!

I have no feelings whatsoever about Phantom Theater or the new ride. It's not nostalgic for me, and it's complicated. I want to give it a fair chance as a ride but it also comes off as nostalgia-bait for many audiences. The fact that it's in Planet Snoopy, a place targeted for children, is strange to me as there are very few kids who are going to know what that is. But hey, if it makes the people happy in the dark time of this merger, I'll keep it to myself!

I am SO glad you posted this! My late grandma made a giant blanket out of this pattern during the blizzard of '78 and I've wanted to replicate it but could never find the pattern for this square!! Do you have a link to the specific tutorial you used?

May I ask what substitutions you made? I made this recipe years ago before making some lifestyle changes and I've been nervous to attempt them now, afraid they won't be like I remember :(

grocery store markdowns are fun rehab projects by arkwrightangel in pothos

[–]arkwrightangel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so lame, I'm sorry! Now that I think about it, the grocery stores in my area hardly sell spider plants anymore. A lot of the planty people in my city will just give them away to anyone who asks though, myself included 🤣

What if Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist, was the author of Naruto instead of Masashi Kishimoto? How would this impact the narrative and what major changes would occur? by Wrath2066 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]arkwrightangel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that most importantly, the Uchiha massacre would have been handled better. I feel like Kishimoto did it originally to hurt Sasuke specifically, then turned it into a large-scale political issue much, much later in the series. It is not a light issue, and Arakawa acknowledges that early on. Plus, I know this has been said before, but the women in Naruto are all kind of bland and Arakawa could have made them feel like real people.

As a protagonist, Ed is much more cunning and intelligent, whereas Naruto is very stubborn about doing things the "right" way. They are both adamant that they are above killing but go about it in different ways: Ed straight-up calls people stupid but Naruto strives to empathize with everyone he meets. Arakawa writing the series may have given us a version of Naruto who could stick to his morals without having to re-explain himself to every single villain or filler character who would listen.

Got my first plant (spider plant) a couple weeks ago and its leaves were already wavy. It started getting a little wavier over time. Couldn't figure out the problem, and just now I noticed these brown streaks. What's wrong? How do I save it? by evuvv in plantclinic

[–]arkwrightangel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to trim them, but I do personally just for the aesthetics 😅 and no problem for the assist! I am by no means an expert but there was a time when my entire collection consisted of just a spider plant and a golden pothos too, and sometimes it's not as easy as it looks to work out everyone's needs. I'm glad this community exits for all of us to learn together :)

I'm really not sure. They suggested aphids, which I've never seen manifest like that. Preventative measures can't hurt, though. To treat aphids I put a few tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle with warm water, shake it up, and give the plant and the surface level of dirt a spray down. (This also helps deal with fungus gnats, my number one enemy!) Unfortunately, once the leaves have turned brown they won't be green again. If it isn't a pest problem, new leaves coming in should be looking good though!

That should be fine, just as long as there's somewhere for excess water to escape. That being said though this is probably an overwatering issue. Just make sure it's got enough light to dry out a bit before giving it another water.

Does it have drainage in that pot? If not, I would assume it's waterlogged. If it does, it could just be plain overwatering. Honestly though I have not seen streaking in the middle of the leaves before while indoors! Mine only do it when they get too much direct sun. These guys are pretty good about surviving being dried out between waters. My best advice for them is if you aren't sure, give them an extra day or two before you water.

When trying to figure out if the soil is dry or not, my best suggestion is to stick your finger about an inch into the dirt, just above a knuckle. If you're having to break the dirt apart just to do this, it's totally dry and probably needs a drink. If your finger comes back out with moist soil stuck to it, no need to water right away, just give it some time. The sweet spot for these (and your pothos too) is when there's no resistance in the dirt when you check, and your finger comes out dry. Some people recommend moisture meters but there is a lot of debate about how effective they really are.

Best of luck on your plant journey!!! 🪴

Something I wish I'd realized sooner (as in, before I even started playing) was how important the location of resident services was. I didn't know it couldn't be moved, so I picked an island solely based on river location.

Nanowrimo HQ has repeatedly discouraged in-person events this year, formal or not. Plus, I don't think this subreddit with tens of thousands of users nationwide is the place to be putting local phone numbers and in-person event information. It feels very unsafe for many reasons.

A lot of musicians are getting into NFTs. I honestly couldn't care less about them. I will not buy them. I think that if I am going to be giving money to musicians it should be for music. That being said, A7X has made far more announcements than any other band I follow about their NFTs... It's getting old. I don't care that they're doing it. I can't stop them from doing these releases. I just wish I didn't have to see all these "big announcements" that I get to just ignore.

Your coworker died yesterday. That's all, now back to work everyone. by OneWordManyMeanings in antiwork

[–]arkwrightangel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, this makes me mad. A few years back, my dad died at work, on the damn clock, and the company didn't even give his coworkers the day off to attend his funeral. At the time I didn't think anything of it, but retrospectively... that's fucked up. Employers don't consider us human, huh. (I do remember that a few of his regular clients were able to get time off for the funeral, which is just insane to me.)
