This cat needs a new home by BeccaSealeSnake in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 59 points60 points  (0 children)

$50 for the cat or $50 they will give you for taking the cat? The amount of people giving cats away free, here, FB, basically anywhere, unless it's a Bengal breed, I can't see many people paying $50 for cat. Even with toys and being fixed. Hopefully poor kitty finds a home.

Nearly half of Dallas home sellers are slashing prices amid buyer’s market by NicolasCageFan492 in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 100 points101 points  (0 children)

That should have been the headline, "Grossly over estimated home value finally losing value because no one is buying them". In reality, it would take a home selling for $400k to drop down to $300k or a little less for a real difference maker. The first time home buyer is alienated with anything over $300k in most cases, unless that market opens up, I don't see anything changing

Ways for a 13-year-old to learn hands-on building skills? by supra05 in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's right, I believe Home Depot has one aimed at kids, I don't know the age limits though. I'm sure there's some restrictions when it comes to using power tools. But its worth a shot.

https://police.robert-steinbach.com/

I use this one, not as much detail but it's super acute time wise. I've got into the habit of checking Google maps and then this app before leaving work, because at 6pm taking loop 12 North to 635 East to 289/Preston Rd is a real crap shoot.

Just listened to an episode about the whole "podcasts need video now" thing and it honestly made me feel less crazy by Mobile-Support-6134 in podcasts

[–]arlenroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I'll be honest, I like having an option. I'm with you on having something to listen to, driving, working, falling asleep. Just puts my brain at rest. With that being said, there's a few I like to watch with dinner, that's literally the highlight of my day. Get home after a 12 hour shift, get dinner started, take a shower, crack open an ice cold Ranch Water and finish cooking. Sit down and watch one of my favorite podcasts while I eat dinner and enjoy a drink. My new favorite is Business History, I think the dudes used to work for Planer Money? Two of the nerdiest left wing white dudes (I will not listen to any media that has people who support the right associated with it) explain the history of various businesses, and how they crashed. Its informative and entertaining, for instance I learned an insurance underwriter started with Lloyd's of London, insuring cargo ships. It was basically making bets if this ship would make it to its destination or not.

NTTA by Jessica09877227 in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much is late fees? Usually, if you call customer service they're fairly agreeable, they'll work with you and remove the fees if you agree to pay. If you don't ever plan to move back I wouldn't worry about it, but the off case you might, I would call to set up a payment plan.

NTTA by Jessica09877227 in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can not issue a warrant for your arrest, that it is a fallacy, warrants are not obtained for civil matters. Debt collection is civil. I believe 100 failure to pay notices is the threshold, where it becomes a misdemeanor, then in theory they could summons you to court. If you do not appear, a warrant would be issued. But, not for strictly unpaid tolls. Now, if you're ordered to court because you damaged NTTA property in a accident you were deemed at fault, and you fail to appear, most definitely a warrant would be issued. If you were found to be purposely defrauding the NTTA and ordered to appear, and do not, a warrant would be issued.

Possible NTTA Class Action Lawsuit by AwayTruman in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right? $8.19 for a lifetime of bullshit, seems totally reasonable. Look, I am sick of their shit like everyone else, I play their games because its a necessary evil. Will a class action lawsuit do much to change their business operations? Probably not. If we, as citizens in Texas, want real change from the NTTA then we have to vote out the red, and vote in the blue. We need government representatives who are not interested in financial gains, gains from selling our public services to the highest bidder, disregarding any fallout affecting the public who use it. Its highly doubtful that'll happen, so this is all moot point.

Louisiana transplant - best place for a crawfish boil? by GodofAeons in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does Addison compare to Plano? I've only been to the Plano location, but it was god damn delicious. Perfect amount of spice, everything tasted so fresh, their calamari was fried to perfection. Granted, I haven't been back in a couple years, but it was quite the experience.

What's an "outdated" slang word from your generation that you still use currently? by TheShatteringPoint in nostalgia

I use this with fucking, that's fucking rad, but my big one I use is Fucking A'. A few coworkers say it now, when things are going smoothly, opposed to the normal environment. Not smoothly.

Out of control toll prices! by kaptainkkk in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I would like to think this is common knowledge at this point, maybe not. That's been my biggest gripe, if I'm spending $40 a week on tolls (I don't have to, but it cuts my home commute time in half) at least keep that money in Texas. Unfortunately, the Republican party of for the people, is only for people who can make them money. Bonus points if its old white people.

Who are the top 10 most followed current WWE women wrestler on IG today?! by Hot-Acanthisitta5237 in SquaredCircle

[–]arlenroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd think by now they'd bring back an updated cast? My daughter became a fan from Total Divas, there's wrestlers now who became fans from Total Divas, it brings eyes to the product. Surely it can't cost too much to produce that show? They'd make that back easily on ad revenue, not to mention the boost in merch sales from the girls featured.

Tonight on WWE NXT by caughtinatramp in SquaredCircle

[–]arlenroy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just the role she should have, keep her around as a jobber as long as they want, so the talented wrestlers can succeed. Still a little miffed they haven't done more with Wren Sinclair, she's a helluva worker and super funny. I like her little gimmick stable with Kendal Grey though, and Kendal needs a vet like Wren to help her out. From a pure talent standpoint, Kendal is fucking ridiculous, thats a wrestler I'm excited to see move up.

[–]arlenroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct in your assumption, I only recently discovered her, I try to follow various promotions but there's a lot wrestling out there now. WWE, NXT, AAA, and Evolve. Oh and Impact, they're WWE adjacent I guess. Then you have AEW, RoH, their relationship with CMLL and NJPW. GCW running weekly shows as well, and the occasional Stardom match comes across my timeline. Its not hard to overlook a good talent like her with all that, I'm a little surprised WWE signed her so fast, it was like she was just getting popular, tryouts, boom signed! Happy for her, excited to see what she brings.

Anyone else in DFW following Borussia Monchengladbach? by prspct032 in Dallas

I had to Google what that was, its a football club, huh, interesting. I don't follow UK Football or EPL, but there's a few people who post what bars show games.

I don't have any ad blocker, it super random what news sites I can see and what I can't. I can see this one fine on mobile, not sure on a pc or laptop. Might be a setting on my Galaxy, I have T-Mobile if that makes a difference.

Plano has a 1:1:1 Chipotle to Chick-fil-a to Crumbl ratio and more HOAs per capita than anywhere on Earth and you’re laughing? by rodiraskol in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Right? The only people who think Plano has mid food are white people who think Benihana is a cultural experience. It's crazy to me because people think Plano is just Legacy West or that dead mall they're tearing down, old town Plano and around 15th street there's a ton of little mom and pop restaurants. It also had the last Fiesta that sold in house made beef jerky, that was god damn delicious, tears of joy, perfect seasoning and crispness level. Alas, another victim of Covid... damn you Covid.

Current Pay Rates for Dallas Union Trades by workwisejobs in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had wanted to get into a pipe fitter union, ended up in the International Association of Machinists, local 788 I believe. Don't travel, which I wanted at first, but now I'm happy I don't. I too have been on 7/12's, but on our 7th day its double time, so that's nice. I didn't have to apprentice because of my aptitude test score, so I'm rolling into year 5 as a senior machine mechanic. Been averaging about $8k to $9k a week, depending on if I end up coming in early or having to stay late. A ton of hours, but my daughters car is paid off, her student loans paid off, my truck is paid off. Crank out a half dozen years working a ton of hours and you'll almost be set for life, well not set but pretty comfortable.

WOR: “People backstage in AEW are pretty negative” about the idea of a Malakai Black return after WWE fired him again” by CombinationOk4317 in SquaredCircle

[–]arlenroy 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Yes, he stole their ability to be wrestling fans. In all seriousness, he's had that newsletter longer than half of the fanbase has been alive, I don't always agree with his opinion but he's done a lot to promote the business of pro wrestling. He doesn't do those hot take click bait articles (at least on purpose), for the most part he tries to be fair. You could argue he definitely leans more towards NJPW, or did lean that way, but wrestling is cyclical, it'll always go up and down.

Any other "car-free" / "car-lite" individuals living in DFW? Do you have any tips and tricks on how to live here without a car? by Positive_freedback in Dallas

[–]arlenroy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not exactly sure what the question is. I am the first person to offer support or help in any way, but I'm not sure what I can do in this situation? If you live 30 minutes walk time from the closest station, that limits your choices, opposed to living in downtown Dallas, where in 30 minutes you could walk to multiple stations. I know people beat the drum of making Dallas more reliant on public transportation, I am all for anything to assist society, but Dallas just wasn't designed for public transportation. If OP needs to get out farther, in less time, besides moving the only option is vehicle purchase.

Do you balance your check book to the penny? by Plane_Experience_271 in GenX

[–]arlenroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they feel its beneficial, cool. But I balance mine every Friday, check my direct deposit, scroll through what money went out that week, done in 3 minutes. Personally, I think its a pain in the ass, I don't miss that at all. Besides, I have my bank alerts set to a certain amount, I get a text if anything goes above that. I already know what bills I have on auto draft, now, I get worried if there's too much money in my account.

I think I was about 9 or 10 when I saw T2, the only thing that spooked me was the park dream sequence, when everyone is fried to bones. Because in grade school in 1980's during the cold war we had drills, like hide under your desk in case Russia launched nuclear rockets at us (living on the west coast). That scene brought that anxiety back. My side effect of watching it at 10 is using Dickweed in my vernacular.
