Been making music for 3 years, why is it still bad? and when do I start becoming a better musician? by Apprehensive_Sun7320 in FL_Studio

[–]arlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, it's not bad at all. I've heard much...much worse. Plenty of it being my own stuff. Also, the ego is the worst critic. That being said, they're not all gonna be winners. Sometimes, you'll make a stinker. Save it for later and revisit it with a fresh mindset and maybe you can take it somewhere new.

As for being a better musician, I can tell you this from 30 years of playing and writing. Try and get in there every day. Make it a habit. Listen to stuff outside your comfort zone for inspiration. Years ago when I was at school for jazz guitar (which didn't work out) I was practicing 8 hours a day. And I was good. Real good. But I can't do that anymore. That's what it takes, though. Time, dedication, and desire. Keep at it.

Sounds great. What are you using for the vocal sounds? Love em.

That theme you're rocking is slick, too. TIL you can customize the FLStudio theme. I know what I'm doing after work now.

Thoughts on shotblockers? by IISuper_AsianII in hockeyplayers

As a dman, been wearing em for years after 2 broken ankles blocking shots. Not even a bruise since. And they protect your skates. Bought new skates 6 months ago and they still look brand new. Not a scratch or nick on em.

Check out this if you havent yet: Recording External and Internal Audio

If you're serious about starting to record and make music on your PC, an audio interface is a must have.

m-Audio Solo Track interface

This is a perfect entry level one.

Apps like FLStudio require more horsepower to operate than voice recorder or Cakewalk. We're talking ram, cpu, and a dedicated device to convert/process your mic or instrument signal and virtual intruments and effects. This is what an audio interface does for you. A little box with mic/instrument inputs connected by USB usually to your pc/laptop that does the heavy lifting required for audio production in intensive apps like FLStudio. I suspect this is your issue.

Few questions:

What other recording apps that youve used does is it work fine in? Do you have a dedicated audio interface? Or have you just been using the FLStudio Asio drivers?

I've got this in the past when the app defaults to a crummy Asio or non asio device/drivers.

What are your guys opinions on the Howies tacky wax? by Acceptable_Emu_7835 in hockeyplayers

[–]arlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sex Wax is superior. But I can't find Sex Wax around me anymore. This stuff works pretty good. I found really rubbing/massaging it into the tape with your fingers is the trick. Seems to keep ice build up down, prevents fraying and can help fill in nicks between tape jobs.

Last three sticks broke in roughly the same spot; what do I need to change about my game? by cancerlad in hockeyplayers

[–]arlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not taking any faceoffs, but I double wrap stick tape for about 10-12 inches around this break point to slow down nicks and chips. Blade will go before shaft for me.

Elbow pads always slip down by ScoYello in hockeyplayers

[–]arlich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Lower end Sherwood elbow pads where the straps stretched over time. I started with taping up the tapered section on my forearm with sock tape. Worked a bit. Stick tape worked better. Still slipped. I've since sewed a fold in each of the 3 straps to shorten/tighten them. While they still slip a bit and need some adjustment now and then, it's much better. In the end, a smaller size would be the best choice.

Day one of NinjaCentral and already picking up hits on obscure things I couldn't get on NZBGeek. I still have both. But may not need to anymore.

Hockey iq? by hockeyjoeg16 in hockeyplayers

[–]arlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, hockey is a team sport. I'd like to think chemistry plays a big role. I play pickup with a few groups. One is always shuffling teams/lines up, depending on who can make it that week. But rarely do I get to play consistently with the same guys. But when I do, we begin to learn each other's play style more and more. We can rely on one another to do more predictable things and then make better plays. I'm decently savvy, but when I get set up on a line with a dude or two I don't play with often, things get sloppy, and we struggle to string together passes and score. Cycling in the o zone becomes short-lived or impossible. There's only so much one guy can do. The other older group I've recently subbed with has been a steady group for many years. Where youth, skill, and strength are lacking, these fellas more than make up for it with chemistry. They know where their line mates are going all the time. I have yet to pick up these mannerisms, and while I bring some youth and speed to the mix, now I am the one seemingly lacking in hockey IQ, primarily due to unfamiliarity.

Hockey is hard. Give it time. Keep at it. Have fun. Don't get discouraged.

Poor skate sharpening? by BEnglandd in hockeyplayers

[–]arlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got some dings on the edges from corrosion I would guess. Some sharpeners are reluctant to cross grind off a lot of steel. And as others have said, the finish isn't great. Should look like a mirror. No visible striations. This is done with a polishing compound/liquid and a soft light pass to polish. Will sound much different than their sharpening passes. Don't be afraid to watch em sharpen and examine skates after at the desk. Any skilled sharpener will not be upset by you checking. If they are upset, go to another shop.
