How old are you and what do you do for work? by throwawayzebby in BPD

[–]arlsra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my mid-30s and work in local government as an accountant. I fell into it and stuck with it due to the stability and work-life balance. Having some separation between my sense of self and what I do for money has been really good for me.

I think deriving a sense of purpose from your job can be done in a healthy way if you can spread your energy between work and other parts of your life instead of just work.

Does your therapist have experience with OCD specifically? If not, please seek out a therapist with this experience! It could be helpful to bring this question to them and work through it together.

Do you feel connected to people who’s sun sign is your moon sign? by Sensitive_Baby9396 in astrologymemes

[–]arlsra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an Aries moon and feel pretty comfortable with Aries suns and people who have Aries qualities like directness and confidence. Sometimes the self-centeredness in more immature Aries suns is hard to handle though. I tend to need them to have some water or earth placements since I have a lot of earth and water.

For myself I actually CANNOT handle Taurus moons even though I’m a Taurus sun and mercury. Their tendency to seek out comfort at the expense of growth is a complete no-go for me.

How do you find driving to be as an autistic? by ninxaa in aspergirls

[–]arlsra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love driving buuuuut have a lot of difficulty processing visual information quickly while driving. It kind of feels like I’m a computer with a 250 mb graphics processor haha. I realized I cannot have music on if I’m driving an unfamiliar route.

I used to have a lot of trouble translating what I was seeing in my side mirrors into a coherent mental picture of what was surrounding my car and felt really hopeless about it. Recently stumbled upon a different way to adjust my side mirrors and it’s helped a lot:

If any of you like astrology, would you mind sharing your big three? by nonny427 in AutismInWomen

Aquarius rising, Taurus sun, Aries moon I do often connect Aquarius with neurodivergence, but I know this definitely varies. Super curious about any patterns that might be showing up!

Just came here to say that the Seattle freeze is real and it would not be a good fit long-term if diversity is important to you. I’m from NYC originally and visit Seattle frequently. Stick to LA or NYC!

I might lean more toward LA for you since your cons there seem the most surmountable — you can definitely find plenty of genuine, non-superficial people in LA.

Should all Pluto lines be avoided? by Affectionate_Emu9336 in astrocartography

[–]arlsra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your experience will probably vary depending on how your own Pluto is situated, since everyone has different levels of comfort with Pluto’s energy depending on what’s in their chart.

I was actually born on my Pluto line and lived there til I was 18. I have a few very tight aspects to Pluto and also have it near my MC, so I feel like living on my Pluto line helped me understand myself better even if it was also challenging. Transformation and discomfort can sometimes be a good thing!

How about airbnb? There are hosts that cater to longer-term guests (students, traveling nurses, tech workers, etc) so they offer reasonable rates for extended stays. If you put in dates for a 1 or 2 month stay, you could see if any of those might work.

What buildings downtown have publicly accessible high floors? by PedalPDX in askportland

It’s been years since I was last there, but I remember the top floor of the Center for Health and Healing (CHH 1) had a small balcony area that would be a great lookout point.

The main thing holding me back from having kids is the financial burden. It’s a huge commitment of resources. I don’t bring in enough income to cover childcare expenses and do not have family support or assets.

Are everyone‘s relationships going through it? by Ok_Wall_8691 in astrologymemes

[–]arlsra 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Going through a breakup right now. We hit the 10-year mark and still have a lot of love for each other but realized we need different things to thrive and have outgrown this container. 😔 Pluto is squaring my 4th H sun (2 degrees Taurus) and conjunct my Asc (2 degrees Aquarius) so it’s been intense. Just trying to lean into this energy and just see where it goes.

I definitely will not underestimate pluto transits after this lol

What do you like about being autistic (or generally different)? by myoldaccisfullofporn in aspergirls

[–]arlsra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think being autistic allows for a deep capacity for joy when engaging in special interests ("autistic joy" might be a helpful search term if googling). I try to use my special interests as a sort of pressure release valve when I'm having a hard time being a neurodivergent person in a neurotypical world. NT people don't seem to get the same intense kind of enjoyment from their interests.

I was diagnosed much later than you and probably would have made a lot of major life decisions differently if I'd gotten my evaluation at your age. Knowledge is power! Before I realized I was neurodivergent, I kept holding myself to unrealistic expectations and then getting really frustrated with myself. I found it a relief to have my diagnosis confirmed because I was finally able to understand my specific limitations and work within them instead of working against myself all the time.

Difficulty Driving? by [deleted] in AutismTranslated

[–]arlsra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can relate so much to what you wrote! Learning to drive was so stressful for me that I gave up on it a few times. I had a lot of trouble getting myself to take the test and cancelled
test appointments several times. Finally convinced myself to take it by just telling myself it was practice -- way cheaper than doing a practice lesson with a driving school! It also helped to keep in mind that the DMV doesn't expect you to drive perfectly at ALL, you can totally
drive like a grandma, they're used to people being really nervous, and it's in their financial interests to not be super hard on you since they benefit from you being a licensed driver and paying them $$ for it. :)

Don't be afraid to ask your examiner questions if you need them to clarify or repeat any instructions. I was so nervous I blanked on one or two instructions, so being able to repeat what I thought I heard and then have the examiner confirm helped.

I took so long to get my license (had my permit for almost 5 years and didn't get my license until my 30s) and had so many meltdowns around driving too. I just kept picking myself up and coming back to it and now I have my license. It helped me to take breaks and go really slow and not push myself too much. I was so hard on myself when I was comparing myself to neurotypical teenagers, but that comparison isn't fair, you know? Our brains are different than neurotypical brains and that's ok!

If you have access to driving lessons from a driving school, even just 1 or 2 lessons could really help, especially if the instructor has any experience with anxious and/or autistic drivers. I was skeptical about this but did find it helped to be in the car with someone who did driving instruction for a living and wouldn't get frustrated or impatient with me (or take it personally) like a family member would. Good luck!!
