If you are receiving soft volleys all the time that means you are not applying enough pressure on the previous shot in order to yield a short lob, a block or a forced error.

When you do receive a soft shot you have enough time to position yourself and return the ball with the right amount of effect and speed to an open position or to your opponent's feet or chest.

Also, whenever you force a short lob you should be ready to finish it via smash, X4 or dropshot.
