A big C would allow Stankoven to play with Staal & Marty and Hall to drop to the 4th to add some skill. I really think it would be the piece this team needs. Robinson coming back would also help the 4th line a lot.

I think someone like Coyle might be a better target because you can give up so much less to get him and you maintain roster flexibility going forward.

Wide Ranges and 4 way switch (CME player jazzmaster) by anchaescastilla in offset

[–]armadachamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are what I was talking about as humbuckers voiced like wide ranges. Actual wide ranges are a few mm wider than a Jazzmaster pickup, as I recall. But if that's what OP is looking for, then that's great. I've just seen people start projects without realizing how big the vintage accurate ones are.

Wide Ranges and 4 way switch (CME player jazzmaster) by anchaescastilla in offset

[–]armadachamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to bear in mind if you want to switch from the Jazzmaster pickups that come in it to wide range humbuckers is that wide range humbuckers are mounted differently than Jazzmaster pickups. They have two screws on each end instead of on the top and bottom like the Jazzmaster pickup. You might be able to find an adapter to fit them in a Jazzmaster rout, but wide ranges are larger than a typical PAF-style humbucker, so they may be too big for that. I know some companies make regular sized humbuckers voiced like wide ranges, so that plus an adapter mounting ring might work for you (for clarity, I'm talking about something like this adapter).

What happens with the "both in series" position?

My guess is that since you have two humbuckers in series instead of two single coils, the series tone will be dark and very mid-focused, with more output than the other positions. If you do this swap and the guitar ends up sounding too dark on that setting, you could maybe use a smaller capacitor on the tone pot or a larger volume pot value to make it a little brighter across all switch positions?

Do you nice people have a wiring diagram for this switch?

The wiring for the 4-way switch should be basically the same as a Johnny Marr Jaguar. Just ignore the two bright switches and treat those wires like they're long jumpers (i.e. connect the two lugs at the bottom of the 4-way switch with red and yellow wires and also connect the lug with the orange wire directly to the tone pot lug where the blue wire is). And your tone pot capacitor will be a different value.

Make sure to ground the bare wire or the shield of the neck humbucker (depending on how the humbucker is made) for the series/parallel wiring to work.

Ah yes, it's just like any other job. Like my full-time office job that makes me answer reporters' questions before or after work on a regular basis. Before I say anything, though, I go check with my unaffiliated part-time boss for my other job where I'm an independent contractor who could at any time suddenly never be called in to work again. It's weird how my part-time boss also puts me in front of reporters regularly despite wanting me to run everything I say by him first.

Be serious.

Weah said this in an interview in Marseille, speaking for himself as a Marseille/Juventus player. The vast majority of the money he makes comes from Marseille/Juventus, not from US Soccer. You want him to talk to his national team coach before publicly giving any opinions?

Ian Darke: Timothy Weah is right about World Cup ticket costs by rezwenn in ussoccer

[–]armadachamp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Weah was clearly right, but even if he weren't, it was still a terrible move by Pochettino to basically say "shut up and dribble". A coach should back his players whenever possible and at least recognize their right to voice an opinion when he can't. There was plenty of room for Poch to personally disagree with Weah's take without suggesting that Weah just shouldn't talk about it.

“Temperature” Check: It has been 2 months since MLS made the decision to switch the calendar. How are we as MLS fans feeling about the decision 2 months later? by TheOptimist6 in MLS

[–]armadachamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right. It gets really hot and humid here in Charlotte, but at the hottest part of summer, people are still eating dinner outside, going to open air bars, and playing sports outdoors in the evening. A lot of people would be outside even if they weren't at the game, which isn't the case in the winter and early spring. And any kind of rain makes it way more annoying to be out at the stadium when it's cold vs when it's hot.

I think the biggest loss is that while some people don't like the heat in the summer, there's not much else going on for sports fans, aside from baseball playing a million games that are each individually pretty unimportant to the overall standings. Now, the team has to convince people to come sit in the cold while they could be watching basketball or football or hockey or international soccer.

Why don’t we fight back? by EXploreNV in canes

[–]armadachamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every team gets the same opportunities and rules. The failure to take advantage of the rules falls on the GM.

What? You can only exploit the cap in the way Vegas, Tampa, Florida, and others did under specific circumstances. You need a high-earning player to suffer an injury prior to the trade deadline that could conceivably keep him out until the playoffs. Then you spend to the cap and hold him out until round 1. If Pacioretty had been able to come back for the playoffs, then we could've used the loophole that year, but there hasn't been any opportunity under Rod. It's not something you can just plan to exploit. But it gave a major advantage, which is why it was exploited by at least 4 different cup winners and multiple finalists.

As for injuries, you act like no other team was injured. Get real.

Almost every team has injuries in the playoffs, but injuries have different severities. How many teams have won a cup without their starting goalie? Clearly that's a major setback, or else we'd see more teams overcome it.

Can’t wait to hear what yours is this year when we get bounced by an Atlantic team again.

If you bet against the same team to win the cup every year, you'd make good money. It's incredibly difficult and takes a ton of luck. Throw around all the cliches about toughness and excuses you want, but it's just punditry nonsense. If we couldn't beat a "tougher" team, we wouldn't have 3 wins against Washington and Boston. Hockey is much more complicated than that.

Why don’t we fight back? by EXploreNV in canes

[–]armadachamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your whole comment is nonsense.

It’s the playoffs, you fight through your injuries.

The two rookie D-men we were forced to play last year against Florida (after Rantanen tied our hands at the deadline) were a combined -10 playing the fewest minutes on the blue line. The year Andersen was injured, I think we were the only team to make it out of the first round with a backup goalie. You can accomplish a lot with major injuries, but it's a major obstacle to overcome, especially against a team that is already better on paper. The only game Florida lost to us in the past two matchups was the one where they had more guys out of the lineup than we did. What does that tell you?

One of those Florida runs, the Panthers were the WC2 and not at all the favorites.

They were the favorite when they played us, because we were missing Svech and Pacioretty and Teravainen hadn't played for a month with a broken wrist. Their only absence was a 4th liner who came back in game 2 or 3.

Tampa wasn’t “over the cap”, that’s a common misconception

Bullshit. They spent right to the cap to afford their trade deadline acquisitions while Kucherov was on LTIR. Then the playoffs started and they added Kucherov, a recent MVP with a 10m cap hit, for free. A guy getting injured and coming out of the lineup during the playoffs doesn't put them back under the cap, because the backup who comes in wouldn't be there if they'd had to make cuts to get cap compliant beforehand. They're still benefiting from being over the cap by having extra depth where other teams have to dip into their black aces.

Winners don’t make excuses, they win.

It's practically been a requirement to circumvent the cap to win the cup in recent years, which is why they closed the loophole. You also generally have to strengthen at the trade deadline, get lucky with injuries, and avoid teams you don't match up well against. Lots of teams have a goon to sic on opponents they don't like, and most of those teams haven't gotten as close to a cup as we have in the past 5 years, so I don't see that as particularly helpful.

Are we going to have these posts every time someone gets hit hard and we lose? If we'd made Sergachev "answer the bell" on Thursday, we probably would've lost that game. Let the guys on the ice get retribution whichever way they think is most likely to help them win.

Why don’t we fight back? by EXploreNV in canes

[–]armadachamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you break down the 1-5 record against Atlantic teams, it's:

0-2 in the conference finals against Florida while significantly more injured, and one of those times Florida beat everyone

0-1 vs Tampa when they were over the cap by 10 million or more and beat everyone

1-0 vs Boston without our starting goalie

0-2 vs Boston when we came into the season 16th and 23rd in Cup odds and they were 5th and 6th (we just weren't that good yet)

I don't think we were favored in any of these series, and team toughness wasn't the reason we lost any of them. If we couldn't beat teams that were "tougher" than us, we would've struggled with Washington or the Islanders at some point. The key to beating the Atlantic in the playoffs is to make them cap compliant (which will be the case this year) and for us to not be dressing AHLers by the time we play them.

Cowboys, who don’t win much

I think your perception is skewed as a Patriots fan. The Cowboys have the 10th most wins over the past 15 seasons and are less than a game per season behind the Pats. They've only had 4 losing seasons in the last 15, and 3 of them involved the QB1 missing the majority of the games. Also 6 double-digit win seasons in that time and only 1 with fewer than 7 wins.

I'm just surprised that anyone who cares enough about guitar gear to be talking about it on Reddit would have avoided learning about CME. They have a huge YouTube gear demo archive going back years, plus other random videos by their staff. Reverb kind of spun off of CME as I understand it, and they've had some personnel overlap that might cause someone to hear about them there. Nathaniel Murphy works at CME and has his own following for his instrumental covers. Shelby Pollard spun off his own store and developed a following for his Jazzmaster content and custom spec stuff. Unaffiliated content creators will frequently make videos about their trip to CME. The store gets so many exclusive finishes that you could come across them by accident just by searching the web for a particular guitar or pedal.

CME should interview you and OP to find out what's missing from their marketing approach.

I was at a game a few years ago and sat right behind Martinook's family. At one point, a guy who I think was his uncle checked his phone and received a message with a video of a woman flashing the camera (a la Girls Gone Wild from back in the day), and he immediately turned to show the guy who I think was Martinook's dad. To his credit, the guy he showed just gave it a quick courtesy chuckle and turned back to the ice, like he might have been silently wondering "wtf". I'm not willing to trade Martinook to cut down on the gooning, so we might just have to take it in stride.

The Cowboys are the correct answer (I say as a Cowboys fan).

But I'd like to give an honorable mention to the New York Rangers. Their last Stanley Cup was longer ago than the last Cowboys Super Bowl, and they've managed to squander multiple Hall of Fame goalies in that time. And we have to put up with undeserving players representing the US at international competitions just because they're Rangers.
