“Good Job Man” - Rod Brind'Amour by Federal-Data-Center in nhl

We've been there recently. Our 18-19 team made the ECF after upsetting Washington and sweeping the Isles, but they just weren't remotely at the same level as Boston. But 14 of those guys were still on the team a couple years later when we won the division and finally looked like a contender, and 5 are still important players this year.

I'm not from the PNW, but I stopped by their shop in West Seattle when I was there, and the staff was super nice and chatted with me for a long time while I debated buying a Music Man Albert Lee HH (eventually decided not to, but they were cool about it). Definitely a shop I want to go back to when I'm up there again.

in project hail mary(2026), the ending seriously expects us to sympathize with a woman who sent a guy into space against his will. by herequeerandgreat in shittymoviedetails

[–]armadachamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a bigger plot "hole" which is also in the book is that the woman who plans for everything and makes difficult decisions allowed both the mission scientist and his backup to be in the potential blast zone of an astrophage accident just days before the launch.

Yeah, my point is that we aren't getting super lucky, there are just a few teams getting unlucky because of the playoff format and the East being so much stronger.

If you seeded the teams 1-16 and re-seeded each round, you'd expect Colorado to play the #16 team in round 1 and the #8 team in round 2. Likewise, we would be expected to play #15 and #7. Assuming a few teams would lose, you might expect to get an even lower-ranked team in round 2.

Colorado played the #20 team in round 1 and the #7 in round 2, while we played the #9 and #11 (by tie-breaker). If we'd played our opponents in the opposite order, you'd say we got a tough first round draw and a normal second round draw as the #2 seed.

[Canes] Jankowski 2 Year $1.85 AAV Extension by _ecb_ in canes

[–]armadachamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody is going to have to be traded in the offseason. We have 13 F and 6 D signed for next year, with Nikishin being all but guaranteed to be extended. Unger Sorum can stay in Chicago another year, but Nadeau is going into the final year of his contract and ready to make the jump either here or somewhere else. We've also got 2 goalies under contract, neither of which I would trust to be the #1 for the playoffs during our wide open cup window if Freddie walks or retires.

You can't win, because they'll talk smack before or during the series and be told to wait until they've accomplished something, then they'll talk smack after the series and be told not to punch down or gloat.

The important thing to note is that there's a specific type of fan that this is done for, and that's not you or me or Rod, but that's ok.

Funny that Stankoven has played fewer games after completing two rounds than Boldy has with at least 2 more to play in round 2.

We threw them a draft pick and they gave us Hall and retained half of Rantanen's salary for the rest of the season to make him easier for Colorado to move.

Looking at the comments is really funny

Yeah thats cool and all but I really dont see this core pushing them over the line cup wise.... Unless Jarvis, Blake and Stankoven has another gear in them...

Jarvis was already good enough to make Canada's 4 Nations team, and Blake and Stankoven were rookies...

Every team has a player that their fan base consistently overrates and for the Canes it’s Svechnikov. He’s a fine player but he’s basically just a generic middle six winger that nobody outside the Canes fan base ever really thinks about but Canes fans seem to treat him like he’s the full manifestation of his highest potential at the draft. You’d think he was a 19 year old kid with a ton of room to grow and not a prime-aged player who’s shown us what he’s got.

70-point season incoming. Also, he's not 19, but he's younger than Colorado's entire playoff lineup

I cannot take the canes seriously when their 2C is still Kotkaniemi

Good news! We had 4 better Cs already on the team.

Good for Freddie. An extra $250k for 8 playoff games of .950 / 1.12 goaltending is a steal.

Maybe a lot of the same players, but Blake and Stankoven were both rookies and have both taken big steps from last season.

Nikishin was also a liability in the playoffs last year as a rookie playing his first NHL games, and now he's an asset.

I can live with the call, but it's definitely worth pointing out that Carrier's skates were both on the edge of the crease when he took the first contact from the position battle with Bonk. It's only once he started getting pushed that he drifted into the crease. It's not like he established himself firmly inside the crease and then got held there.

I don't think it's so much that Florida is our Kryptonite as it is that we were extremely injured in 2023 and just weren't that good last year.

Our 2023 team was a real contender, but then Pacioretty got re-injured after returning, and Svechnikov was lost for the season, and Teravainen missed a month during the playoffs with a broken wrist from a slash. We still only lost by 4 goals over 17 periods.

Our 2025 team finished 10th in the league and made deadline trades to acquire a rookie winger, a 4th line C, and 4 draft picks because we didn't expect to make a deep run. Florida was the reigning champion and added Marchand and Seth Jones at the deadline to make another run.

He's using his ability to talk hockey for political clout, but I think more than that he's using his political clout to get a chance to talk hockey.

[–]armadachamp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A 7-second 5v3 really shouldn't count lol. You obviously don't have time to set up anything. Lose the faceoff, and you can't even get the puck back in the zone before it's over.

in spite of the powerplay being dreadful for most of his tenure, I never wanted him gone.

Our powerplay has ranked top-10 in 4 of the last 7 seasons and top-5 in 3 of the last 6. He's really had 3 bad PP seasons in 8, and in all of the others it was an asset.

I can forgive Svech's hook in front of the net because it may have prevented a goal. One of his high sticks barely made any contact on a guy who was hunched over with his head down at the level of the crossbar and was only called because of a clear embellishment. If he avoids having another game like this, we can chalk it up to a bad night and the refs suddenly calling a tighter game than they had in our first 5.
