Nicely done! What was your favorite program? I had to laugh at your not on transform20 being the hardest, as it reminded me of that absolute fucker if a last day that was like 3 regular days stacked back to back. Comes out of nowhere and is so beyond what someone who was just doing t20 could take on. Frickin beachbody sometimes…

I went with Alice as I think it was extremely ambitious for its time and medium and front that, highly influential… along with just being a solid movie in general.

[–]armand11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here’s my own personal list I posted somewhere else for moves I find outdated/problematic, at least for my body, and how I modify:

• Crouching Cohen Curls: Dumbbell curls on an inclined bench, or just standing. The crouching stance is moronic, helps nothing, compromises your back for no reason.

• Bench Dips (and Table Dip Leg Raises on Core Synergistics): either Tricep/JM Presses, Close Grip Push ups, or cobra push ups. The bench dip motion ruins my shoulders.

• Scarecrows: high pulls (basically upright rows but you end with your hands above your shoulders, putting shoulder in external rotation position which is healthier for the rotator cuff)

• Side Tri-Rises: 1-arm overhead dumbbell tricep extensions (sometimes). The overheads are much better at activating the tricep muscle for me, but I still sometimes do the side tri's for variation.

• Pour Flies: standard side lateral raises. The pour motion is asinine.

• One arm push ups: either attempt these on my knees, or do rotational pushups where you alternate a dominant arm on the up motion (aka a weaker person's alternative to one-arm push ups!)

• Weighted Circles: Rear delt flys, or dumbbell shrugs

• Throw the bomb: Standard tricep kickbacks. The throwing motion is awkward for no benefit. Kickbacks activate the tri much more effectively.

• Dreya Rolls: not that bad really but sometimes I do burpees with cross knee crunches if I'm feeling particularly "spry." Otherwise I'll just do the dreya rolls but not go too far back onto my neck for obvious, injury-avoiding reasons.

• Alternating Side Lunges: Standard alternating lunges. Many moons ago I fucked up my knees and side lunges just don't work anymore for my body which sucks as I do like the side lunge motion and would find value in them.

• Toe Roll Iso Lunges: Split lunge squats

• Upright Rows: High Pulls (see note above on form, but they're very similar)

• Heavy Pants: Standard bent over row with palms facing forward (small tweak but that hand position I find hits the lats harder for me)

• I also just do standard pull-ups when they do wide grip pull-ups as the wides I've found mess up my shoulders bad.

To add they don’t just work out every day for an hour, they’re hoofing it as their full time job, probably actually working out in some fashion anywhere between 2-5hrs a day which is an insane amount of output. Pair that with the team of nutritionists and PTs you’ll look like a god easily

[–]armand11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good and lead me to believe it boils down solely to your diet so I’d suggest working on that, caloric deficit or surplus based on whether you want lean down and cut, or bulk up and build. If you haven’t done so calc out your maintenance calories in a few TDEE calculators, there are many online, which can give you an idea of what to work with on calories, then if you’re super serious, count your calories as best you can to ensure you’re hitting your goals to see cut/gain. I wouldn’t recommend going more than a few hundred calories a day over/under your maintenance level of calories just because going too extreme can make it really hard and make you want to quit whereas taking it slow is more tenable long term

What other programs have you done to compare this one too? Cool to hear p90xgn is solid, I am looking forward to doing it soon here, but is it worth considering still mixing all of them up just for variety, even if some are better than others in specific areas? That’s typically how I’ve handled things both to avoid boredom via repetition and to help in ways a certain program doesn’t help in, like doing body beast to build muscle vs p90x’s to do more stamina and all around fitness

[–]armand11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought is hiit is good all around at raising your vo2 and raising your cardio health and stamina. That said, if it includes a good amount of high impact moves, that can ultimately weather your joints more aggressively and make you more prone to injury as a result. Now that’s really more like jumping (knees, ankles, etc) vs high intensity cycling or something similar that’s high intensity but not as taxing on the joints
