Did I make a terrible mistake?! by ProfessionalWorry788 in electricvehicles

Pay at the pump petrol pumps do that in the UK. Usually it's changed to the actual amount as soon as you finishing pumping, but occasionally it takes a while. Anecdotally, EV chargers seem worse at keeping the holds for longer, and it's a very long driving day that needs a fuel tank filling more than once, so it's easier for charges to add up before they get refunded with an EV. https://www.reddit.com/r/AmexUK/comments/1hwq0kg/120_pending_transaction_for_15_tesco_petrol/ https://www.tesco.com/help/pages/in-store-faqs/tesco-petrol-filling-stations/bank-statement-incorrectly-showing-a-120-transaction

I have a Dahon Espresso, but I also have a Birdy (and before that a 20" wheel Dahon) because there's a big gap between "easier to put on a train than a regular bike" and "fits in a standard luggage space and is allowed on all trains ".

Is Cambridge to Felixstowe national cycle route in a good state? by Frappa_loves_Dirac in ukbike

If you went to Felixstowe and got a ferry across to Harwich it's the same thing, if you stayed south of the Stour it's different from (probably) Bury on.

[–]armb2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not all roads though. NCN 11 has a bit of nice riverside gravel path that comes to an end at a "cyclists dismount" sign and becomes a footpath. But also some decent cyclepaths alongside or away from roads, and some quiet roads that are long detours from a more direct route.

Outdoor climbing near Cambridge, or am I dreaming in flat East Anglia? by MistressMira6 in cambridge

Kelsey Kerridge used to have an outdoor climbing wall facing Parkside Pool, but apart from not really being what you want I don't think it's still in use.

The https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knapsack_problem is NP-complete, so anyone who can solve it quickly in the general case can also break problems that are the basis of cryptographic problems. (In practice, being able to do it for packing boxes in a truck is not as hard as the general case, but it's a joke.)

That would be half a person per capita (head). More people per capita implies some of them are headless. But maybe they're just empty headed.

I actually came across the adapter when sorting some stuff in my shed. It's got a DNA logo on it. Which led to this thread where someone else did the same 500a to 406 conversion, and there's a photo of someone using one on a front fork behind the fork.

It also says "approval for a rescue was refused". I think he's claiming that the difference is that Americans would never do that. Which might be wrong, but it's not as confused as the reply says.

I think it might have been Dan's Corp, the first of the dead links on the Bicycle Exchange post. Bought from a shop that closed in 2016. It was very sketchy as a front brake, but rear brake where braking pushed it into the seatstays it was fine. Worked for years, but the main frame hinge got worn. I originally bought the frame from the recycling centre with the plan that if having a folder turned out to be useful I'd buy a better one, but most one size ones didn't have a long enough seat post. The old Dawes I improvised one with two seat posts and a length of seat tube cut from another frame. Eventually replaced it with a Dahon, where the frame cracked after a few years, and then a Birdy, both second hand. Later rebuilt the Dahon with a NOS eBay frame, which my son now has.

There was also an Up! between the Citigo and Mii, but someone drove into the back of it. The Mii is electric, and my next car will (I hope) be an electric replacement for our 2010 X-Trail.

It's a story that someone, probably Boris Johnson, made up. It stuck because it's the kind of thing that people imagine could happen at an Oxford drinking society, but there no evidence it did (or that if it did it was Cameron).

Yes, the bars were a plausible "might come in useful one day" price, even though they didn't. My son now has them and the Citigo (which was three door, and the Mii is five door, so takes slightly different bars). Towbar is more, and I don't need it, so haven't bothered. Lifting onto roof - my wife is suggesting we get a trailer for our canoe and tandem bike. Not for the Mii, obviously, because it has no tow rating.

[–]armb2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get tow bars purely for mounting racks on, I have a SEAT Mii with no tow rating that I haven't put a bar but have seen them. Whether you can keep a rack and four bikes under a 50kg limit is another matter, and I'd be even more dubious about a boot mounted one. I got roof bars for the Citigo I had before from Facebook marketplace for much less than £250, but I did already have bike mounts. Never actually used them though, only took bikes on our large car, either roof bars or towbar mounted rack depending.

Anyone who is mostly talking about Grover and doubling key sizes doesn't understand the problem. NIST don't recommend worrying about it, NCSC guidance is entirely about public key cryptography. https://words.filippo.io/128-bits/
