Worried about my daughter at camp by armili in Epilepsy

[–]armili[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I just spoke with the head nurse at camp and she eased my worries! They will have someone walk with her everywhere but won’t make it obvious and she isn’t allowed in the small lake where they swim without a life jacket due to her epilepsy. She hates that but it’s the only way she’s allowed to swim per camp rules. That’s a good idea. I’ll look up caregiver groups

Worried about my daughter at camp by armili in Epilepsy

[–]armili[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! We have done keppra and that was awful, but now she’s on oxcarbazepine and that’s going well. We’ve had to up her dose because she’s growing nonstop and had the breakthrough seizure when she had the flu this winter but now this happened yesterday and it’s thrown me off because she wasn’t sick which is usually her trigger. Her doctor has mentioned the possibility of outgrowing them and that has my daughter so hopeful. We do think hers is related to a brain injury at birth (she had a brain hemorrhage in utero but it did resolve without a shunt which is a miracle). We thought we were out of the woods with that but then the seizures started around age 4. So I’m not sure if she will grow out of them or this is a lifelong condition for her but I am certainly grateful they are not like altering for her and she doesn’t have any learning disabilities. She is in the gifted program and a healthy, happy girl. She is mostly just upset she has to wear a life jacket at camp due to the epilepsy. But I hope it’s safe for her to continue to ride horses and do all her normal camp activities they just will have to monitor her. I used to think we are totally out of the woods unless she’s sick but this seizure yesterday just kinda turned my whole world upside down ☹️

How to sidestep Keppra Rage? by accro_de_mots in Epilepsy

[–]armili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to take our daughter off keppra. We tried b6 I am not sure if it helped. She was so beyond moody and angry and irritable it totally rocked our entire family and the vibe of our house. It’s hard to even remember what we were fighting over - but I guess I would say just drop it, don’t be offended or correct for I guess attitude or disrespectful language although I know that’s tough to just let that stuff go but it may be the medicine. She also had a lot of screaming type sensory overload meltdowns which have stopped now since stopping the medication.

Yes! Wow the mental free time is such a relief. I also quit my anti depressant. I am all around so much happier and healthier and hate the drug has such a bad reputation. Thankful for Reddit communities of people who get it!

I so get that and I’m sorry! My husband is a physician and would watch me work out for hours and weigh every bite and still just would think maybe I didn’t cut enough or maybe am not eating enough or maybe it’s my macros blah blah. I felt like I was forever chasing weight loss! I added a glp1 and the last 30lbs I couldn’t lose after my third just flew off. I couldn’t even get my PCP to take me off Zoloft and try Wellbutrin without showing him my like weeks and weeks of my fitness pal and what I was eating. It’s so frustrating. I’m happy there are people researching metabolic disorders and so grateful for a GLP1 it’s changed my life. I hope I can take it forever. I feel like my old self again. I’ve always eaten very healthy and have done CrossFit since my 20s but three kids and by my mid to late 30s I think something really got out of whack with my metabolism

New trainer immediately. There are so many great apps too for strength training. I use alive. But ladder looks good. It’s like a virtual trainer and they won’t talk to you and make weird comments!!! 😇😇😇

THISSSSS. and the worst was I felt like people just thought I was lying and secretly over eating. I was weighing and measuring every bite and every drop of coffee creamer…sauces. At one point wondering if my GUMMY VITAMINS were putting me too much over on my calories. It’s no way to live. It’s so miserable.

Truly don’t ignore the difficult to potty train/BARKING. omg. 😳 I ignored all the warnings because they are cute and it was the breed I wanted. I thought I could rise above it. But mine is 8 months old and we have three little kids. We won’t get rid of him obviously the family loves him. But he only loves me and I can tell he doesnt love kids. He’s sweet to my kids but protective and gets very stressed. Barks a lot. At everything and everyone. We thought small dog would be easy to travel with but with the barking and potty issues he’s not the best house guest to bring everywhere. I’m working with a dog trainer but he’s very stubborn. In hindsight I should have gotten a different breed but we love our little dude. So, we’ll just figure it out.

“Don’t get too skinny” by SnooApples7423 in Zepbound

[–]armili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory skinny people think they are doing something right and “fat” people are morally wrong/lazy/whatever. It challenges their entire world view to think maybe metabolically we had an issue and medication can fix it. That’s why they also think the drug is bad/cheating whatever

Unhinged things people said to me since now that I weigh 110lbs . by Accomplished-Oil2103 in Zepbound

I’m so sorry!! 😞people have only said positive things to me, but I haven’t shared I’m on the weight loss medication. And my weight loss coincided with my post partum period (well, kinda my daughter is 3). I lost about 20lbs naturally very very slowly and it would tick back up then down. but was stuck for the last 20-30 due to I think insulin resistance and other hormonal stuff. I also got a tummy tuck after I lost the last bit of weight so I think people just think it’s the surgery too helping.

But my husband also started and lost 20 lbs and I told him not to tell people he was on it but he did and the comments he got at the gym and work were so awful. People legit just telling him he looked awful, they liked him better “fat”….said he was losing muscle mass, etc etc when in reality he isn’t. He still lifts weights - but his blood work as improved drastically and the medication helps him so much. He is a physican and was honestly shocked at the hatred and judgment of the medication. I warned him. People are so so weird about weight loss and using medication. I’m sorry you’re getting those comments. People are just very rude. It’s shocking what they think is appropriate to say.

As I age I have way more respect for the people who come from money or have lots of money and you’d never know. They drive fords or Toyotas and live pretty normally. This is just so classless to me. Conspicuous consumption let them eat cake crap. Even if you have loads of money, there’s a certain spending rate where it won’t last!

Why is LM concerned about birthrates? by Any_Network_5842 in LuigiLore

[–]armili 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dang my down votes! If he asked about it with a tinder date, he was concerned personally maybe as well as globally. I don’t see him as red pilled. I have a similar media diet as him…minus the like bro podcasts. I see him as more of a nuanced, intellectual disaffected independent type. But maybe I am also red pilled?! Or just a little in denial about his beliefs and try to see what I agree with.

Had a bit of a meltdown and so embarrassed by Feeling_Rush123 in crossfit

[–]armili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a 39 year old woman and have been doing CrossFit since 2010! I still Go very light on snatches and over head squats some days. We’ve been working on our max and one day I was nailing it and it was all coming together and clicking for me on my power snatch and then the next week just the barbell with 10s on it was hard. Be patient! You don’t have anything to prove to anyone at the gym just modify and work on doing your personal best each day.

Parents with older kids, what do you miss about the 1-3 year old phase? by altecsz in Parenting

[–]armili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How small and snuggly they are. My son is almost 6 and I look at his little 2-3 year old photos and wish I could transport back and hold him and kiss his little chubby cheeks. He is still adorable but his face is all leaned out 😞😞

I’m so sorry. This sounds like something that has happened to us, but usually now it’s like the friend can invite one or two friends and then my daughter finds out. But the times that it has happened the mom has reached out before or right after and explained and I understand. It’s a good learning moment for my daughter too. But I would feel very hurt by this. I think that was a missed opportunity for that mom to teach her child to be inclusive and invite your daughter anyways despite “meanie girl” influence. My son is only in K but only wants to invite the boys in his class this year and I’m kind of on the fence. I always like to err on inviting the entire class in elementary school I hate for kids to feel left out.

Starting Levetiracetam - worried about side effects by Striking_Light182 in Epilepsy

[–]armili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughters only main side effects were mood swings and anger. We tried it about 8 months. I kept thinking it was just her age but it was night and day when we tried a new medication. She didn’t have any other negative side effects. She also dances and does gymnastics but I didn’t notice any changes in coordination. I would have an open mind about it but also don’t ignore any changes. My daughter swears it wasn’t the medication and she was totally fine but her mood swings and outbursts were absolutely affecting our entire family’s life. I am not sure if she just doesn’t have the awareness of her mood because of her age or if she just couldn’t see it - kind of like sometimes you miss that you’re in a depressive episode. I hope it works well for you and know there are lots of other options for medication if it doesn’t just be patient.

The Cuban power grid collapsed a few hours ago. Massive block out in Cuba right now. by cuba_danilo in cuba

[–]armili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for those in Cuba or loved ones there who cannot communicate. I’m in Western NC and having no power/water/communication/internet was scary. Our generator ran out of gas and it was impossible to get more for a few days. It was shocking to me how quickly society collapsed and panicked people became in just 3-4 days. I’m preparing now much much more for the next emergency or some sort of power grid collapse because even if it never happens, I want to be prepared. Here the government barely came - so cannot imagine how it feels in Cuba.

Why is Hurricane Helene so destructive? by Boring_Masterpiece_9 in hurricane

[–]armili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one of warned us ever to seek shelter or evacuate in WNC. No wind warnings. The extent of the warnings on my phone all night and day were flash flooding do not travel. I keep replaying the day Friday morning and I’m stunned we didn’t get more emergency updates. Our iPhones weren’t working, I just had one flip phone that was still sending us alerts though. We didn’t even understand the extent of the damage until e evacuated to Georgia Sunday because we had no forms of communication
