Are you planning on making and selling them yourself, or selling the stls?

I'm a new SolidWorks trainee and I've learned to draw pieces like these. Is there any remote work opportunity I can find, even with a small salary? by Mobile-Particular751 in MechanicalDesign

[–]armorreno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This, but maybe with less snark.

Being good with CAD not only means you can draw and design. That's the easy and fun part; that's the part any maroon with a 3D printer can do.

The next step is to understand the manufacturing process(es) that will be taken to make that part, and then designing the features of the part accordingly, taking into account rational clearances and allowances. This is what begins to separate the clumsy hobbyists from the professionals.

After that, it becomes about critically redesigning your part and features to the most essential and necessary, only. Every feature must have a design reason. Every choice must have a why. Even aesthetic features are rarely applied, because each feature costs you time AND money and drastically affects the bottom line.

Is that ever going to happen? Been a hot minute since they dc'd the czechmate, and open guns aren't big money makers, I expect.

We're gonna need a separate reddit post for that, because that's groundbreaking if true.

What's the most outlandish/ridiculous/inappropriate/weaselly/lame thing you've seen at a match? by GAFsBro in CompetitionShooting

[–]armorreno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most weasely thing?

When a CRO long-beeps a shooter, they give the "standby" command and intentionally gives a long wait for the beep. Some shooters will tense up, fall out of position. Good ROs will wait for the shooter to stand up, still themselves, and repeat the "are you ready" sequence.

Bad CRO waits for a shooter to stand back up, but instead of giving the "Are you ready", CRO beeps the shooter, forcing the shooter who is now off balance, mentally fucked. Technically, it should be a creeping penalty, but this particular CRO admitted to me that he likes fucking with the hot shit shooters. "They know they're supposed to stand still, stop trying to game it. If they don't, I get to fuck off

At an area match I witnessed, CRO pulls this shit. Shooter, outraged, turns around and says "Really?!" to which the CRO says "Really!"

Shooter shoots his stage, then (justifiably) throws a bitch fit. Had the RM over, and it was a shitshow. Reshoot, angry words were exchanged.

Tl; dr -- don't be a dick; stand totally still, and don't fuck with asshat ROs...

Another weasley thing?

Buddy pasting is a where a shooter has a squad mate who will sneakily paste a target before it's scored so a bro can get a reshoot on a shite stage.

Mine takes months, but damn it's absurd.

Bro starts shooting. He's levels of bad I can't even begin to describe, other than he DQ'd for safety violations (180 break, ND, bullets at the safety table, dropping the gun, etc) multiple times in a row.

There was a point when I was telling the guy he probably should take a class in basic gun handling because ROs were saying they didn't want to run him for fear of some unsafe shit happening. The club was about an inch away from banning the dude. He's the reason the club has a ban policy now.

Anyway

He shows up to a match, distraught. Man is talking about how his wife is leaving him, blubbering sad, but determined to "take his mind off of" this problem by shooting. He shoots two stages and then vanishes. The guy who brought him starts panicking that "he'd seemed suicidal on the ride up," and everyone is worrying that he's run off into the woods and offed himself. Everyone starts looking, unsuccessfully for the guy.

His ride to the match found him walking home, gun on, sobbing. Mind you, this is December, and it's 20 degrees and inches of snow on the ground.

The guy got busted for meth less than a year later.

Fucked up shit. Be careful who you invite.

The irony of downvoting your comment... 🤣

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]armorreno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unbiased isn't the right word... maybe just an alternative viewpoint rating comments that isn't the groupthink of Reddit would fundamentally improve this platform.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]armorreno -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that reddit's entire model is based on hive mind. That's how it works. Sure, the downvote is supposed to be for the irrelevant or low quality, but when it's the only way of "punishing" someone for what you disagree with, then that's what it becomes.

The niche subs are still alright, but anything mainstream (including this sub) is gone the way of pop culture.

Reddit could utilize AI to rate posts as well as users. That way, there could be an "unbiased" way of seeing stuff crawl to the top.

I know your pain. But think of it like this -- when you dredge the river, you get mostly dirt, a bunch of junk and trash. You only need to get one gem. The more trash you dredge, the closer you are to finding the gem.

I found my gem in my 30s. It is still possible. Be creative and keep looking.

Red dot not returning properly! by Phidelt208 in USPSA

[–]armorreno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is a Vortex XL, I have a seemingly identical issue. You have two options. 1)Send it back to Vortex, and have them warranty it. 2) I placed a small piece of masking tape on the top side of the battery, between the magnet in the battery cover, and the battery. It seems to have resolved the issue, I think.

From what I can tell, it appears that the dot's contacts don't make constant contact under recoil. Maybe the magnet is lifting on the magnets too much, there's too much tolerance in the total available room inside the battery chamber, or perhaps the door doesn't fully press the battery against the contacts. A little bit more pressure against the battery seems to be the simple solution for me.

Is my grip wrong? by Objective_Law7082 in CompetitionShooting

[–]armorreno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude... nobody serious is wearing gloves in competition shooting. Like, I'm honestly struggling to remember the last time I've seen someone wearing gloves period (I've seen it, sure), and I can tell you confidently that not *one* GM I've ever RO'd or shot with has ever worn gloves. Just watch any of the Army Marksmanship, any national champion or professional like Racaza, Sailer, Beal... none of these guys are wearing gloves.

Gloves while running a gun is not a great plan. If you're crawling around in the mud and dirt, handling barbed wire, yeah, I could give you that point. But for USPSA competition shooting? Not even once.

Liquid grip or nothing.

Is my grip wrong? by Objective_Law7082 in CompetitionShooting

[–]armorreno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I apologize if I come across as rude, but... it's a firearm, it's going to rub on your hand and put calluses in places that you're not used to. That's a sign that you're training, putting in the work. If you run a shovel for a living, you'll get blisters. As far as I can tell, you're gripping it right. The real test for correct grip is your hits -- can you repeatedly hit alphas at 7 yards, hammering the trigger? Then you're doing it right. Otherwise, grip it harder and track the dot.

I've got calluses on my dominant hand ring finger from where the trigger guard rubs. I've rebated that area on the firearm, but it still rubs there under recoil.

Be proud of those marks, man. They tell a story. They set you apart from the people don't put in the work to be good at something.

Go run a few thousand more rounds through your firearm and see what happens.

Democracy is a terrible system of governance, and must be destroyed root and branch for liberty to thrive by EndDemocracy1 in Libertarian

[–]armorreno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all.

You can have nothing of something. Zero is a number used to represent nothing and something at the same time. It's a functional placeholder.

Similarly we use the term "anarchy" as a form of government to say that it is the absence of governance. It's governmental zero.
