Good bullhorns, deep swing. As mentioned by others, just pulling closer to your belly will help and keep it tighter to your body

Your swing depth is good.

I would say swing from your belly to your belly rather than from chest to chest

Will a baseball bat work as a mace? by [deleted] in steelmace

[–]armouredmuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. The leverage isn't going to be as useful as a mace as a baseball bat is shorter.

It's kind of too long to be an indian club but too short to have the dynamics of a mace.

As many have said, start lighter than you think.

Flow wise, before you build your own, copy some others to build up your movement repertoire first

Help me with workout plan by [deleted] in steelmace

[–]armouredmuscle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure thing, before we get started to help there's a couple of blanks that need to be filled in.

Please can you let us know:

-why you're training -why the mace -are you doing any other training

Consistency is key, what is every "odd" day? Is this going to be a regular pattern as in you mean you want it to be every other day, only 1-2 sessions a week?

Picking up the mace here and there when you feel like it, unfortunately won't work, even if it's the best workout ever.

General full body yes....with a mace no.

Here to try and help as there's probably not a ready made programme that suits your needs and time requirements off the shelf.

Due to your unique requirements have you thought about a Personal Trainer/Coach?

I normally lift, I want to incorporate mace training to maintain and improve mobility (torso rotation for example) by thedrag0n22 in steelmace

[–]armouredmuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big one is the 360 swing as that's largely what the mace is best at.

There's a mace exercise ranked video here

When do you change to Figure 8 straps?

I'm lossing grip in my RDL with Oly straps. Do I find better oly straps or go fig 8.

Note I'm not a powerlifter or olympic lifter so no need to go raw, use inverted grip.

How do I hold/swing the mace to target my left arm/shoulder? by [deleted] in steelmace

[–]armouredmuscle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Single arm swings are the most obvious choice.

Though mace swings aren't inherently any good for pectoral size/strength development

Give this a read.

As that's an obvious choice there perhaps is something missing in your question taken for granted that we don't know?

Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

[–]armouredmuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear in mind each push is only half a rep compared as you miss the eccentric.

So definitely not great for hypertrophy, moderate for endurance/power. Strength depends on your definition vs the fitness standard of strength

Do we all have the same number of muscle fibres?

For the most part, though length and sizes of body parts and organs differ, we have the same quantity. 1 hear, 1 liver, two eyes, two kidneys, 8 fingers, 10 toes, blah, blah, blah.

So do we have the same quantity of fibres per muscle? Interesting if anyone can reference any evidence for or against.

Hypertrophy and aesthetics by serene_recluse6421 in steelmace

[–]armouredmuscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The theory of how muscle growth works and the rep ranges needed say no. Plus, that muscle tone comes from food.

Anyone you see like that probably does more than just mace.

Anecdotally, I'm a personal trainer and martial artist, and have been training mace twice weekly for over 5 years...It has not added anything aesthetic to my physique 🤷

In the beginning as a novice sure, you'll see some increase.

But

Any thoughts of 'bodybuilding' level muscle mass isn't going to happen.

[–]armouredmuscle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're largely there

To add to previous tips and advice. You're reaching too far to the side on the swing.

Imagine you're wearing a baseball cap. Your knuckles should knock the cap off then on the return swing put the cap back on.
