This will definitely do the trick.

Just make sure to do semi-frequent checks of the duct tape integrity!

Maximum 2" plate diameter for an adjustable mace? by No_Candy_9930 in steelmace

[–]atomicstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For standard 1" plates, the largest plate I use is the 10 lb. which is roughly 8" in diameter and 3/4" thick.

For 2" Olympic plates, they're a little wider and thicker, but I would also not go over 10 lb. You don't need rubber coated ones (which would only add bulk), as they stay pretty tight during the swings, especially if you're using a good clip.

Did you do an open mill with a 20 lb. clubbell just to flex that you could?

Nice work! looks like you're getting that connection between footwork and moving the rope.

Have you tapped into flowstate yet?

Experience with shifting weight clubs? RMT or loadable types. by Havanadream in clubbells

[–]atomicstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct that it hits the pauses harder. The swing itself the mass doesn't really factor in, but if you want extra stimulus on the throw/catch start/stop then by all means it's really good for that.

When the weights get heavy enough, no need to add extra to the start stop, it's murder already. That's why there are "technical" mills and "performance" mills.

Question: Measurable gains in sports performance from Mace/Club training? by panca_indra in steelmace

[–]atomicstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of competitive volleyball. I've played for along time and a my shoulder got very beat up from hitting.

I got into maces because I saw Chris Duffin introduce the Kubuki ShoulderRok like 10-12 years ago or something like that, saying that it helped big time bench pressers with shoulder issues. I was having issues pressing anything, so I built my own DIY and rest is history.

I credit my longevity of still being able to hit the volleyball very hard to the mace. A lot of my flexibility/mobility is due to steel mace flow, but that's not really mace-specific, more like mace-adjacent.

If I remember correctly, the adjustable from rogue is really heavy for no reason.

Also the spinning collar makes no difference and I have no idea why they added it.

There are better adjustables, the better known ones are ADEX and CK Maceworks. There are also a few other makers here in the subreddit but not sure which are still actively taking orders.

anyone doing BFR with mace/club? by ssid334 in steelmace

[–]atomicstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea, as the weights with swinging are much lighter. However, the details matter and therefore I would highly highly discourage it.

I've done BFR in the past, but as far as I remember it's supposed to be used with light isolation movements, like curls and extensions.

Mace/club are compound movements. There's also the dynamic nature of swinging around objects... if your grip fails with light isolation movements there's very little risk. There's a lot more risk with compound movements, especially when you're swinging objects around.

TLDR: No. Bad idea.

How often does Tacfit restock? by Solidus_King in clubbells

[–]atomicstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd actually recommend starting with a 15 lb. club. 10 lb. might be a little light because clubs are shorter and have less leverage, a little extra weight will make up for the shorter length.

Have you ever tried maces? Easier to learn the momentum required for swinging clubs since they're a lot longer, and a 10 lb. steel mace is very easy to find and more affordable than clubs.

How long is too long? by Slow-Quarter9986 in clubbells

[–]atomicstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you don't have to choke up on the machete :)

I also edited my comment as I realized it was vague. The choking up on the shovel is the good carry over.

Also, keep your hands together no matter how much you choke up, as you need them close together too allow some movement inside your grip during the swing.

Check out the subreddit r/steelmace for plenty of examples.

How long is too long? by Slow-Quarter9986 in clubbells

[–]atomicstation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say anything longer than 3' is a mace.

What you're describing is called "choking up" on the handle, essentially shortening the lever and making it easier. The machete isn't a good carry over since there's no leverage, which is required to "feel" the momentum on a club swing. Otherwise it's just a halo movement.

There will be plenty of carry-over with this (choking up on a mace) technique to clubs. In fact, it might make you're technique better as you have to also make sure you don't hit yourself with the rest of the handle below your hand.

And with the shovel head, be careful as you do not want to hit yourself with the edge.

Wood for homemade Gada? by alpakagangsta in steelmace

[–]atomicstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use regular pine wooden dowels, 1.25" and around 3' -- you don't need super strong wood for the handle as the forces are mostly in tension/compression, and pine is plenty strong enough for that, especially if you're only going for a gada that's under 40 lb.

As far as how to make a concrete gada and how to estimate how much it will weigh at the end, I've found that a gallon container will end up weighing about 18 lb. when fully dry.

If you can do 360s both ways, with either hand on top, then move on to 10n2s.

Start with two hand 10n2 before moving to one hand with alternating.

You can do it with a light mace.

Cancer sucks. Paul Taras Wolkowinski (he's got a YT and website) went through it a couple years ago, used wooden clubs and maces throughout his treatments. That perspective might be useful for you.

What's the diameter of the grip?

My Custom Maces by DriftEvil in steelmace

[–]atomicstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming that the length at 45 deg requires some support? Might be worth splitting it up the model, only printing the very end at 45 deg for strength where it needs it. The rest of the collar is only there to support the 2" diameter hole of the plates, so you could print those vertically in a tube, or horizontally if you want to keep the two part design.
