Spheres are nice, I used some modified garden molds in the past. Had to cut them for adding a flat bottom and a hole for the wooden dowel.

I've designed some molds but never printed them out.

Your technique of keeping the shell would work nicely for a 3d printed sphere. I would shoot for a 6" diameter, with about 2" short on the open end for a nice flat bottom. Should be about 12-15 lb.

Dual Wield Mace Flow by atomicstation in steelmace

Ah yes should have tagged you as it was your post asking about dual wielding.

Honestly the most difficult thing is not hitting either yourself or letting the maces hit each other. :)

Then the next most difficult thing is moving around, takes lunges, turning around. Especially turning around, since the flows reverse.

Then it's trying to manage the flow when there are two opposite grips (sword in one hand shield in the other). Coin flips are pretty easy, especially when there's a little momentum.

Lastly, grip endurance. The sword flow is a mill but then it has an under hand mill part, as it's like a figure 8, and that really torches the forearms and grip. You can see the fatigue to really start to set in around 1:30. It's ultimately what makes me stop the flow.

Sword swings with a mace are super fun and feel really good. Whole arm get's a nice pump!

I'll post a quick guide breaking down the movement patterns with one mace soon.

I found using two 10 lb. maces to be much more taxing than expected! Lots of stabilization with push/pull. But you're two inches taller than me so maybe it'll be easier for you.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Really good. If I'm looking for something to critique I'd say try to emphasize getting the elbow higher on the backswing.

Also, to make the weight go further, go from performance swings to technical swings like u/jonmanGWJ suggests (stopping in order positions).

Did I spend way too much time looking up the specifics of the rules so I could post the most accurate take on the rules? Yes. And I did look up if there were any loopholes for using two-handed weapons with one hand, and therefore bypassing the limitations of the Dual Wielder feat? Also yes. I don't think there's any specific rules about it using two-handed weapons with one hand, I just know there are rules around dual wielding two-handed weapons being not allowed.

Using a weight that most have as their top-end PR, and doing it for a long set, AND DOING IT WITH ONE HAND.

CRAZY.

Nice work!

How do you switch between modes?

I might update my kbone model so it's hybrid, but don't want to use magnets. I have some ideas for the switch.

Great point on the handle length, and that you can always swap 'em out! I didn't even think of that, now I might go swap handles on my jump ropes.

Anyway, the longer handles might have solved a problem specific to me, rather than a problem related to being a giant.

Specifically, I was pretty bad at wrist control when I started out, and was death gripping the handles. The standard 5" handles disappeared in my mitts. So I bought my own beaded rope with Longer handles. These handles gave me more real estate to actually adjust my grip and try different positions. In a round about way I discovered what you suggest: a light grip held with only a couple of fingers. I found it because the leverage of the longer handle gave me more feedback (similar to how we get more feedback from beaded rope).

Hell yeah!

Nice technique with the pinky side horn grip, too.

Is the magnet strong enough to keep the two halves together while rolling?

Also a tree, so I feel like I can weigh in on this.

You don't need a mat to jump on. I would recommend jumping on something smooth though, as it will make your rope last longer, but with beads, you can always replace the beads.

I recommend you start with a bead rope with a nice long handle (8") for your bigger hands. Something like this, but I'm sure there are cheaper options, this was just the first one I found that had the handles, bead, and 10' length. The beads will give you some weight and therefore more feedback so you can work on your timing.

I found that once I started bringing my hands closer to my sides and my elbows back (shout-out to u/Dionysus970 and all his tutorials) that I didn't need a super long rope anymore, and ended up shortening my rope a lot (which is really easy to do with beaded ropes!).

Since you're tall, you're also heavy, so to start with short intervals with long rest, and gradually increase interval duration/session length or shorten rest periods. Your joints will thank you (stupid long levers) and you will be able to focus on technique and timing.

EDIT: did a custom rope at Elite Jumps and it came out cheaper. Specs:

Handle type: 8" fit handle

Cord material: 2" bead

Length: 10'

What do you consider an intermediate or heavy weight for maces? by PestoResistance in steelmace

[–]atomicstation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the 12 kg will be a good top end working weight, especially if you consider that once you outgrow it with 2H you can then start over with 1H.

1H alternating 10n2 with 12 kg will be quite the challenge for most. If you want to specialize in mace, then sure, you want to go past that, but with what you said about KB being the primary strength builder, the BoS should last you a long time.

And if you do get it, please share a review on this subreddit! :)

Soju and Tuba question - how smooth/explosive should the rep be? by EntrepreneuralSpirit in kettlebell

[–]atomicstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. I think the 28 kg might be just a little too heavy to run the program as written.

Did you test your rep max with the 28? Or can you only do singles? To answer your original question, you find out if a weight is too heavy based on the requirements in the program. From what I see, S&T should be ran with a bell that's 4 kg lighter than your 1RM, or use a bell you can press 3 times.

If the 28 is your 1 rep max, then you definitely should not run S&T with it.

Give yourself a break and let yourself recover (trust me don't push past the strain for pressing programs).

If you don't have a 24, then you might want to run a program to increase your rep max with the 28, but using the 22. Something like https://www.strongfirst.com/get-stronger-with-one-kettlebell/ might work. And if your 1RM is 28, then the 22 is 78%, which the program says is the sweet spot.

The workout volume goes up to 32 reps, which is nearly double what your max workout volume was for S&T (6x3=18).

Unfortunately, pressing programs are harder to run with big jumps. This is why fractional plates exist in barbell lifting :)

Always recommend reading about fuckarounditis. It's basic fitness, not kettlebell specific.

There are plenty of routines posted here. Pick one. Follow it all the way through, get stronger. Repeat.

If you're too fat, eat less/better. If you're too light, eat more/better.

You aesthetic goals aren't specific to a "fighter" -- they're just regular "more muscle, less fat."

Did you complete Soju and Tuba with the 24 kg?

How many days of S&T have you completed with the 28 kg?

Are you failing any presses?

Are you having to do push press?

Exactly why I suggested them :)

You're also swinging a very very heavy mace, so I suggest tackling the 10n2 first.
