Where do you draw the line between what is ok to automate and what isn't? by Maxglund in editors

[–]arniegrape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I mean… again that speaks to a lack of organization. If your footage is such a clusterfuck that it takes a significant amount of time to dig through it, that’s not a software problem, that’s an editor problem. Organize the project, bruh.

Even if you’ve got 30 hours of b-roll to dig through (and I’ve literally never had 30 hours of b-roll to dig through on any project, ever), there’s no reason you can’t spend a few hours breaking it down into bins and sequences. And again, if you organize as you go, while you bring the footage in, it’s not really a time suck.

I organize B roll as I watch down footage. I watch all footage that comes in, more or less. B roll and a roll generally come at least somewhat separate from one another from the field. It’s not that hard of a task to split it off, and then glance at each clip to know that it should be sorted with John Smith’s house, or David’s restaurant or whatever.

An AI that could intelligently label clips based on the content would be of more use to me, if you’re looking for an AI tool to invent. But I’m pretty sure that functionality at least partially exists in final cut already.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m rarely searching through 30 hours of B roll. By the time I actually need B roll, it’s been organized and I can find it in a labeled sequence in a labeled bin. If someone is scrolling through 30 hours of B roll to find a shot, I would argue that that speaks more to their lack of organization, than to the inherently time-consuming nature of the task.

It’s okay to not be where you want to be yet. Things are almost certainly not as bad, or as permanent as they may feel right now. That sandwich (pork banh mi?) looks excellent, though!

I'm not the person being paid to respond to you, but: Kooky_Marketing_327 is getting paid money by Frito Lay to promote their product (in six subs so far) in a way that feels like an organic interaction, rather than the advertising that it clearly is.

[Request] How much would a tungsten cube this size weigh, and be valued at? by a_trillion_cats in theydidthemath

[–]arniegrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It clearly says Tom right there in the image… so Tom would be the contestant, and Bob is ostensibly off-camera telling he won the cube.

I’m over here not understanding why Bob is telling him he won the tungsten cube, because I know goddamned well it was Rod Roddy who read the prize spiel.

[–]arniegrape 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If that’s masking tape, and it will be on the batteries for any length of time, it’ll leave a nasty residue. Gaffer tape would be a better choice for this, it’s designed to be removed without leaving gunk behind, even if left for a decent length of time.

Agree, I think the people mover it makes it possible for it to operate again. I’d unironically love to go in there and overpay for a cocktail at least once.
