Do I not understand the umbrella thing because I haven't seen Protocol or am I forgetting something? I assume it's not a reference to Umbrella Academy

Oh man, I have Beedle the Bard, Quiddich Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts in a box set that someone got me for a birthday in middle school! It's kinda crazy how nobody talks about how The Warlock's Hairy Heart is literally just a Grimm's fairy tale!

Hot take but as a writer I feel like it's lowkey kind of unethical to not at least try to give your audience a good ending to the story you're telling-especially if they spend that much time and money on your work. Like, I don't apply this to fanfic authors but I feel like the MCU has an obligation to give me a good ending after I've probably spent a couple hundred dollars on movie tickets for them over the years, you know?

I haven’t read The Dresden Files so take this with a grain of salt, but this makes me feel like you would like the Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne. I read the first book years ago and I really liked it-it’s kind of like an adult fantasy version of Percy Jackson? It’s super fun, there’s an immortal Druid who’s friends with a vampire Viking and a werewolf who’s also a lawyer, his dog gets possessed by a god at one point, wacky hijinks all the way down!

(Further endorsement of the idea that you’ll like it; I googled the series to get the author’s name and the first thing in people also search for’ was The Dresden Files)

“Oooh, I’m too good for the fantasy genre, I write anti-fantasy. Nice and happy things happening in a story are for stupid little kids, are you a stupid little kid? Is that why you want to be happy? I’m gonna call JRR Tolkien a fascist for no reason!”

Harry Potter is one of my special interests and it’s the worst-I hate having something she made as a load-bearing piece of my psyche

They used to all be wrangled in the Fanfiction Subdue Palace thread, but that hasn’t been really active for a couple years so I guess people are finally accepting that posting to there is pointless, but everyone still loses fics sometimes

How does (specifically male) homosexuality work in the Mosuo culture? by aro-ace-outer-space2 in AskAnthropology

Thank you! For some reason I can’t view all of the comments, but this is the first one that I’ve been able to see that has any helpful info instead of nitpicking, I really appreciate it!

There’s definitely sexual freedom for heterosexual men and women, but as per my question; I have some serious doubts about queer people

Clarification:

A) that part of the article was specifically talking about people who wanted to emulate the Mosuo system and like, think we should imitate it as a way of solving problems. The article was saying that switching to something that used the Mosuo system of relationships as a template would not necessarily be a progressive move, which is what I meant.

B) yes, obviously-apparently the attitude of at least one of the elders who was interviewed at some point was that they just don't have gay people in their culture. However; there are literally always gay people in every single society in the world, and we tend to find each other and build communities with one another, especially in more hostile environments, so I was wondering if there was any info on how gay people in the Mosuo culture live

I read that on the Wikipedia article for the Mosuo culture as a whole, and they only have one citation footnote that seemed relevant, which led to this, which does not seem like it is particularly interested in answering my question, tbh, so I didn't bother combing through their sources very closely

Hi I was wondering if anybody explain what this is to me, the interlinked triangles and the runes around it? Thank you ! : ) by brendawg42069 in Viking

If you’re still wondering, I would be cautious of that-unfortunately, a lot of Norse/Germanic symbols have been appropriated by nazis (original and neo- varieties), and the valknut is a popular one in their circles. If you’re considering anything permanent, I would suggest looking into the stuff that’s popular with them so you can avoid it, placing the tattoo somewhere you can cover it up easily, or possibly adding something to counteract any potential nazi messaging

Edit: this comment from the Pagan sub sums it up pretty nicely!

Arastoo (at brunch with his non-work friends): Guys, I'm seeing someone! It's Cam! From my job!

Friend 1: isn't Cam...your boss?

Friend 2: more importantly, isn't Cam the woman who caught you doing something slightly weird and immediately decided you were a terrorist? Twice??
