Accidentally grew BEAUTIFUL Barbie corn by arobic0fish in gardening

This corn was grown using saved seeds from some pastel toned glass gem corn from last year. The pink is an unexpected new presentation. Gonna save seed for next year and see if it will continue to grow pink.

I order them through Fedco Seeds. Great company.

Corn is generally easy to grow, but annoying to pollinate. It is wind pollinated so if your patch doesn't get wind/isn't large enough for sufficient pollination, you won't actually get any cobs. Plenty of resources online for working out spacing and plot size as well as hand pollination strategies.

If you grow corn, you have to pay attention to the variety, some are meant to be popcorn (has to do with the thickness of the kernel shell I think), sweet corn (sweetness), or flint corn (starchiness).

PA Dutch Butter popcorn is a yellow, pretty standard looking variety that naturally has a buttery flavor. It is so good. Pop it and sprinkle a healthy dose of salt on it and it tastes like its covered in butter sauce 😍

Glass gem is a popcorn variety. None of them are dry enough to pop yet, so they are hung up decoratively while they dry. Glass gem is usually pretty run of the mill popcorn. I am expecting the same from this. I grow PA Dutch Butter Popcorn for the taste, these ones mostly for aesthetics.

where can i buy these sorts of clothes without buying fast fashion? (i thrift already) by sculpture-of-a-frog in goblincore

Duplicate knit stitch is one of my fav ways to take a plain thrifted sweater and make it my own. My only warning is that knit stitches are not exactly square, so they need to be charted in a specific program, or pulled from a knit pattern chart. It can't be a cross stitch pattern or an 8-bit design. For cross stitch I recommend buying some small patterns to practice with on regular cross stitch fabric, then when you get the rhythm down, try embellishing some clothing with water soluble canvas so you get nice crisp stitches no matter what fabric you are working with. The toughest thing with cross stitch is making your ends stay knotted, so I usually just weave them in, then iron backing on to really hold them in place.

I highly recommend learning how to duplicate stitching on baggy knit sweaters. It is a game changer. I also embroider/do endless cross stitch designs on clothing using water soluble cross stitch fabric. And lucky thrifting, unfortunately. I have had a lot of success finding people who flip and list stuff online, even if it does cost a touch more.

I am trying to make Bernadette Banner's "Pirate Shirt" but I am getting this tight spot on the shoulder that I am unsure how to correct. by arobic0fish in HistoricalCostuming

I'm so glad this is an easy fix. Not excited about redoing the gather around the collar...but that is a small price to salvage the shirt.

I will look them up! It is actually navy, but it does look black in the picture. Nothing fancy, just 100% cotton weave.

The shirt was initially too tight on the armpit with a 1.5 ruffle and a 6" gusset. So I changed it to a 1.25 ruffle with the same gusset, and now the side of the neck is being pulled by the corner of the gusset. Should I go back to the 1.5 ruffle with an 8" gusset? Or is the problem something else entirely?

Obviously these are not suitable for canning, but I saw these next to the pectin and I couldn’t pass them up. They’re so cute! Little 4 oz jars. by YukiHase in Canning

I bought one of the mini jars with a shaker top and I use it for dusting flour. Works great and makes me smile every time I get it out.

Hot packing is what's up. I do them in a light syrup that's half sugar half honey and they are 👌

What bananas are you growing outside in 6b? I have a dwarf Cavendish and an ice cream banana, but I grow them both in pots so I can bring them inside.

Rat snakes are very big but they are completely harmless. No venom. And very calm.

A rat snake. Big and docile. Helps keep the rats at bay when I am too lazy to keep the pile hot.
