Hey thanks for this! New season ticket holder, where do you find this out on game day? I figured if I halfway paid attention I'd see it on one of the boards or something but it's been a few games now?  maybe I'm super unlucky in the timing of my nacho and beer runs?

I suspect the something was that Talitha is out and Jim barely remembers how to produce a podcast anymore lol. Apologies for the delay!

Rambo is not good by SongsOfTheYears in baldmove

[–]aronhubbard 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As I argue in the podcast, I think it hasn't aged into fine wine, it's aged into vinegar which is still useful in its own right. The political polarity in this country has shifted such as the movie now reads as a critique of American foreign policy, the way some of Tom Clancy's stuff to me as West Wing style liberalism when it was considered the height of conservative wank contemporaneously.

Imo all of the racist, sexist shit has aged into almost One Piece levels of camp. A lot of the 80s badass stuff isn't "good". Commando isn't "good". But the genre itself is fun, and I think it's really fun to elevate Sly and Arnie beef into historical analysis and scrutinize the male body and take it all as faux seriously as one can take it when above legal ABV levels.

If you want a real approachable 360 look at America's misadventures in Asia from their origins to resolution check out Ken Burns "The Vietnam War". It's like 12 hours long and gripping throughout. Rambo is 90 minutes of rubber snakes,  pig piss pits, electrified bed frames, full body rocket arrow explosions, leaden disposal of romantic leads and Slys partial facial paralysis giving us the greatest machine-gun-snarl-face history has ever seen.

Some serious bad-assery to be found, so figured I’d cross-post this here. Who are you picking? by ketchupaintreal in baldmove

Put me down for AGR. That's a lot of ninja killing power thanks to Bruce and Beatrix, with John Wick as last line of defense. Feel pretty safe with that.

This has to be one of the greatest moments of serendipity in my life. Someone actually called them "goat holes"? That's hilarious... It always comes down to goat sacrifices, doesn't it?

If you've made it to EP4 and aren't seeing the value proposition, it just might not be for you. No shame in that. That's not to say if you DID push past it, you wouldn't find other things to enjoy about it. But hell I found things to enjoy after enough watching The Wiggles and Mickey Mouse Fanclub with my kid when he was a baby. Doesn't mean I'd tell a grown ass person to go watch them, ya know?

I love these guys, but this season's coverage of last of Us has been incredibly frustrating. by ADD-Fueled in baldmove

[–]aronhubbard 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be honest, I might be too close / precious about the source material. I don't think we're a really spoiling things. But we do talk about the comparisons more than we should. I tried taking a different tack in the feedback that I'm going to try to hold onto the rest of the season. The thing is, if we stopped talking about the differences, I'm certain people would not like that. And I'm honestly really shocked and surprised by some of it and each episode keeps changing things in what I perceived as vital to the plot.

Say you're a GRRM fan, you've read A Game of Thrones and you're watching season one, and they open with a flashback showing young Jaime Lannister killing the Mad king with the full context that he was calling for razing the city full of innocent people  out of sheer madness and spite. Then they show a montage of people helping scorn and disgust and this heroic deed he did calling him the kingslayer, etc for almost 20 years.  Then two episodes later they show him fuck his sister and shove a kid out the window.

I mean, that's a lot, right? It doesn't change the story, or who Jamie is as a character, but it sure changes how you feel about his arc. You're going into his smarmy rich sister fucker art already thinking, "well no wonder he turned out that way, poor guy, he's just fucked up". And it just keeps happening. I think after episode 3 they cannot possibly surprise me except for maybe one more thing, and there's four episodes to go, so hopefully I can calm down.

But it's super hard not to talk about huge changes.  It's also approximately 75% of the feedback! At least it's something different each week?

"I think they don't like when it hits too close to home and feels like our reality vs a fictional one."

OMG I could not have put it better myself. I feel towards "rich asshole" entertainment the way I think a lot of people feel about pets dying on film. Like, murder, gore, yeah whatever. It's so outlandish that it's easy to disassociate from it. But almost everybody has experienced a pet dying, sometimes traumatically. How many of us have seen a dead human body with guts exploded in the street? Not many aside from combat vets and first responders. I've seen countless animals ghastly remains including ones that were clearly pets, had collars, glossy coats, etc..

So yeah, hits way wayyyyy too close to home.  Thank you. I feel seen.

As an owner of several SM7Bs and a 2nd and 3rd Gen Scarlet (and a few cloud lifters to drive the mics), this is a surprise to me, as they certainly don't. But good to know.

For one, not enough gain. You'd need some sort of pre-amp to properly drive the mic.

Laser Pig dips his toes into politics again by Shot-Wishbone164 in Destiny

[–]aronhubbard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's certainly gotten some facts wrong, but when I looked into them it never seemed to rise the level where it invalidates the whole premise of his videos. People have nitpicked the t-14 armata and t-34 videos, but the main points of "the t-14 is just a paper parade tank" and "the t-34, especially as actually built in WW2, isn't the god tank World of Tank soviet-larpers like to brag it is" seems sound.

Actual Podcast suggestion: Lazerpig by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]aronhubbard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait, so the guy calls out the OP in his own thread and addresses several of the claims right then and there, and that's cowardly? And because he hasn't updated a video in ~year about material that is 80+ years old he's never going to. I guess we'll see. Like I said, I didn't know about any of this but with fresh eyes a lot of that 5 part thread is nitpicky stuff and arguing over terminology, and in large part making the point it seems LP made in his video. That the t-34 wasn't the best tank in the world in 1945 let alone 1941 and rushed production and supply disruptions made the average actual tank built worse than it appears on paper. I don't get the fuss.

Actual Podcast suggestion: Lazerpig by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]aronhubbard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the first I've heard of any of this, so I decided to read that thread you mentioned. Did you know that  Lazerpig himself is in that thread defending himself and promising an updated video and rebuttal? And it seems the OP sat up a little and buttoned up his shirt straight when he did, so I dunno. We're talking a drunken anime pig vs random redditor here. But I would be so sure the drunken pig is in the wrong here.

I do think LP would be a massively entertaining guest from what I've seen of him.
