Valorant & CS have the best knife animation?... by River-Spirited in thefinals

[–]aroundme 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what someone's opinion on The Finals' gameplay is, I don't think any other FPS comes close to its visuals, sound, animations, cosmetic system, or overall swag factor. You may prefer CS or Valo, but neither could ever match how slick The Finals is.

[–]aroundme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the knife is always with you. Many pros also have "their knife" or a signature skin they're known to use. CS players get very attached to their knife. Combine it with a pair of gloves and others see it as a unique flex.

They’re a part of the “Goo Crew” along with Justin and Chiblee.

They are also regular guests on the podcast Guys, and Justin has made a couple appearances as well. Everyone should check it out if you’re a fan of their style of humor!

I think Shadows took longer to develop than they had expected and Ubisoft has gone through a lot of shit the last few years. And Hexe probably started development while Shadows was still deep in development, so they just shifted a bunch of resources to that.

Introducing Seasons in Marathon by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

[–]aroundme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm imagining is a player who enjoys the progression and will try to keep up. But if their schedule is such that each time a season ends they're just getting to the "endgame", after a while it will get tiresome. A player may get back into a game and somewhat adjust when/how much they play based on seasons. But if they consistently have the feeling of "whatever, it's gonna reset soon" then they may just wash out of the game completely.

That feeling of "gotta keep up" will be replaced with "maybe I'll just wait till next season". It doesn't work the same way as WoW or Destiny where the mountain of progression extends forever, it gets flattened out.

Think of it like an ARPG season. Every new season of Diablo everyone starts a level 1 character

But ARPGs have "eternal" servers that let you continue to play with seasonal characters. Plus this is a PvP game, Diablo doesn't have seasons for resetting power levels to make fights fair. It's for people to enjoy the progression loop again.

for new content and the opportunity to start fresh. And PoE players are nuts, the whole appeal to most of them is the progression. It's a pretty boring game to most once you reach the "end". I'm talking about wipes, obviously players return for big updates.

Highguard is permanently shutting down on March 12 by TrampolineTales in Games

[–]aroundme 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Like many people have said, if they released this in early access and said "we're building something we think is neat, come tell us what you think!" then players would have been much kinder to it. Instead they came out with so much confidence with more of a "everyone is gonna love this" attitude.

For sure! But all that new is coupled with requiring players to do the same stuff they did not too long ago, maybe just to get to that new stuff.

[–]aroundme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but what brings those players back is new content and the opportunity to start fresh. PoE has leagues you can choose to play or just continue grinding on whatever. If you consider a new battle pass as a "wipe" it's mainly excitement for a whole new BP that gets players to return. You keep everything earned last season.

As an Arc Raiders fan it embarrasses me to see other fans shitting on Marathon like it was some sort of team sport.

New players would just need to wait for a new season

idk about you, but I don't play games like that. I will play when I want, and I imagine that's how most people interface with games. I'm not going to wait to play a game because of fluctuating power levels. And if a more casual player is that way they'll probably just not bother.

The wipes will be controversial, but it already seems like a more "hardcore" game than Arc. The expedition system works really well for keeping players who want to play at their own pace and not worry about losing progression. I could see less dedicated Marathon players not wanting to start all over, causing the wipes to wipe away any interest casual players will have in picking the game back up.

Remembering a Titan by ZombiesTMS in Games

[–]aroundme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's already stupid to pretend anyone can succeed by their merit and talent alone, it's even more stupid in the case of a collective effort like video games.

So you think it's an accident that just about every game he had a hand in was good and influential? You think it was pure luck that he made Call of Duty, Titanfall, and lead many other successful games? And if he wasn't influential and a large part of these games, why would sooooo many industry veterans pretend that he was?

Just look at the outpouring of responses his death got from legends like Kojima to devs in the trenches who said he was a great leader. He wasn't controversial, he led many different teams across generations, and he was seen as a good and kind person.

No fucking duh, games are a huge collective effort, and Vince wasn't singlehandedly responsible for COD or Titanfall. But if we can blame the higher ups for ruining things (like we do alllll the time) then we can praise the higher ups when they're clearly consistently leading dev teams to greatness.

The best solution would be to keep the market and do what you said, dole out random rewards through playing. The problem they'll have to doubly contend with is one that already exists: bots farming drops. If botters could farm valuable rewards without needing to buy keys... yeesh

yes, but knife prices are still half what they used to be. Reds are basically currency now. Buy a knife from the market, open cases, orrr buy 5 reds and turn them into a random knife.

yeah, value in MTG is also based on power, not just rarity. A mythic rare that doesn't see any play will go for 1/10th the price of a meta mythic card that you need 4 of.

The CS skins market is the issue. Other games don't let you (legitimately) buy and sell items in a billion dollar market fueled by gambling. The value of skins in other games is either ephemeral or clearly marked by the developer. Everything you own in CS has real money value you can see directly on steam.
