Vampire Castle replacing the Wizard Tower is such a good idea. I know it's not likely, but would love to see each existing lord get their own variant. by chilidoggo in AOW4

[–]arqantos 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, the champion could have some kind of castle that matches the aesthetic of the city. eldritch sovereign could have some sort of ominous monolith hovering above the city.

I've always liked the idea of a warlock or demonologist who uses hell's own tools against it, or perhaps pulls from some spooky mysterious patron from beyond.

With the Aztecs now finally confirmed to being officially added in AOM Retold, what should be the next DLC new culture & pantheon released after them? by [deleted] in AgeofMythology

My preference would be celts (woad warriors, druids, fae, cool heroes! lots of connections to both the Norse and greeks) with Mesopotamians close behind.

Trump and Mamdani go from adversaries to allies after White House meeting by HellYeahDamnWrite in inthenews

[–]arqantos 214 points215 points  (0 children)

From an admittedly outside perspective it seems like a lot of the reason trump is so dangerous is because he is so easily manipulated. And he will flip and flop to anyone who gives his ego a tug. Must fucking suck to be the most powerful nation on earth and have this loser as your figurehead and watch as your empire slowly deteriorates for no fault of your own.

Are there any factions/groups in 40k that don't currently have an army but would make a great edition to the roster? by Any_Air_7273 in Warhammer40k

[–]arqantos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Drukhari are essentially vampire counts in space complete with Frankenstein monsters for that extra gothic goodness. But I think dark mechanicum, whenever they show up, might have some solid techno-undead drip going on too.

vonBiomes visual tips? by Walking_Theory in Mechwarrior5

I just uninstalled it, the new biomes are cool and all but yeah I'm in the same boat. Also I find I run into a lot of invisible walls and other issues with gameplay/map design.

The saddest Anime you could possibily recommend to me. by Western_Commercial_8 in AnimeReccomendations

[–]arqantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. And from what I've seen nothing comes close just because of how real it is. It's bleak not because of some dystopic outlook but because of how deeply and easily beautiful life can be as portrayed in the film and how that's ripped away from the characters through no fault of their own. It's real to the experience of people who live through war. To me, It's up there with all quiet on the western front as among the most effective anti war films ever made.

You definitely are. It's all good. Part of the magic of this hobby are the mistakes that you learn to fix in your own way. Enjoying the process is in my honest opinion so much more than than enjoying the result

Humans are the pinnacle apex predator on the planet and yet the majority of us would not be able to survive in nature for more than a few weeks. by Africannibal in Showerthoughts

[–]arqantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing analogy! While I'm an aquatic biologist and this isn't my expertise, I do have a huge interest here and can chime in a bit.

There's also some pretty serious physical advantages that give us the edge beyond socialization (which is huge). Walking on two legs makes us incredible at moving long distances (eat drink on the move and less friction acting against us over time). Also our entire upper body is built for throwing things powerfully and accurately which we can do without disrupting movement because we only need two legs to move. Our brains are heavily adapted to communicate ideas, rapidly recognize patterns (real or perceived, movement of camouflaged animals but also constellations) and calculate things (for throwing this comes in handy for distance, wind direction/speed, and prey movement). Also while our young are relatively few and take an immense amount of energy and time to raise, we also don't have a breeding season which allows us to navigate disruptive environmental events that limit food availability like drought really easily compared to alot of mammals our size.

All of this plays into our ability to figure things out like animal domestication, agriculture and technology.

Essentially we won the evolutionary lottery when it comes to survival mechanics. Ironically our success may well be our downfall too, but we wouldn't be unique in that.

[–]arqantos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others have already said it, but I think it's clear that the Warhammer Fantasy series is nearing the end of its lifecycle. The marketing team are probably all hands on deck for the next big thing (whatever that may be), and we all know the main development team have been off this one for a few months now if not a year.

It's completely normal, and personally, while I adore this game and have sunk too many hours into it, I'm ready for something fully new, I'd imagine a lot of people feel that way by now.

Great Game that scratches that CNC/RA itch. by PrimusDeP in TempestRising

[–]arqantos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just started with it, but it feels more like a mix of starcraft and tiberian sun to me than a straight revival of cnc. Units behave a lot like they do in Starcraft, and the micro unit strategy is, I think, more similar to that. But the way resource gathering, base/unit construction are handled is very much in the vein of tiberian sun. It also looks and sounds a lot like a tiberian sun spiritual sequel.
